Nevask Shipping handles over one-third of the Confederation’s cargoes. It is a family company dating back to the earliest days of commercial spaceflight.
It has a problem. A major problem.
Persons unknown routinely raid Nevask shipments. Very specific shipments. Low-volume, high-value cargoes disappear at least twice a month. There must be someone on the inside picking the targets.
But when the latest internal investigation turns up nothing—yet again—Sukal Nevask takes a chance on a new security firm.
Shepherd Security Services.
Join Alex and company for their next adventure and find out what awaits them in Colfyr.
Robert M. Kerns (or Rob if you ever meet him in person) is a geek, and he claims that label proudly. Most of his geekiness revolves around Information Technology (IT), having over fifteen years in the industry; within IT, he especially prefers Servers and Networks, and he often makes the claim that his residence has a better data infrastructure than some businesses.
Beyond IT, Rob enjoys Science Fiction and Fantasy of (almost) all stripes. He is a voracious reader, with his favorite books too numerous to list.
Rob has been writing for over twenty years, and "Awakening" is his debut novel.
I'm not much on dissecting a book but rather how I enjoyed it. For me, a book is good when I can mentally fall into it, seeing the world as described by the author. It's a great book when I'm not jarred by horrible editing, poor grammar or spelling. This is a great read and I look forward to the next one.
I have really enjoyed reading both these books. The story lines keep me excited and wanting to keep reading. However it would be nice to lock down Dr. Tams gender since he refers to the doctor as her in one chapter and he in another. Still can’t wait for the next book. Very enjoyable series.
A fascinating, riviting and suspenseful novel full of surprises and plot twists about a human exploring the cosmos after being abducted against his will and thrown into a galactic society composed of furry creatures that are as ascient as or people with morals or evil agendas., ,
Kudos To the author It was a great read a lot of fun And very different And I enjoy the whole scenario And using species from earth to Develop was really great Must be interested to see a tiger walking upright and speaking with you so I think that's kind of cool
This was a decent SciFi story, which started with an interesting main character and a ‘universe’ which was OK, if not well thought out. Overall it was an enjoyable read, but unfortunately the author has decided to turn the main character into a ridiculous comic book ‘super’ hero.
I'm still enjoying the series. This book simply progresses "The Sheppard " Alex fame and reputation. Much of the interactions are over the top and simplistic in their scope. Alex has everything fall in line as usual. Still fun relaxing read.
Okay...first... the author either played the Other Sun's Table Top Role Playing Game....or he's a furry.
That's okay....its still a good book.
The protagonist because he's from the True Home experiences superman like strength and endurance when he undergoes upgrades....Which is fine. Bit he's white. What will happen if an African American...a victime of 400 years of eugenics throigh slavery ever gets upgraded? Since the author is whote I'm willing to bet we never find out.
Also...all the cat-women, Dog-women, and Koala-women have the hots for him. Thankfully the author is vague on how anatomically close to human these upgraded beings are.. but I wonder if he understands enough about cat reproduction to realize that they would be disappointed in sex with out hero?
Basically the series makes him a demigod all the good aliens are devoted to and the bad aliens can be easily conquered Ina good old fist fight.
I know that's a lot, but it's still well written and fun.
This work has all the depth of the old Farstar And Son series. Fun, but not to be taken seriously. There is a foreshadowing of him meeting his girl in the middle of the work...and the way she worships him you know the author is NOT happy how women treat him in the real world. It's painfully obvious the author expects any beautiful smart and powerful women he encounters in the real world to worship him with desperate longing....like the protagonist which is him.
This isn't Neal Asher, or Richard Morgan, or even Alec Baldwin....but it's better than David Drake, or Skylar Ramirez (I know that a low bar) If you liked Thorarin Gunnerson's K9 Corps, or Phule's Legion, or The Warrior's Apprentice series...you should like this book.
Again.....still a fun read..

Author Robert Kerns continues his fine scifi series about a sheep herder kidnapped by aliens.
In this book Alex continues his training and development in the science and culture of the alien society in which he finds himself. He also continues to recruit aliens to his Shepherd security service. He takes people who have been misjudged or misassigned by others and taps into their capabilities.
His long-term goal is to be trained as a space captain. But in the meantime he's happy to recruit a captain who's been blackballed by a powerful spacing clan.
As a hairless, tailless alien without teeth or talons, he's considered a pushover--until he pulls out his .45 Colt and blows up someone's shoulder or leg.
