Necropolis has always belonged to the vampires - until the election of the city's first human mayor shatters centuries of tradition and stirs old rivalries back to life. The fragile peace is threatened as werewolves and vampires circle each other with renewed hostility.

In the midst of the unrest, Raphael - a fierce, loyal werewolf - crosses paths with Liliana, a vampire whose quiet grace hides a heart aching for something more. What begins as a forbidden curiosity soon blossoms into a love neither of them can resist. In each other they find safety, passion, and a connection powerful enough to defy the boundaries carved in blood and history.

But dark forces lurk within Necropolis. As the political turmoil reaches a crescendo, Raphael and Liliana must hold fast to the bond they’ve found or risk losing not only each other, but their lives.

Can their love overcome the hurdles before them and write a new future for the city, or will they be consumed by the tumultuous tide?

Thank you to the publisher for providing this book for review purposes via NetGalley. All opinions are my own.

I really enjoy paranormal romances, when I saw the blurb of this book it reminded me of another book that I really enjoyed so I thought I’d give it a try. I thought the plot was good but I struggled with the pacing and the writing as for me the writing didn’t flow smoothly, when reading dialogue between the characters it felt slightly stilted. I felt at the start of this book it was a little slow to start, considering this is a short book at just over 200 pages I felt it could have done with being a little longer to give the storyline room to grow. What I did enjoy about this book was the scene at the Mayors party when Raphael and Liliana first meet and can’t take their eyes of each other, this scene was done really well.

I would start by saying that this book is appropriately classified as teen & true YA. The guardians checking reviews to see if it’s okay for their teens should note that the furthest the romance progresses on page is a kiss!

This is a short read at a couple of hundred pages so there isn’t the depth you’d see in a fantasy twice this size. It did take a bit for me to find a good reading flow. I think it’s mostly due to the fact that the dialogue feels unnatural and the dynamics just feel off, somehow. There were a few things that were repeated a few times, sometimes in ways that were inconsistent, which is why I went with a 2 star.

I love the concept of this book! The werewolves vs vampires vs humans in one city sounds just like a book I’d enjoy. There were a few moments that genuinely surprised me with the plot. I enjoyed the first meeting of the love interests, too. Raphael just wanted all the good things in life & Liliana truly just wanted a more free life.

In all, decent and quick read.
