For the first time, The Wrecked and Ruined Series is now available as a box set.
One accident. Four lives. Forever changed. "It was only a single moment, but it destroyed us all."
Changing Course After a tragic accident robs him of a future with his wife, Brett Sharp must let go of the past and learn to love again. But what happens when the woman he used to love refuses to accept the woman he can’t live without?
Stolen Course After the loss of his fiancée, Caleb Jones is angry and numb. His only goal is to make the woman who killed her pay. But what happens when everything he knows to be true explodes around him? Who will be left to pick up the pieces, and who will need to be saved from the wreckage?
Among The Echoes After being stripped of her identity, Dr. Erica Hill had long since stopped living. The day she meets celebrity boxer, Slate Andrews, her life drastically changes for the better...and the worse. She's on the run, determined not to take him down with her, but absolutely unable to let him go.
Broken Course After the fated accident that killed her best friend, Sarah Erickson is left consumed by guilt and self-loathing. But can a second broken soul be enough to fill the voids of her own? Or will such scarred pasts prove too much for love alone to overcome?
Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.
Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, charcuterie boards, and her mildly neurotic golden retriever. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.
She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
Overall, the series as a whole gets a solid 4. Brett's book is my least favorite and Sarah's book was my favorite. There's a lot of angst, but also a lot of hang-ups with people other than the heroines, which to me is always a pet peeve. Yet, Aly's writing is fantastic and each book is better than the one before.
Chapter three and I KNOW this one is going to hurt. Shuffling it off for later because I can't read sad books currently. Later in Feb, I will since it sounds like it'll have an HEA.
This series has yanked my emotions. It starts out so tragic. The main characters for all books do such an amazing job of healing and moving forward. Absolutely love how this author brought it all together at the end. An amazing, beautiful, heartbreaking, series!!! You won't be sorry for diving into this one!!!
I am an independent reviewer. This box set contains all four books in the series. All the books end in an HEA.
“Changing Course”, “Stolen Course” and “Broken Course” are all the fall-out from a car accident that kills one of two best friends. The survivor, Sarah, has a personality altering brain injury and is now suicidal. Her husband, Brett, cares for her for 4 years after the accident, but Sarah now hates him. Nothing changes for Brett until he meets Jesse and falls in love again. The friend that died was the fiancée of Caleb, who can’t move on from her until he meets Emma. The anguish Brett and Caleb were in for 4 years was gut wrenching. Having them both find someone else was awesome. Manda, Caleb’s fiancée, really didn’t seem that great to me. She broke up with him all the time, wouldn’t actually marry him and just seemed to treat him badly. Caleb seemed like a smart guy. I don’t know why he would put up with that.
The one thing holding everyone together is Sarah. She was a nut job in the first book. She gets her own book and happy ending, but she was a hard one to care about. She falls for Leo. Leo is introduced in the novella “Among the Echoes”. This novella is a stepping stone to the boxing books that spin off from these stories. Leo was undercover and failed to protect an innocent woman. He failed big time. I had a hard time caring or liking Leo. When Leo and Sarah got together, I must admit I didn’t really care what happened to them. I just wanted to see the characters from the previous books. I love the characters of Slate and Erica. The huge boxer protecting a damaged woman is a great story line and Slate is the ultimate Alpha male.
These books are interesting in the way the future turns out nothing like we planned. I also enjoyed seeing into the future a bit in regards to the children. This box set is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving this series 5 stars.
I finished reading this last night and I tried to wait 24 hours before posting this to see if I could calm down a bit. Nope, still disgusted. I enjoyed this up until Broken Course. That one I liked at first but I gotta say that Leo is one of the worst so-called H I have ever read. He's a liar and even though he had plenty of opportunities to confess the whole truth to Sarah, he never did. I feel like the author just continued to pile this crap on Sarah just to create more story.
I never would have expected to but I really liked Sarah. In the first book she's just this crazy, obnoxious witch. However, she slowly grew on me through the series. The other girls were doormats except for Erica, but I hated her anyway. Yes a horrible thing happened to her but to be a raging total witch to a man who is trying to help you is just ridiculous. Also the whole Erica/Leo relationship is just so wrong. I just kept thinking wtf?? It's really disturbing.
