Lana My life is built on survival and lies. Danger has always welcomed me with open arms, And I like to play by my own rules. Doing odd jobs and making myself unseen was my plan. One with the shadows. Invisible. A nobody. Until he comes along and takes a vow of corruption, And I might let him. Even if that means I must put my plan in jeopardy.
M I am the monster people whisper about. I kill people for a living, And I am the epitome of stealth. But the moment my eyes land on her, It’s game over. I want to chase her. Own her. Ruin her. But then my little hummingbird finds herself in danger. And I swear to destroy anyone who dares to harm what’s mine.
Going into this book, I already had a feeling I was going to enjoy it, especially since this isn’t my first time reading A.H. Monroe & it is dark romance! Still, I didn’t expect to get this hooked this quickly, what a ride this was!
The writing style immediately felt like coming home. I was at ease straight away & eased into the story like it was nothing, which made it incredibly easy to get immersed from the very beginning.
It was so exciting to watch the dynamic between M. & Lana evolve throughout the story. It took Lana some time to warm up to M., but once she saw more of him & who he truly is, she couldn’t seem to resist any longer. I also really loved how she challenged him. He seems prepared for everything, but when it comes to Lana, he actually has to step up his game from time to time, which honestly only seems to draw him in even more. Their chemistry builds in such a natural yet intense way, making every interaction between them intensely charged.
There were quite a few themes woven into the story, but self-discovery & healing from the past stood out the most to me. The self-discovery aspect really comes forward in the way the characters are forced to confront parts of themselves they’ve been avoiding, even when it adds discomfort to their lives. The healing becomes more & more visible as the story progresses, but especially toward the ending, where it’s clear that Lana still has a lot to process — something that becomes even apparent with the major cliffhanger leading into the sequel
M. will never cease to amaze me. As someone who’s read A.H. Monroe before, I already had a sense of his character from the previous books, but he still managed to surprise me. He slowly starts to open up more & more, especially toward Lana. Honestly, it's breathtaking to read about a man who would do anything for the woman he truly loves, even if it's frightening at first. He has easily become my favourite MMC in this universe.
The pacing kept me hooked at all times. I never felt bored or disconnected from the story. This was just one of those books I could keep on reading without ever wanting to put it down. As for the spice… it’s on another level entirely! Especially in the beginning, it feels like M. doesn’t really know how to express his emotions in any other way than through physical intimacy (or even violence), which adds an interesting layer to his character. The spice itself is intense & detailed in a way you don’t often see & I devoured every single moment of it. It definitely enhanced the emotional connection between M. & Lana for me. Imagining this level of intimacy has completely ruined me & I fear I might never recover…
All in all, this book completely pulled me in & didn’t let me go. But that ending… I was absolutely NOT prepared for it! It didn’t feel like a conclusion at all, but rather like a setup for something even bigger. I need the second part ASAP, because I'm not okay after this!
This book has a perfect mix of dark romance, murder mystery, and psychological twists and turns that will keep you asking yourself “what just happened?! 😳✌️”
I really enjoyed the mind bending psychological murder mystery of this story. I had predicted some things throughout but not until over halfway through the story. I wish I could say I predicted it sooner. The book ends on a wild cliffhanger that will keep you asking questions well after you’re finished.
I don’t want to say too much about the characters because I feel like I would spoil some major plot points. I will say the steamy scenes were 🥵 5/5 🌶️
DNF at 36%. And I skipped through about half of that.
Sorry, I had to. There was nothing specific that caused me to DNF. No triggers or nothing of the content caused this. I just could not get into it. I think the writing style was just not for me. A lot of things were just not explained and seemed completely random (and not in the way that you think they might be explained down the road).
I am glad other people seem to be enjoying it/have enjoyed it. I saw a review here that this book might be good for someone just getting into dark romance and I think I agree with that.
Either way, thank you to A.H. Monroe and Love Notes PR for the early e-copy to read and review.
