It’s beginning to look a lot like… a Christmas dognapping!
The royal family are gathered in Fenshire for Christmas Day. It should be perfectly festive—a crisp frost, church bells, and cheering crowds. But celebrations stall when the family return from their traditional walkabout after the morning service to find the King and Queen’s beloved bulldogs, Binky and Jeeves, have vanished.
Poof. Gone. Nobbled! Their dog walker said he was bonked on the head and tied up like a Christmas squeaky toy. Then someone rings up Fenn House and says not to call the police. Naturally, the humans panic. So my beloved Bea and her handsome fiancé Rich start investigating, and I—Daisy, loyal family dog, clever sniffer of clues and lover of treats—step up to help.
With a nervous staff member, a dog-supply vendor in the wrong place at the right time, and an enthusiastic royal superfan all under suspicion, Daisy, Bea, and Rich face a festive mystery more tangled than a string of tinsel.
Narrated by Daisy, this heartwarming holiday mystery follows her as she sniffs out clues, comforts worried humans, and tries her very best not to be distracted by squirrels or sausages.
Can Daisy lead Bea and Rich to the nobbled bulldogs before Christmas is ruined?
Nobbled at Christmas is a warm and funny Christmas mystery filled with canine chaos, festive charm, and a dog determined to save the day.
Helen Golden spins crimes that are charmingly British, delightfully deadly, and served with a twist of humour.
With quirky characters, clever red herrings, and plots that keep the pages turning, she’s the author of the much-loved A Right Royal Cozy Investigation series, following Lady Beatrice and her friends—including one clever little dog—as they uncover secrets hidden in country houses and royal palaces. Her new historical mystery series, The Duchess of Stortford Mysteries, is set in Victorian England and introduces an equally curious sleuth from Lady Beatrice’s own family tree—where murders are solved over cups of tea, whispered gossip, and overheard conversations in drawing rooms and grand estates.
Helen lives in a quintessential English village in Lincolnshire with her husband, stepdaughter, and a menagerie of pets—including a dog, several cats, a tortoise, and far too many fish.
If you love clever puzzles, charming settings, and sleuths with spark, her books are waiting for you.
Our dear author has graced us with a wonderful Christmas gift in this book from Daisy's point of view. If you've read any books in the 'Right Royal Mysteries' then you will know Daisy but if you're unaware, she is an adorable dog owned by Lady Bea. This book is a standalone though, so don't fret if it's your first. Daisy is just in all of them.
I laughed out loud reading this book, some of Daisy's thoughts are so perfect. Well unless a squirrel, aka tree rat, pops into view. Then there's the dog costumes, I won't spoil it but the visuals they produce are funny, especially Father Christmas.
It's a great mood lifting story. The beautiful cover made me smile. Enjoy
A Surprise Christmas story from Helen - what a treat! I've been missing Bea and Rich a bit, so this was a great surprise and even better, it's written from Daisy's point of view. I loved the Queen's bulldogs (from afar - I wouldn't want to get too close to something that slobbery 😬), and how Daisy was was contrantly distracted by treats, both real and imagined, and squirrels. And oh, the indignity of a reindeer costume 🤣 I be she looked adorable. I also really enjoyed the descriptions of the sights and smells from the dog's points of view- I thought that was really well done. All in all, a short, fluffy, or is that furry? fun, Xmas story to get you in the festive spirit
Jeeves and Binky, the Queen’s bulldogs get dog-napped on their walk on Christmas morning. They wreck havoc in the room they end up in! Meanwhile, back at Fenn House, the King asks Lady Bea, Rick and (of course) Daisy to help find them. This is a really enjoyable book, and Daisy is the main character in it.
A perfect Christmas addition to the series. This festive novella finds Daisy getting involved and helping to rescue a pair of royal bulldogs who have been dognapped. Told from Daisy’s point of view and briefly that of the bulldog Jeeves. A quick, fun read with a few red herrings to keep you on your toes.