SPOILERS--Leo has a child with an old girlfriend that he has never seen but pays child support for. The little girl's mother dies and a case worker shows up to speak to Leo about her and Sarah finds out because Leo (surprise, surprise) isn't home. Sarah is understandibly upset because once again he has kept something from her. This is just one of many instances of his lying by omission. Then he acts like she has no right to be upset, then Caleb tells her she's being a selfish witch because she's not immediately excited about Leo having a kid. Seriously, she had no support. I felt so bad for her. Again I feel like that whole thing was just to add pages. I think Sarah has been through enough and I think she deserves better than Leo James. The whole series is tainted for me now.
My favorite find of 2014, Aly Martinez, has wrapped up her series Wrecked and Ruined, in one amazing package. We have eight characters whose lives have been forever tied together through horrific events. We see them struggle to survive, we see them pick themselves up and find love and happiness. They find themselves living again. Every book will have you on an emotional roller coaster; and you're going to love it. Every book has an epic twist that will blow your mind. I took a few sentences from each of my original reviews that I wrote after reading them last year, and put them below.
Changing Course: This book is just wow; it's just AMAZING. My emotions were everywhere. Aly Martinez squeezes in one of the best twists I've ever read.
Stolen Course: Aly Martinez has done it again. She made me laugh, cry swoon, and fall in love with her characters. I bought this book without reading the synopsis, and with only reading a few pages of book one.
Among The Echoes: This book has everything that I hope and look for. It had me on the edge of my seat just as much as it had me swooning.
Broken Course: It is amazing, captivating, stunning. I was ready to hear Sarah's story, and I needed to hear Leo's. To get inside their heads and see how much they have struggled to survive over the years was breathtaking.
"You're you, Brett. And I'm just inexperienced little Jesse Addison."
I have to admit that Jesse's insecurities grew tiresome fast.
"Jess, you have to stop worrying so much. I like you, and I enjoyed the hell out of everything you did tonight."
~She knew my insecurities and she played right into them.~
Way too much giggling. Never a fan of this trait in books. It actually makes me cringe when I read about giggling.
Brett needed to man up sooner than he did. But thankfully he eventually did.
Shit, I am such a bastard. Who does that? I'll tell you who. Brett fucking Sharp. Asshole extraordinaire.
Let's talk about Sarah . . . she is cray cray.
"Jesus Christ! Open you fucking eyes, Brett! . . ."
"My sweet Jesse, you have no idea what you are talking about. Last night was just the beginning."
I felt the last part of book was well done.
~Between Sarah, Brett's guilt and my insecurities, it's been one road block after another.
Stolen Course
Caleb & Emma
~ I can't touch Emma. No matter how much I want to. It would be seven million shades of fucked up when things got messy. And there is no doubt things would get messy.
"Don't be a dick just to keep me at a distance."
~ I just opened a door, and Emma all too willingly walked right through it. Let the shit show begin.
~ I need some magical fix-all that can help us both overcome our bullshit. And what I really mean is for me to overcome my bullshit.
~ Five years after my life was stolen from me, in a hotel room in Savannah, Georgia, I finally reclaim it
Forgiveness is a very abstract term. It doesn't erase the past. It's not a magical switch you can flip or a stained rug you can just turn over. It's merely a scar that covers the deep, dark gash that hate carved in your soul. ~
"This is full circle, Caleb. . . ."
In this book there was too much giggling. I loved the twists and turns and how all the characters were intermingled.
Among The Echoes
Riley & Slate
"Don't do this. Don't let this go because of who I am! " I shout at the closed door. "I'm not. I'm letting it go because of who I am,"
"I was thinking he made you smile and you weren't afraid of it. You acted like a woman instead of a piece of glass so shattered it would never be able to be pieced back together."