Thank you to Love Notes PR for the ARC. This is my honest, voluntary review.
The Quiet Pull You Don’t See Coming
‘Hum for Me’ by A.H. Monroe doesn’t try to sweep you away from the very first page. Instead, it lingers at the edges, slowly drawing you in until you realize you’ve stopped resisting it altogether.
What makes this story stand out is the emotional restraint woven into every interaction. The characters don’t fully reveal themselves, not to each other and not to the reader. There’s a constant sense that something remains unspoken, and that silence carries just as much weight as the words they do share. It creates a quiet tension that settles deep, almost unnoticed at first, but impossible to ignore once it’s there.
The connection between them isn’t instant or overwhelming. It builds in small, fragile moments. A look that lasts a second too long. A hesitation that says more than any confession ever could. And because of that, it feels real. Almost too real at times, as if you are witnessing something that isn’t meant to be fully understood, only felt.
The pacing leans into that softness. It gives the emotions space to unfold naturally, though there are moments where a slightly tighter rhythm could have strengthened the pull. Still, the slow build works in favor of the story’s atmosphere, allowing that underlying tension to grow steadily beneath the surface.
What lingers most isn’t a dramatic climax or a single defining moment. It’s the feeling that stays behind. Quiet, persistent, and impossible to fully shake. Like something unfinished that keeps returning when you least expect it.
A story that doesn’t reach for you… but somehow never lets you go.
Forbidden feelings | Emotional slow burn | Complicated pasts | Vulnerability | Healing through love | Morally black MMC | Touch her and die | Revenge | Damsel in distress | Stalking
DNF @ 35% I’ve been meaning to get into more dark romance and was so excited I was accepted for an ARC. Unfortunately it just wasn’t for me. The book opened up with everything already being established (M is a stalker and is already obsessed with Lana. Lana already knows she has a stalker and is very comfortable having him lurk in the shadows). Because of this, their relationship develops really fast and it feels like I’m missing the growth of their connection. There’s a lot of repetition, including rewording what was said in the previous sentence back to back, so I felt like it was going around in circles. I wish I could’ve pushed through, but thank you Love Notes PR for sending me an early copy for an honest review.
“Lana, you made my heart beat again, and I’ll be damned if anybody tries to take that away from me.”
Review:
Thank you to Love Notes PR for the opportunity to ARC read this book.
I’m really sorry, but this book wasn’t it for me. It was a really slow start for me, and the dialogue was really cringe. I think the intent behind M was for him to truly be psychotic? But there was a lot of things just thrown into the “character pot” to make a psycho concoction and it under delivered.
Lana left no impression on me whatsoever and I just had a difficult time connecting to the characters and the story.
Descriptions were horrendously repetitive. And overall, the story just fell flat.
It started with so much potential, and I definitely enjoyed the reading experience. However, I wish it had been more of a slow burn. I feel like I would have enjoyed the tension between the characters much more if it had developed gradually.
I would have loved to see Lana put up more resistance, especially during the gym parking lot scene while she was on the phone but I’m not sure… the relationship just felt too fast. I understand his intense love for her, but I wish we could have seen more of how he actually met her and how his obsession with her developed.
The writing itself has a lot of potential and was really good overall, but there were many moments where I personally wanted more tension and a slower build.
That said, I’m giving this book 3 stars ⭐️ It was a very easy read, and I did enjoy the spicy moments 🔥just wish there had been more slow burn.
“Hum For Me” sounded like it had everything I’d love, but completely missed the mark for me. One of my biggest issues was the relationship between the MC’s, there’s basically no buildup, it just jumps straight into insta-love which made it hard to believe or care about. Lana and M both felt too underdeveloped to even carry the story. On top of that, there were a bunch of side characters added in just to fill space it seemed like, which made the story feel cluttered and unfocused. The pacing felt rushed, the writing didn’t pull me in and a lot of it felt repetitive and confusing. The cliffhanger ending wasn’t exciting and was quite predictable for me. Overall, this felt like a drag to read and left me feeling more annoyed than anything, and I won’t be continuing their series.
