Christmas With the Prince is a clean romance that explores a young woman who is preparing to make her debut into society after a year grieving her mother's untimely death. To warm her up, her oldest sister and brother-in-law choose a group of supposed amiable acquaintances to take with them.
The characters are rather bland, the sugary sweet, goody-two-shoes heroine overpowering and like the formulaic read, one knows the roles that the characters are going to play even before getting into depth. For readers of books like this, the ending doesn't matter but rather how you get to it.
And the book struggled with whether it wanted to be a Christian read. For the most part the first section mostly ignored God and faith while basically just remembering them towards the end.
What really made this book a grind to me was a good chunk of this book was repetitive filler that didn't add anything but more pages to slog through. The only villain was basically misunderstood and the actual villain just vanished into the woodwork as if they hadn't added any tension to the plot at all.
And if you thought things may get better, you're wrong. The bonus chapter that came with the book provided the same saccharine impossibilities as was forced fed to the reader in the first place instead of using it to improve the story and add some realism like the missing chaperone.
Meanwhile the book struggled with wrong pronouns, missing words, misspellings and other gaffes such as the use of three commas at one point.
If you're looking for a seasonal read with all the bad traits you can find between two covers than this book may be for you.
The plot is well paced, but basic Regency romance. The characters are standard and uninspired except for a minor antagonist. The writing is my biggest issue. The pronouns he/she and him/her are rarely used correctly. The book also is in desperate need of an editor. In addition to the many flagrant grammatical errors, the book has continuity and logistical errors that could be solved by a competent editor. I won’t be reading anything else by this author.
I love when couples fall in love at first sight. Priscilla and Randolph certainly couldn’t stay away from each other and it was sweet how he got up early to go horseback riding with Priscilla. It was awesome reading their story and how they got married fast so they could go back to his country where Priscilla made a difference for the people
Story was good but disappointed in all the proofreading errors - missing words, duplicate words, typos / wrong words (go instead of got). Spell check does not equate to proofreading. Also, disappointed that there was no conclusion to who hired the Frenchman.
Basically, I liked this story. I enjoyed the plot and the characters. I am only giving it three stars because of the numerous mistakes which made it quite aggravating to read. Needs some editing to improve the overall experience.
This was an enjoyable, clean read with likeable main characters. There was a bit of intrigue as well as some bizarre behavior by one of the other young ladies. Some 'condition' is hinted at but I'm not sure what. It was quite obvious though that she had the potential to be dangerous. The story started like an essay, in my view, but thankfully it became more interesting and enjoyable. Liked the ending as well as the extended epilogue, which I continue to hope will be included in books and not used to get reader's to sign up to a newsletter.
If you enjoy reading about life in early England, you'll enjoy this book. Although I read the entire book, I found it to be very slow reading. It was easy to put down and harder to finish it. It's a sweet story with a subtle Christian base. I do not have a problem with that. Just implying that it's a "clean" story.
At a house party, Priscilla falls for a handsome young man who turns out to be the prince of a foreign country. Anyone he marries will have to follow him to his land and give up the home she’s ever known. Is Priscilla willing to risk everything for love? A pleasant historical romance with royalty.
After reading a very intense book, this sweet book was a balm for my nerves and sanity. Well written and edited, the story was lovely in its sincerity and portrayal of first and true love for Priscilla.
If you love The Regency then this is the book for you. I was impressed by the love and faith in God. It showed how real Christians should be. The vicar was very inspiring. It’s a different type of story that was positively inspiring