"Riley, I need you to be happy more than I need blood in my veins. I need redemption. I saw the way you looked at him and . . . "
" . . . You're an amazing person, Riley Peterson, and you are doing the entire world a disservice by keeping all of it to yourself."
~ But there is one emotion more powerful than any other-fear.
"Yeah, well. At least I'm not being creepy and sending him gifts all the time."
"Ah, yes. Stalking him from afar is so much less creepy."
"Riley, I'll never ask, but one day, you are going to have to tell me."
I don't respond because I have nothing to say. I can't tell Slate-ever. I just curl in even closer, lying with my body instead of my voice. Argh! The I can never tell story line. Not a fan. Don't characters ever learn that this is never a good idea. And always back fires.
"Jess, Slate." she sighs. "You know, for a quiet guy, you have deliciously filthy mouth."
~ I will find the real you among the echoes-and I will maker her mine."
Broken Course
I wasn't sure about this book, because Aly did such a great job letting us hate Sarah and feel all her torment. So, I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get past her wrong doings even though I understood why she made the crazy choices she did. But no other man could have loved Sarah other than Dave, who tries to see the best in everyone and has the most beautiful loyal heart.
"So. Sarah Erickson" One to ten on the creepy scale?" I change the subject back. "Twenty-nine," she answers frankly without a single beat. "I guess that's better than thirty." "It was a one-to-ten scale, jerk. Twenty-nine is terrible,"
"I changed my mind. Give me your control. Lose yourself in me." "I'm not sure I'd have any other choice."
"Jesus Christ. Suck my cock, Sarah," he orders. Knees. Hit. The. Floor.
"I'm only telling you this because, if you can't handle all that is Sarah Kate Erickson, I need you to leave . . . like, yesterday." Emma implores.
~ I know she wants to ask; I also know she won't. Yet another reason Sarah has me buzzing like a broken streetlamp. Aren't we just two of a kind? I don't ask questions because I don't want her to have to face her demons by answering. And I think she wants to avoid asking questions to keep me from reciprocating with my own inquiries. But then again, that might just be my reason too.
"So he knew some stuff about you. It sucks. And yes, he should have told you. But I don't think that makes him a liar any more than your not telling him makes you a liar."
"I don't care about your past," I whisper. "Then why do I have to care about yours?"
" . . . We might be a mess, but you're my mess, Sarah."
"Jesus, you people really keep it all in the family." "Right? That's what I said."
"Sarah, I'm going to be really honest here. I think you sound like a bitch who has her head stuck up her ass."
"You remember that day Collin was born. You gave me this whole speech about our lives coming full circle. Could this be the point that closes your own circle? You found a man who accepts you for exactly who you are. Now you just have to be willing to do the same."
"Jesus Christ, where the fuck did you come from? Does Emma know you get all deep like this?"
I've tried to read this three times now and just can't get into the story. It seems to have a great premise but the dialogue really lacked and the narrative want enough to save it for me
If you want a guy meets girl falls in love, gets married, has kids and lives happily ever after story.. This is NOT that story. When I 1st read the synopsis to the story I knew I just had to read it. I had a feeling it was going to be a different story then what I was use too. But, I wasn't prepared for what I was getting myself into. I can not begin to tell you how good this story is. There is so much different emotions going on in this. One minute I'm dying with laughter, the next I was crying.. Well, more like balling my eyes out.
Brett & Sarah meet at a bar. They fall head over heal in love with each other. Their best friends Caleb & Manda also fall in love with each other. Brett & Sarah get married. Thing's are great. Brett & Caleb are police officers. When they aren't working. The 4 of them are out hanging out and enjoying their life to the fullest. Until, the night that changed everything.
4 years later Brett & Caleb are still trying to pick up the pieces of their lives...
That's when we meet Jesse. She works at the coffee shop where the guys go and get their breakfast every morning. Jesse has such a crush on Brett. Every morning they flirt with each other like crazy. It's really cute to read. She finally gets the guts up to ask him out. Before he has the chance to say No. Caleb answers for him & he's forced to go.