Spoiler Alert! Nobbled means deceit, dishonest - British slang. How could I read a book when I didn't know what the word meant? :) This is a short story about the royals, 3 dogs and the staff at Fenn house on Christmas Day. The story is about how a 17 year old boy whose mom recently passed away and his bid for attention from his brother who is on staff at the house. The queen has 2 pet bull dogs: Jeeves and Binky. The niece, Lady Bea and her dog, Daisy save the day. The bull dogs are kidnapped while on their morning walk. The entire staff are in a tizzy trying to find them before lunch is over and the queen looks for her dogs. The king wants no stone unturned, the dogs must be found immediately. Seeing things through Daisy's eyes was entertaining. The 17 yo turns out to have bit off more than he can chew. The dogs wreck his brothers apartment, thoroughly enjoying themselves. The queen never knows that the dogs were missing. The king wants the boy prosecuted to the max. I guess we commoners are more concerned with caring for others who are crying out for help. Instead of seeing the person who has wronged an overindulged rich person from getting revenge because their day was ruined. Mind you, the king ate lunch and dessert with his wife and other relatives. The niece, her husband, their dog and the staff went without lunch while solving the missing dogs problem. This very short story was mildly entertaining. The scene with the dogs in the apartment was funny. The ending really ticked me off. How could the king not realize that the boy is grieving? No one is spending time with him, helping him come to terms with becoming an orphan at 17. His whole world has been upturned! His behavior in not very Christianly and certainly not in keeping with Christmas spirit. I don't care that he wasn't given the max, he was still arrested, ended up with a criminal record and had to do community service. Was he offered grief counseling or any counseling at all?
Well, I am not sure that just words can justify this brilliant novella by Helen !! Literally a cracker, sorry for the pun but this book had it all! I smiled and chuckled with Helen’s innate sense of humour and totally absorbed the story. This book will keep any reader entertained, feeling bereft when they reach the last page. I am not a dog owner although I do love them, so the clever thought processes which can only be known by a dog owner such as Helen herself were indeed a revelation. Helen has, once again, woven her literary magic, her great attention to detail to describe situations, thoughts and atmosphere making each one of us readers feel that we were there, was there in abundance. This book will delight everyone who reads it, that’s a certainty. Festive, cleverly written, a wonderful perspective from Daisy’s point of view, canine knowledge for those of us who are not dog owners, a fun plot, what more can we ask for ! Yes, it wasn’t difficult to work out the villain !!! But that wasn’t what this book was about, it had it all and we couldn’t have asked for more from Helen ! Delivering her usually high standards of literature with a festive, doggy twist !
Such a lovely short Christmas novella in the fabulous Right Royal series!
This is quite short - but oh how sweet!
And a lovely twist with having the point of view of Daisy, Lady Bee's dog (a first in the series).
As always, Helen Golden writes with great wit - lots of very humerous bits to laugh over. She has also managed to pack in an amazingly numerous number of red herrings in what is a very short novella - so your interest is absolutely kept through the end.
Nobbled at Christmas is a lovely - and a bit different with Daisy's point of view - suprise addition to this, for me, very much loved series. (and if you haven't read the other books in the series, you really should - they are more than excellent!)
Daisy, Lady Bea's much loved Westie goes to visit the King and Queen for Christmas lunch in this delightful and unexpected Christmas novella. While the humans are off to church before lunch, the queen's treasured, slobbery bulldogs, Jeeves and Binky are off for their walk when they are dognapped! It is up to Lady Bea, her fiancé Richard Fitzwilliam and Daisy to locate the dogs before lunch is over and the queen learns they are missing. This is a sweet story told from Daisy's perspective. The tight little plot flows well and comes together perfectly. If you are looking for a delightfully charming way to spend an hour or so, grab this and take a short trip to jolly old England for the holiday.
Are you an animal lover? Daisy makes this story fun. Bea, Sam, and Fitzwilliam are spending Christmas Day at the King and Queen’s place. For Daisy, this means she has to spend the day with the bulldogs—ick! She does discover they look more ridiculous in their Christmas clothes than she does so that makes up for having to spend the day with them. The bulldogs disappear so Daisy has to help find them—much to her chagrin. She leads her humans to the answer, although they give more credit to another human. She is quite upset! Read this Christmas novella to discover how everyone has a wonderful Christmas day. I read an ARC of Nobbled at Christmas.