I found the beginning of this story really engaging, and it immediately drew me in with a strong setup. By the end, I also enjoyed the direction the plot took and how everything came together.
However, I personally struggled to connect with the central relationship. The chemistry between the main characters felt a bit underdeveloped, which made it harder for me to become fully invested in their journey. There were also some moments and conversations that felt slightly awkward or not entirely believable.
At times, the pacing felt uneven, with certain scenes coming across as unnecessary. I also didn’t feel very invested in the side characters.
That said, this is just my personal reading experience, and I’m sure others may connect with it differently.
Thank you to A.H. Monroe and Love Notes PR for providing me with an ARC 🖤 All opinions are my own.
I want to thank the author and the publisher for sending me this ARC read.
Ok about the book. It started off really strong and the plot was really promising. However I think the author got too caught up in trying to add so much for shock value. There were so many little tiny subplots that did tie into the main plot but they just weren’t blended together very well. The book does end on a cliffhanger and I think it would be more shocking if it was more cohesive but I was able to guess the plot twist very early on. That being said I am going to give the second book a chance when it comes out and see if the author improves any.
I received an ARC copy of Hum For Me, but could not get past the first few chapters.
I found the dialogue really unnatural between the MMC and his first victim. The victim who was being tortured was not even described as screaming or giving any sign he was in pain. I felt the description was very vague and confusing, which made it harder to understand what was going on.
The events in the first chapters felt very blocky and wooden, making it hard to enjoy the events unfolding. There were also lots of formatting and grammatical errors in the book I received, which distracted me from what I was reading.
The book reminded me somewhat of Haunting Adeline and the character felt heavily inspired by Zade Meadows. Sorry to say I could read any more of this book, which is a shame because I liked the idea for it and was very excited about it when I signed up.
NOW THAT WAS FREAKING EVIL! There are no words that can describe that UTTERLY DEVASTATING AND DESPICABLE PLOT TWIST! I literally frozen in shock and stared at the wall for a couple minutes before I could do anything else. And I swear I’m really hoping the next book comes out soon or I’m going to go completely insane! I love a stalker romance, with an unhinged mmc and this book took it to the next level. Because the mouth on that man? And the way he talks about watching her through cameras all day as if it’s just a regular occurrence is just hilarious. But I also love a feminist king (or so he claims to be), and the man is ROUGH, like 6.5 inches of him down there. Back to plot, it was very typical stalker romance at first, lots of touch her and die moments with gruesomely detailed torture scenes (read at your own risk)! But I loved the way intensity built slowly at first, focusing on their relationship, but then the other side of the plot quickens and shines through, creating such an engaging book from beginning to end. The plot was amazing without a doubt, he’s obsessed, she’s running from her past, their worlds collide, and suddenly both of them are facing something much bigger than themselves. The plot twists are 10/10 incredible but horrifying, and that cliffhanger ending was insane. I loved both characters, M especially but Lara was such a fun and sassy fmc too (but near the end we realise there’s so much more to her that we have yet to discover). This book was gripping, fast paced, sometimes pretty funny and also at times quite an emotional read. Literally one of the best things I’ve read this month, I give it a 5/5
"Humanity has never been on the brink of collapsing, it already has. Moral compasses are rarer than any fairy tale produced by humankind."
I was hooked from the moment I started the story and how much it showed the reader just how far M would go for Lana (it was well deserved but still, WOW). This story was not only suspenseful and had so many insane twists that I wasn't expecting! On top of how interesting the story was, the characters themselves hold so much mystery and depth that it kept me pushing to read more to fully understand everything that was happening.