When they have their 1st date Brett dropped a bomb that Jesse AND even me was not expecting. He was married!!! Except, not in the way we'd all think. Sara isn't the same woman you'd remember. She went from the happy go-lucky woman. Who's madly in love with Brett, to a shell of herself. Sarah hates Brett with everything she has. She hates herself even more. That night replays in her 24/7 & all she wants is it to end. Sarah wants Brett gone. Out of her life for good. Brett on the other hand, took his vows to heart, "In sickness & health. Till death do us part."
Jesse was shocked. When Brett saw her get upset it did something to him. It was then he realized he needed her in his life. They attempt the whole 'friend' thing. But, they both realize rather quickly that their friendship is a lot stronger. The feelings that they have for each other are not what they expected. Yet, every time they're together they ignore the tall, beautiful, blonde, crazy elephant in the room.
Brett realizes very quickly that Sarah wasn't the only one that died that terrible night 4yrs ago. They all did!! Except when he's around Jesse. He feels alive. He has starting to feel things that he hasn't felt since Sarah. Jesse knows that she is falling head over heals for Brett. But, knows that she must keep her heart guarded. Because, at the end of the day Jesse doesn't know if Brett can ever move on from Sarah. She dosen't just want to sit around and wait forever. Brett knows he must make a decision."
This is most definitely not your typical love triangle. Brett & Sarah are only married on paper. Brett & Jesse are falling harder & harder. Sarah is now on a mission. Make Jesse's life as miserable as possible. Caleb is the good guy. He wants Jesse to be safe. Wants Brett to move on. Wants Sara gone. When thing's take a turn for the worse. Brett must decide what & who he wants in his life. He needs to do what's best for everyone involved. That includes letting 1 of the 2 women he's ever loved go.
You will not be disappointed. For a debut novel Aly Martinez nailed it. I am really, really looking forward to read what she writes in the future!
STOLEN COURSE- ✯✯5 Huge Heart Breaking Stars!!✯✯
Aly Martinez has done it to me AGAIN !!! I was an absolute wreck from beginning to end of the book. Not that I was shocked by this. In her first book Changing Course we learned the 2 couples lives were changed forever! Brett & Caleb are police officers.Brett's wife Sarah & Caleb's fiance Manda were involved in a car accident. Sarah survived & Manda did not. We saw in Changing Course Brett moved on with Jesse. At the end of Changing Course Sarah went after Jesse. We ended it with Caleb carrying a broken Sarah out. It was there I knew I was in for it in Stolen Course . But, I was totally not prepared for what I got!!
We pick up exactly where we left off. Emma Jane Erickson who owns a photography business. Gets a call from her brother-in-law Brett. Not that it's out of the blue. He has been keeping her up to date on Sarah's life the past 5yrs. Emma is Sarah's little sister. Sarah has pushed everyone away including her sister. Now that Sarah has gotten herself into serious trouble Emma is on the 1st flight to her.
Caleb hates Sarah with everything he has. She killed the love of his life. He has spent the past 5yrs of his life doing the same thing. Working, going to the gym, having one night stand after the other, doing his woodwork in his garage. But, that's not the 2 most important things. He visits Manda's grave every day and every night he takes out the box in his closet. It has everything from that night. Caleb will do everything it takes to prove Sarah killed Manda.
Caleb broke my heart or I should say he shattered my heart into pieces. He's literally broken inside. Nothing helps him. I honestly don't think anything will heal him. Not even getting Sarah thrown in jail.
Caleb, Brett & Jesse are at the hospital waiting to hear news about Sarah. Then, walks Emma and Caleb's world is instantly turned upside down!! He's instantly attracted to her. Emma quickly makes the decision to move back & help Sarah. Caleb promises her he'd let her know if anything comes up with Sarah before she gets back.
Emma is home & she can't stop thinking about Caleb. Caleb is in the same boat. He can't stop thinking about Emma. Which is not Caleb!! Well, they start talking on the phone all the time. They totally have an instant connection. Which I really, really enjoyed. It was nice seeing Caleb smile & laugh. And, well enjoying life. He was totally not used to what was happening. It had been 5 long years since he felt anything but hatred!