A delightful Christmas novella, with a good dose of wit. The royal dogs have been dognapped on Christmas Day, and Daisy is on the job - with more advantages (smell above all) than her humans, Lady Beatrice and Fitzgerald. Can the dogs be recovered before the queen realizes and it ruins Christmas? No murders, just a fun mystery which made me chuckle a lot, and which can be read on its own (although as usual, knowing the characters is beneficial). Five stars for the gentle happiness it brings. A feel-good novella just in time for Christmas! - I received an advance copy and freely leave this honest review.
I received an early copy and greatly enjoyed this little book. I might have been a bit prejudiced as I had a toy poodle named Daisy for almost 20 years and while this Daisy is a West Highland Terrier, her personality reminded me a good bit of my own girl. Plus, Daisy is also the canine heroine in this story. The royal bulldogs are in a bit of trouble and Daisy helps to sniff through all the clues and save the royal Christmas celebration. A delightful, light read for the holidays.
It’s Christmastime for our friends from the Right Royal Mysteries. Bea, Rich, Sam and Daisy are off to spend Christmas day with her Uncle, the King but mischief is afoot. When the royal bulldogs, Binky and Jeeves are dognapped Daisy takes the lead on the case to save the day in this adorable holiday outing from her point of view. Wonderful!
Amusing mystery romp! Written solely from the perspective of Daisy this was a delightful read with definitely a surprise ending. Many of the main characters of the series are present and engaged in solving the mystery though they do take a bit of a backseat to the loveable Daisy as she figures it out first. With Daisy as narrator we become privy to some very 'doggy' traits ~ look for oats and chuckle! Perfect length for an evening of entertainment.
Not being acquainted with the Lady Beatrice stories I was not sure what I was getting with this story. I was a bit surprised to find it is told from the perspective of Lady Beatrice's dog, Daisy. However the story though short, was quite enjoyable. I liked how Daisy was all for solving the case but her dog instincts kept getting in the way. I obviously need to now start on the actual series and find out about the human characters as well.
This is a fun cozy Christmas mystery told from the loveable canine, Daisy, point of view. The queen's bulldogs are dognapped and Daisy joins the hunt to find them. The author's description of the dog's behavior was humorous making this story entertaining.
I received a free advance copy of this book from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
To me this is one of the best books in this delightfully charming series. Daisy is completely adorable (and very clever), the plot and the descriptions of the Royal bulldogs are absolutely brilliant, and I love the humour. A must read!
A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.
This was a very interesting story ‘narrated’ by Lady Beatrice’s dog Daisy, and briefly by bulldog, Jeeves. The descriptions of the smells and sights are told from the dog’s point of view. It’s highly entertaining and very amusing. Told in Helen’s own style with a precise timeline of events. A wonderful Christmas tale.
A lovely Christmas read written by Daisy Bea’s little West Highland terrier. I found her little comments really funny and the way the dogs kept getting distracted by fascinating smells or squirrels 🐿️ was hysterical.
Loved, loved, loved it - bring on the next book in the series. 😍
A fun short holiday story that gives Daisy the dog and her two bulldog buddies the chance to give us their opinion on everything....This is a mystery and a little look at the everyday life of royals. Good story, fun read....perfect for the busy holidays.
If you love heart-warming and humorous novellas starring three lovable dogs, you need to read the latest Helen Golden novella. Nobbled at Christmas is a delightful read and perfect during the holiday season.
This is a wonderful series, and I enjoyed the Christmas book. It is a mystery but there is also humor, and Daisy was the star of this book. Recommend reading.
A kidnapping, oops, sorry, a dog-napping, that didn't go as well as expected for the perp but gave me plenty to smile about. Good Christmas read, lots of fun and a great addition to the series.