Themes and tropes included: - touch her and die (literally) - morally black, hired assassin MMC x damsel in distress - stalking - knife and primal play (was very spicy)
I went into this aware of the triggers but I'd definitely recommend for other readers to do the same. It's definitely morally black in the sense M is obsessed with Lana and actively stalks her and Lana (takes comfort in that?) as she's aware of it. It definitely came off as insta-love, which isn't my favorite but the plot stood out for me enough to want to continue reading. I did find the pacing rather fast and the dialogue was a bit cringey at times? But it is the first book in a duology and I'll definitely be checking out the second to see the direction this goes in!
This book had me hooked from the start and I couldn’t put it down!
I was constantly theorizing and trying to piece the puzzle together the whole book, but wow! That ending!! What a fantastic cliff hanger that will set us up perfectly for book 2! 👏🏼
If you want a dark underworld romance about an assassin and a damsel in distress where he is head over heels obsessed with her and will do anything for her, you will love this book! 🖤
wow, A.H. Monroe is a new to me author and she is definitely up there with Sheridan Ann. omg this Dark romance is one of my favorites. it had so much that kept me reading and When I wanted to put the book down I couldn't. when I had to put the book down I couldn't not until I finished it.
I just to start off by thanking love notes pr for giving me the opportunity to read an arc copy of hum for me by A.H Monroe.
Normally dark romance is my kind of books I love to read, especially since hum for me was so packed with drama, but I just didn’t love it. Which is disappointing because it is a great book, I just couldn’t immerse myself into the story and the characters.
But if you are someone to loves dark romance, a stalker mc and a strong fmc along with a great plot twist and danger around every corner, this might just be the book worth your time.
First of all, I loved the writing style! It was easy to read and felt like a friend was telling me the story 😊
The plot - oh God, it really messed with my brain. I’m not kidding. The whole time I was suspicious about what would happen next and how it would end. I had so many theories, and in the end, it turned out in a way I definitely didn’t expect.
Great balance of spice - not too much and not too little. And those scenes were really unhinged - these two really found each other 😏
I was shocked by the cliffhanger, and now I have a lot of questions. I really hope the next book will give me all the answers. Can't wait for the next book!

Hum for Me is the 1st book in the Deadly Serenade series by A.H. Monroe.
This is the first book by A.H. Monroe that I have read. And even though I had never read a book by this author before I knew going into this book that I was going to enjoy this book, especially as it was a dark romance and I’m a sucker for a great dark romance. Still, what I wasn’t expecting was how quickly I was going to be pulled into this book and totally enthralled.
A.H. Monroe’s has a writing style that feels like you’re immediately coming home. From the first chapter I felt as ease and I felt like I was eased into the story like it was nothing at all. And from that moment it was so incredibly easy to get enthralled in the story and couldn’t stop reading till I read the very last word.
I was so excited to watch M & Lana grow and evolve through the story. After Lana and M met, it took some time to warm up and really open up to M., but as she got to know him, once she saw more of him and who he truly was, she realized that she couldn’t resist him any longer.
I truly loved the way that Lana challenged M. And in return M. was prepared for everything that Lana threw at him, but when he looked at Lana and it came to Lana herself, he knew that he had to step up his game, and really that just drew him in even more and it drew him to Lana all that much more. And the chemistry between M. and Lana builds up in such a beautiful and natural way that is still intense, and this makes all their interactions so intensely charged.
A.H. Monroe knitted in quite a few themes into the story, but the two themes that really stood out to me were self-discovery & healing from the past. The self-discovery theme stood out to me in the way the characters were forced to confront the parts of themselves that they’ve been avoiding, the parts of themselves they’ve been refusing to truly look at, those parts of themselves that they’ve kept pushed into the shadows, and now they’ve been forced to look at all those parts of themselves, no matter how uncomfortable it makes them or how much it adds unpleasantness to their lives.