Caleb picks Emma up at the airport. These 2 aren't out to the truck yet & already have World War 3. Why... Easy Sarah!! They realize rather quickly that Sarah is a VERY VERY sore subject. They agree to never talk about her. Which is hard for Emma. I couldn't imagine being in her shoes.
Brett & Jesse still had a good part in this book. Which I loved!! I love how Jesse & Emma became quick friends considering Emma's sister wanting to her Jesse. I loved when the 4 of them were together. Then, add in Kara and OMG you'll be peeing your pants!! I loved how Kara & Jesse got Emma up to speed on the "vegetable report" which by the way is absolutely hilarious!!! But, it was nice that even though Caleb was not there for her when it came to Sarah at all. I mean you can't mention her name without shit hitting the fan. Emma still had Jesse & Kara. Which was really awesome to see!!
Emma & Caleb are made for each other. Emma knows Caleb has a past and she accepts it. She knows he goes to Manda's grave everyday. She knows most of his body is tattooed in a memorial for her. Caleb;s heart is Manda's & Emma knows it. How she deals with it. The hell if I know!! But, Emma is awesome. Plain & simple.
Emma goes & sees Sarah weekly. Which is awesome because we learn exactly what is going on with Sarah. We find out why she pushed everyone away. There is literally so much we learn from the horrible night from everyone involved that my head literally spun & I gasped a lot.
Caleb & Emma get serious pretty quick. To the point that Caleb starts changing. And, in a good way!! Or so you think!! Emma accidentally finds the box. When she confronts Caleb he admits to still trying to find out the truth & still plans on taking Sarah down!
Emma leaves and Caleb is all alone. Again!! Who does he blame? Yup,you guessed it... Sarah.
Of course it doesn't end there. But, I will say A LOT, A LOT, A LOT, A LOT of stuff comes out after that. Good. Bad. Ugly. It all came out!!
Caleb also has to figure out what he wants. In order for him to be happy he needs to let a lot go. But, can he? Emma has to decide a lot of her own stuff out. What to do with Sarah. Can she forgive Caleb for how hes acted towards her sister. For not being there for her.
Aly hit a grand slam with this book!! She made you get attached to the characters. It didn't matter if they laughed, cried, got mad, smiled or were confused. Because whatever they did. Guess what... I did too!! Thanks for that Aly! I for one can not wait to see what happens next. I will tell you this. I know this book is considered a standalone. But, you totally must read Changing Course first!!
AMONG THE ECHOES ✯✯5 Heart Wrenching Stars!!✯✯
One day she was Erica, the next she was Riley. Forced to hide. To pretend. Constantly afraid. Always wondering if she'll be found. Never opening herself up to anyone. Protecting herself and everyone else.
Wow!! Aly Martinez has done it to me again!! I have loved every book she has written. Every book is better then the last. Among The Echoes was insanely awesome. It is emotional like her Wrecked and Ruined series. Except on a completely different level and for a completely different reason. There are a few authors who can write a book and I don't have to read the synopsis, because it doesn't matter to me. I say this because I know that because their name is on the cover it won't matter what the book is about, I'll love it regardless. Aly Martinez is one of those authors for me!!
Erica Hill is in a situation that NOBODY wants to be in. And, I mean NOBODY !! Just when she thinks she is going to die. Leo saves her life.
3 years later there is no more Erica Hill. Today it's Riley Peterson and her cousin Dave. Riley is a shell of who she used to be. Riley is afraid of every sudden noise, unexpected knocks on a door. Don't touch her. She doesn't sleep. The ONLY person she trusts is Dave.
Dave has it made it his life mission to protect & save Riley. Dave can not get over what happened to Riley. Deep down he wishes he could get her to smile. To get her to become the person she was before that horrible experience she went through. The experience he had to witness. He never thinks he'll be able to help her. That is until they got a new neighbor.
Slate Adam Andrews is the World Heavyweight Champion of the world. Slate loves fighting in the ring. But, he HATES everything that comes with it. He doesn't like the cameras, the paparazzi, the fans touching him. He stays secluded. When he finishes a fight he goes home to the only place he can be alone. The place that he can escape. Ohio.