The healing theme remains more subtle until it finally starts to become more & more visible when you get deeper into the story, especially as you get closer to the ending, and it’s there that you realize that Lana still has a lot of healing to do, a lot to process herself – and this becomes more apparent when you get to the massive cliffhanger which leads into the sequel, which I am now waiting for on pins and needles.
M. is one of those characters that will never keep from amazing me, but M. has managed to surprise me. I loved how slowly M. starts to open up to Lana more & more. I love when I can read about a man who would do anything and everything for the woman he loves with his whole heart, even when that love is frightening in the beginning. I can truly and honestly say that M. is one of my all time favorite MMCs of all time.
A.H. Monroe did an amazing job with the pacing, keeping me completely enthralled the entire time I was reading this book, there was never a single moment when I was reading this book that I felt bored or disconnected. I found that this was honestly just one of those books that I could keep on reading without wanting to put it down, I had issues wanting to put it down at night so I could get some sleep.
And I can’t review this book without talking about the spice. A.H. Monroe has given us spice that’s on a whole new level. Especially right in the beginning, it’s like M. doesn’t know how to express his emotions in any way other than through physical intimacy (or through violence), and I found that this added a rather interesting layer to M’s. character.
And the spice in and of itself is so intense & it’s detailed in this way that you don’t really see that often & I can honestly say that I ate up every single moment of it. The details helped to enhance the emotional connection between M. and Lana. And the details helped me to see and feel the level of intimacy the two of them shared and it kind of almost ruined me to a degree that I may never fully recover from.
This book totally enthralled me & it refused to let me go. It was the ending that I wasn’t ready for. And it really didn’t feel like any kind of conclusion, rather it felt like it was more of a setup for something bigger to come. Now I need the next installment because I am not OK and I don’t think I’m going to be OK till I can read the next book.
If you enjoy a blend of dark romance, murder mystery, and psychological twists and turns then this is a book that you’re not going to want to skip reading. But, make sure you read the trigger warnings. I loved this book and I can’t wait to read the next installment.
My favorite quote from this book was:
“Lana, you made my heart beat again, and I’ll be damned if anybody tries to take that away from me.”
ARC review 📚 🖤🐭 I've been waiting for this one for so long… and it did not disappoint!
From the moment this book was announced, I knew I needed M and Lana’s story and finally getting my hands on it felt so worth it. Even the author’s note immediately pulled me in. That first line?
"So you really want to read about a man who loves to chain up his woman?" 😱
Yeah… it already had me hooked. People who really know me will know that chains are always a big yes for me, so I have to give extra credit for that 😉 I also really appreciate the clear disclaimer that this is fiction and not a guide to BDSM. So important, and definitely worth extra credit. And a little reminder for anyone interested in exploring these activities: please do proper research and always stay risk-aware!
Going into this, the trigger warning list (or should I say menu 🤭) checked every box for me: stalking, primal play, abduction, 🩸 play, 🔪 play, choking… combined with lighter BDSM elements like tying up and spanking. If you enjoy darker, kinkier romances like I do, this will probably be right up your alley, but please read the full list carefully because some topics are definitely not for everyone...
One thing that stood out to me early on is that this story starts differently than most dark romances. Instead of watching the obsession grow, you’re dropped into a situation where it’s already there. For me that made the beginning feel a bit unusual and slightly harder to fully get into, like I was missing a piece of how it all started. I would absolutely love to see more of that in the next book! maybe through flashbacks?
But what really makes this story shine is the dynamic between M and Lana. Lana is such a brat at times (and I loved that 🤣) but she also knows exactly when to give in. And M… he’s a fascinating contradiction. Controlled, dangerous, calculated but also incredibly attentive. A man in love, as he says so himself. The softer moments like washing her hair, taking care of her, putting her to bed,... really show how deeply he cares. The chemistry between them is intense. Every interaction feels charged, like it could explode at any moment. The build-up in the spicy scenes is done so well and they’re written in such a vivid, detailed way that it’s incredibly easy to get completely absorbed.
The stalking aspect might not be for everyone, some might even find it creepy but within this story it adds to that constant presence M has in Lana’s life. He has his eyes on her at all times… and honestly, how can you not feel safe? And that “touch her and die” energy? Very real. Very present. 😉
This was my first time reading anything from A. H. Monroe and I absolutely loved the writing style. It’s easy to read, hard to put down, and very engaging.
Plot-wise, the story keeps you on edge with multiple twists. Some you might expect, others will definitely surprise you. It constantly makes you question what’s real and who you can trust.
And that ending… that cliffhanger? 😱 Let’s just say: I had a feeling—and I was right. But if you want to know what I mean… you’ll have to read it yourself 😉
This one felt like stepping into something dark, quiet, and a little deceptive… in the best way.
Hum For Me sits comfortably in the dark romance space, but it doesn’t quite tip into pitch black. The MMC is undeniably dangerous (morally dark, obsessive, and intense) but there are clear moments where you see the humanity underneath. It softens the edges just enough to keep him compelling without losing that edge.
And then there’s Lana.
She’s written like an open book, but the more you read, the more you start to question that. There’s this subtle sense that something isn’t lining up ... that maybe what we’re being told and what’s actually true aren’t the same thing. Whether intentional or not, it adds a layer of intrigue that keeps you paying attention.
The dynamic between them is charged from the start. There’s this push and pull between control, survival, and temptation that builds into something intense and consuming. And when it comes to the spice… it delivers. This is very much a true dark romance in that regard, with some more niche elements mixed in, so definitely check your triggers going in.
What kept this from being a full five stars for me mostly came down to the technical side. There were moments where wording or grammar pulled me out of the story, and instead of staying immersed, I found myself pausing to figure out what was meant. There were also a few instances of telling rather than showing, which softened the emotional impact in places where it could have hit even harder.
But that ending?
The plot twist and cliffhanger absolutely made up for it. I knew something was off, I could FEEL it, but I never would have guessed THAT. The misdirection was done so well that I fully bought into what the story wanted me to believe, which made the reveal land even harder.
Overall, this was a gripping, high-intensity read with a strong central dynamic and an ending that leaves you reeling. Definitely one for dark romance readers who like a little mystery woven into their obsession.
The beginning paints the story red. For a minute, the red overwhelmed me, however, the color red I know can be 'pretty'. 😉
I love how intertwined the characters are with each other. M, a trained assassin; lethal, skillful, and so so dark. And Lana, a strong force holding on to what she can dearly so she doesn’t yield to M’s darkness. Yes, ‘Hum For Me’ has a sweet delectable disorder romance to it. From the unhinged attachments to the dark corners of M’s mind. Their romance held me until the very end.
M, a red flag that isn’t dyed but soaked from his kills, will go further than you can imagine to get what is his. His intense devotion will drive you to anticipate his next move. Which I absolutely love about M. Such a morally black MMC but I can’t help but to love his standards and motives. All his motives? Let’s just say most of them, (wink).
And I love how THE STORY itself, drew me further. And it had me asking questions as I read along. A hint of mystery, a lot of violence, and more red! Every turn a new possibility which drove me asking- What is happening? Who? And once I start asking those questions....well you know you got me hooked.
I love the author takes me to new places, discovering Sarajevo, new heights, how far will M go? and new playgrounds, the chase x the hunt. Oh! The chase and the hunt!... I marvel at those moments-they were fun to read. Oh Lana, Oh M, so tangled and twisted.
Hum For Me starts red then mixes a sinful black to it. The results? A savoury dark red that tastes sweet, delectable, and 'pretty' vicious as you enter Lana and M’s world.
Happy Reading!
Thank you to Love Notes PR for the ARC.