Slate runs into Riley. I mean literally runs into Riley. They both freak. Slate thinks she will recognize him. Riley thinks that since Dave is out of town for a few days that Slate is there to kill her. Slate can tell right of the bat Riley doesn't know who he is. But still introduces himself as Adam. He can tell she's broken. Slate (Now Adam) instantly wants to protect Riley.
Adam is the first guy Riley has noticed in 3yrs. That night Riley gets scared and runs right to Adam for help. Dave comes home to find Riley & Adam sleeping oh the couch. it doesn't end too pretty. Dave knows instantly who Adam really is. Agrees to keep it a secret. Adam doesn't believe Riley & Dave's story. But, agrees to let them keep it.
Over the next few weeks Riley & Slate get closer and closer. Slate knows that Riley isn't telling him the truth. He begs her to tell him. But, he never pushes her. Which is seriously so damn sexy!! Riley has felt alive for the first time in a long time. She has always felt safe with Dave and nobody else. Now, she has Adam and feels safe. But, she is even more scared then before. She knows if they find her and Dave then Adam's life is in danger as well.
Dave keeps insisting that it'll workout. Dave desperately wants Riley to start living. Seeing her smile and laugh means the world to him. I loved their relationship. They understand exactly what the other one is fighting in themselves. They're each others only family. One minute they are going back & forth like brother and sister. The next Dave is putting away his "Man Card" to be Riley's girlfriend. Which is hysterical btw. No matter how often they fight. They would die for the other one.
One night Riley & Adam are talking. He decides it's time to tell her the truth. Well, he knew Riley was going to be mad. But, he wasn't expecting what he got. Riley realizes if she gets found Slate will die. She won't do it. Riley breaks up with him.
Slate knows it's time for a lifestyle change. After spending time in LA to change what he knows deep down he should of done awhile ago.
Slate comes back to Ohio. Back to Riley. He tells her he needs to know the truth about her and Dave. Dave talks Riley into telling Slate EVERYTHING !!!
Slate makes a point to letting Riley know he's not leaving. Dave and Slate make it their live to protect Riley. How?? Riley and Dave back their lives. Erica, Leo & Slate start new. Together!! Or is it??
There was so many times I couldn't believe what I was reading. Slate/Adam & Dave/Leo are the hottest, sexiest guys. Who love Riley and would do anything to protect her. To see her smile. It was really nice to see. Dave & Riley are so broken. They never recovered. I didn't think they ever would. Until Slate entered!!
There was times I'd be reading and find myself cheesing. Other times I'd find myself jumping if there was a sudden noise around me. Other times I was laughing so hard. Aly upped her game in this book. I loved everything about this book.
The ending definitely was one big SHOCKER to me!! I am honestly counting down to Aly's next book. I can't give anything away. Except there's a few people who need to be fixed. They must be healed from the inside.
BROKEN COURSE ✯✯6 Healing Stars!!✯✯
Aly Martinez has done it again!! She also made me go from hating a character to absolutely loving her! I mean I never hated Sarah as much as other people have, but she definitely wasn't my favorite. Leo as well I loved before. And, even now he is more sexier.
Now, before I even start I'm going to say that even though this is considered a standalone I would NOT read this book first!!
We meet Sarah in Changing Course . That book was about her husband Brett trying to save her. Sarah was in a terrible car accident that ended up killing her best friend Manda. After the accident Sarah was not the same person. She had a brain injury and was emotionally destroyed over killing her best friend. Sarah did terrible things to Brett and his new girlfriend.
Then, her story continued in Stolen Course with Caleb. He was engaged to her best friend. Caleb had it out for her. Caleb swore she killed Manda and made it his mission to destroy her. Until he met and fell in love with Sara's sister.
Leo. Oh Leo. We met him in Aly's other book Among The Ashes . He went from being an undercover police office to being in witness protection. Leo made the choice to save Erica's life. Now, they were in hiding. Until Erica fell in love. Leo and Erica's boyfriend Slate took matters in their own hands to get Erica & Leo's lives back.
Now, Leo can live his life the way he is supposed too. He opened up a bodyguard agency. Leo should be living his life. Except he still can not live with everything that had happened with Erica before he was able to save her. Leo suffers from depression & PTSD. Though you can't tell most of the time.
Fast forward 7 years and Sarah & Leo are meeting on a busy street corner and both their lives are changed. Sarah has not been with a man in 7yrs. Yet, she agreed to go out with Leo. Sarah is constantly over thinking everything. But, Leo never minds. Leo always knows what to say to Sarah to calm her down or make her see everything is going to be OK.
Then, Leo disappears for a few day and Sarah is pissed. She goes to Leo's and wasn't prepared for what she walking into. Leo in a dark bedroom laying under the covers. Leo begs her to go. But, Sarah being Sarah she doesn't go anywhere. That's when they both start to slowly realize that they were made for each other.
Both understood the other one. They knew when to push & when not to push. The things they get into are hysterical too. Overtime they learn that it's not about fixing each other. But, they are there to not let the other one fall and crumble. They seem to have things thrown in their faces just when they least expect it. But, as long as they are next to each other everything will be just fine. These 2 were also very hot! I mean their hottness was off the charts hot. *wink wink* When Leo started speaking Spanish I was done. Lol
I am very upset that this is the last book of the series. I loved all the characters from this whole series including Leo's book. And, was stoked when we got to see everybody. I was very glad with the relationship Caleb & Sarah got too. All the epilogue's where excellent as well too.
Aly left nothing open. She made you feel for Leo and Sarah and all their issues. Every time there was a flashback I found myself crying to laughing at the present. I'm really sad to say goodbye to this group of friends.
I love Aly's writing. I love the way she pulls me in and makes me flip through every last page until I hit the end. Her ends to each story were epic. This series was full of fantastic, extremely well developed characters. The sequence of the books was good although I faltered alittle with Among the Echoes. The placement of the story as 2.5 threw me off but by the end I understand why it was put there. It tied in Wrecked and Ruined with One the Ropes which was a fantastic touch if you asked me. Even though I'm not ready to leave this world, the final epilogue giving a brief glimpse at everyone was a great way to wrap it all up. If you skipped over this series and read On the Ropes.. GO BACK! Pick this series it. Its fantastic!
Great read! Even though it was a continuing story, each book was uniquely different and well told. I started with the first book & read all four in a row. Even though each book can be read as a stand alone, I always like to read the whole series starting with book one. There are details & connections made in each book that do carry onto the next one. It makes me feel closer to the characters when I get to know them from the very beginning. The last book, Susan & Leo’s story, was my favorite. It takes a lot to surprise me and this book kept them coming all the way to the end.
I got this box set because I had read the On The Ropes books and wanted to read Slate and Erica's story. I didn't love the first 2 books, the core storyline running through was great, but I did get frustrated with the main characters a lot. However I thought Amount The Echos and Broken Course were absolutely amazing!! I loved the characters, the plots were great with action and different twists and turns, great character development and super hot scenes.
Right from the beginning the story sucked me in. I loved Sarah and Brett. They seemed perfect together. My heart broke for Brett and his best friend Caleb after the accident. Caleb's fiancé, Manda died in the accident. She was also Sarah's best friend. It was shocking to have Sarah fall so far. I was also amazed at how supportive Brett was. It proves how much he loved her and didn't want to break their vows of for better or worse and sickness and health. There comes a point that you do have to move on especially given the situation he was in. Sarah didn't love him anymore. In comes Jesse. I liked her. She was so different from Sarah that at first I wasn't sure that she was right for Brett. He was so attracted to Sarah's bold, sexy confidence that I wasn't sure what he saw in Jesse because she was shy and insecure. But she was such a sweetheart and Brett had such a big heart that I began to see how he was drawn to that. This book definitely had a lot of feels. The angst became almost too much but it certainly made for a book that was hard to put down.