What to expect: 🖤 Morally Black MMC 💀 Hired Assassin x Damsel in Distress 👀 Stalking 💔 Corruption Arc 🔪 Revenge 🪦 Touch Her and Die 💰 Billionaire 👹 Dark Underworld
• 𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬 - - dark underworld - revenge - touch her & die - hired assassin x damsel in distress - corruption arc - possessive protector - cat & mouse - morally black MMC
• 𝐌𝐲 𝐓𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 - This story follows Lana, a girl who has built her whole life around survival, staying invisible, and trusting no one. She lives quietly in the shadows, doing whatever it takes to get by. Then there is him. A man people fear, a killer who lives in darkness, who notices her and decides she belongs to him. What starts as silent watching slowly turns into obsession, control, and a dangerous connection where he removes every threat in her life in his own brutal way. As Lana’s world begins to shift, she realizes she is no longer invisible. She has been chosen. I absolutely loved the dark vibe of this book. It felt intense, addictive, and so consuming from the first page. The male lead is completely unhinged and I ate that up. He is not soft, not redeemable, and not trying to be good. He owns who he is and that made his character even more powerful. The way he calls her his and moves in the shadows around her life was both chilling and weirdly captivating. Lana’s character felt real and strong in her own quiet way. Her need to survive, her fear, and her slow realization were written so well. And that ending, it was dark, bold, and stayed in my mind long after I finished. This book ends with a shocking cliffhanger and i am already waiting for book 2. This is perfect for readers who love intense dark romance with a dangerous, obsessive male lead and a story that feels more like a psychological experience than a simple romance. Thank you lovenotepr for the ARC!
When I read dark romance, THIS is exactly the kind of storyline I look for! Lana’s life is built on survival and lies, she does odd jobs, makes herself unseen, one with the shadows. Until M comes along, a hired assassin who’s the monster people whisper about. He kills for a living and is the epitome of stealth. But when his eyes land on her? Game over. He wants to chase her, own her, ruin her. The dark underworld, the corruption arc, the stalking, it’s all there!
🖤 Morally Black MMC: M absolutely fits the bill, possessive, obsessive stalker vibes, and he’s tall as hell! The scenes showcasing just HOW morally black he is were wonderful, and I LOVED the whole dark underworld element!
🖤 FMC with Secrets: Lana works hard for everything she’s got, and she’s definitely hiding some major secrets
🖤 The Tropes: Hired Assassin x Damsel in Distress, Stalking, Corruption Arc, Revenge, Touch Her and Die, Billionaire, Dark Underworld
🖤 That Ending: I did NOT see it coming, and now I need to know what happens next in the series!
While I enjoyed their dynamic, I wish Lana didn’t give in SO quickly. Within the first 5 chapters after meeting him ONCE, she was like “yeah okay I’m in.” I wanted those stalker vibes to ride out longer! Maybe that’s just me, but I like a little more tension in my romance. But the spice was spicing! Unfortunately, the writing felt okay at times, some parts were confusing or felt rushed, which took me out of the story.
If you love morally black MMCs, dark underworld settings, and don’t mind a quick burn, grab this one! Just know it’s got some pacing issues but delivers on the dark romance tropes!
Thank you to @lovenotes.pr for gifting me this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Thank you Love Notes PR and A.H. Monroe for the gifted ARC!
What a thrilling romantic suspense. The spice was steamy (5 🌶️) and the dark romantic suspense vibes were ethereal. I loved my first impression of A.H. Monroe’s work. Lana and M had a cat and mouse dynamic and the stalking possessiveness was deliciously dark. I want the second book ASAP. The cliffhanger CLIFFHANGED y’all! This first half of a duet has me staring at a wall.

First time reading this author and it won’t be the last to say the least. If you’ve been friends with me on Goodreads for awhile know you will know that dark romance is a genre that I predominantly read and this book was a perfect blend of dark romance elements such as st•lker, unhinged MMC, while also adding element such as murder mystery and also those plot twists that you won’t see coming.
Now let’s get into it with our characters. We have Lana and M, it was quite interesting seeing their dynamic play out through the book. Starting off for me it seemed that M only expressed his emotions in two ways and that was intimacy or along the not so peaceful way if you catch my drift. He is a man that always seems to come across prepared for every scenario but when it came to Lana he had to step up and make sure his ground was covered even further. This is what made me like Lana even further as it seemed she challenged M in many ways.
It took our FMC quite a bit to warm up to our MMC but I quite preferred this in a book rather than the instant falling element. Her chemistry with M was none other than intense and I was eating up every single moment between them and the spice? Well that was a whole new level of what I’ve read previously🤭
Without giving to much away this book kept me engaged in all aspects, usually I try to predict what can happen when it comes to these types of books but when I thought it was going to go one way it was a complete u turn. This book is a duet so there is a cliffhanger and I am absolutely itching to have book two in my hands.
Thank you so much to the author and Love Notes PR who provided this e-arc for my honest thoughts 💭
ARC review. First I want to thank LoveNotesPR and A.H. Monroe for the opportunity to read this story.
Hum For Me is a dark romance. This story follows Lana. Lana is a woman who has been driven by survival and trusting no one. She does whatever she can to get by while staying in the dark. Then there is this man, (M) a killer in the night and the man everyone fears. The moment this man notices Lana he decides she is his and begins watching her. This then turns into obsession and he removes anything that stands in her way.
This book was addicting and very much dark vibes with great intensity. I did not want to put it down. The chemistry and the tension between the two characters was hot. The cliffhanger had me wanting and needing more!

He Called Her His Hummingbird and Then Proceeded to Ruin Me Completely
Lana has spent her life perfecting the art of disappearing — odd jobs, no attachments, no trace. M has spent his life being the thing that finds people who don't want to be found. When his eyes land on her it stops being a choice for either of them. What makes this work beyond the obvious obsessive MMC energy is how layered both characters actually are. Lana is intelligent, resilient, and quietly formidable in a way that sneaks up on you. She doesn't fold for M — she challenges him, keeps him on his toes, and forces him to actually step up in ways he's never had to before. Watching him reckon with that is genuinely compelling. Their chemistry builds slowly and naturally before hitting an intensity that is very much not for the faint of heart. The thriller element running underneath everything kept me fully invested — businesses being burned down, a disappearing assassin, cryptic notes pointing toward Lana, people being taken. The mystery weaves through the romance without overshadowing it and the payoff when everything converges is genuinely shocking. The dual POV is one of the strongest storytelling choices here. Living inside both M and Lana's heads simultaneously gives the story a double life quality that makes every interaction hit differently when you understand what both of them are carrying. That ending though. I was absolutely not prepared. This reads less like a conclusion and more like a detonation setting up something much bigger — and I need book two immediately. Dark, intense, masterfully paced, and completely addictive

Thank you, A.H., and LoveNotesPR, for this opportunity. I thoroughly enjoyed the story of M and Lana.
Oh, the drama, the suspense—this book was top-tier! The thrill had me sitting on the edge of my seat.
A man who kills for her and protects her at all costs? Sign me up! M was incredibly smitten in a dangerous way, and I loved it.
The chemistry between M and Lana was exciting, electric, and beautifully written.
The spice in this book was spicing, because OMG it was hot in there.
Side Characters: 1. The banter between Oliver and Josh was top-notch; I absolutely loved it. They were so interesting and fun. 2. The side characters were incredibly supportive, and I thoroughly enjoyed their bond. 3. Sara, Hana, and Lana were all badass, and I love them for that. 4. Adam and Sara's relationship was so beautiful and sweet.
This book was so good that even hours/days after finishing it, scenes kept coming to mind and made more sense.
The manipulation, revenge, and suspense were gripping. Even though I saw the plot twist coming (which is usually the case for me), it was thrilling to watch it unfold.
I cannot wait to see what happens next. I hope we get a book featuring Sarah and Adam, as well as Oliver and Josh.