Oh Caleb! He is one damaged man. He loved Manda so much that even after 4 years he still can't fully move on from her. Her death consumes him and he still blames Sarah for the accident that killed his fiancé Manda and isn't afraid to tell anyone that she should have died instead. In comes Emma. She is a lot like her sister, the old Sarah. She is feisty, sexy and bold. When she comes back to town to help take care of Sarah, her and Caleb meet and the sparks fly. It was only obvious that the drama would be on overload between these two. Caleb hates her sister with a passion and Emma loves her and wants to see her heal. This relationship had angst written all over it. Then you add Caleb's feisty testosterone fueled anger and you have one hell of a ride. Emma is meek and shy either. She stands her ground and jumps in full force when Caleb loses his shit. I give Emma credit. She has a big heart. She fights to hold on to a relationship with Caleb even though his ghost of a fiancé has Caleb's heart. It's hard to compete with a dead woman. The thing is with Emma, she seems ok with being second choice. She respects the relationship he once had and encourages him to open up to about it. This was an emotional read for me. Although Caleb could be an ass I felt so bad for him. He's on such an emotional roller coaster with his love from the past but wanting a future with someone new. This book dives deep into tragedy, loss, death, friendship, moving forward and forgiveness. We get answers to what happened the night of the crash. We learn about Caleb and Manda's relationship. We see Sarah, with the help of Emma, finally begin to heal. Their lives will never be the same but there is hope for a future and maybe even a better one than they ever could have imagined.
Wow! This book was so good. This book had lots of suspense vs. the relationship drama of the first two books. The plot drew me in right away. All the characters were new and not from the other books. The first two books revolved around the car accident that changed the lives of four close friends. This is a story of Riley / Erica who went through a horrific event and is now living on the run under witness protection. She lives with Dave/ Leo who was the undercover agent that saved her that tragic night. They are constantly on the move not settling anywhere for long. When they arrive in Chicago to a new apartment Riley meets the new neighbor Adam / Slate. He is a pro boxer that likes to hide out during his down time. Sparks begin to fly between Riley and Slate but the secrets and lies threaten to separate them. Slate is an alpha male hero that will knock your socks off. He is everything Riley needs. It isn't until the epilogue that we see how this story connects with the others in the Wrecked and Ruined series. It leads us right into Sarah's story.
Sarah is the girl we all grew to hate. I absolutely loved her before the wreck but the new Sarah was damaged, bitter and broken. I knew she could redeem herself but I also new it would be a tough road to get there. In comes Leo. Leo was the ultimate badass in 'Among the Echoes ' it was obvious that he struggled with everything that happened with Erica but I didn't know the depth of that pain. Leo was just as damaged as Sarah he just handled it differently. He was this overprotective sexy good guy that I loved. Him and Sarah were perfect fit for healing each other. Of course the lies begin to build because neither wants to discuss their past. They live in the here and now. Eventually everything has to come out and it gets pretty ugly. This makes for the angst and drama that this series is best at. In the end everyone gets their HEA. We see all the characters from all the books in this one. It was nice to see how everyone was coping. This book brought everyone full circle and the tragedy that broke each character also brought them to the best future.
To me Ms. Martinez is one of the most underrated authors. Her work is amazing! She brings her characters to life and you feel as if you know them. She is one of my favorite authors and her beautiful novels are always go to rereads for me. If you have not read any of her good...why??? Do yourself a favor, get comfy and set in for amazing reads!!

4.5 stars. Reaaly loved this series. They were hot, sexy, steamy, emotional, dark, tragic with so much angst. Great cast of characters that were woven between all the books seamlessly. Great storyline, great characters.
I liked Leo and Sarah's story and Emma and Caleb's stories the best out of the series. Lots of angst and trying to deal with a tragic situation. It was really hard to like Brett in the last book with how he still treated Sarah.
Just another amazing series by Aly Martinez. Unpredictable, easy to read, wonderful characters, an unexpected roller coaster that make your eyes glued to the story. I totally recommend it. Aly Martinez never disappoint!!!! Another five stars!!!!!
