Having now read the first three volumes of Go Ikeyamada's bizarre soccer/cross-dressing/smut series (in French), I am totally hooked. This is despite the fact - or perhaps because of the fact - that it really is very silly. Midori, who grew up on a small island far from mainland Japan, used to play with a summer boy named Tsubasa, who taught her how to play soccer. When she was fifteen, he returned and convinced her to have sex with him...only for her to discover that he had a bet with his buddies that he could seduce the dumb island girl. Enraged, Midori vows to go to Tokyo and beat him at the game he taught her - soccer. So she chops off her hair, bleaches the resulting pixie cut, calls herself a boy, and enrolls in his rival school. Sadly, Midori is the absolute least convincing boy in all of cross-dressing manga...though that's not why her new teammate Kazuma finds her out. No, that would be her habit of hanging out in the buff eating dried squid. In any event, as of volume three Midori is caught in a love triangle between Kazuma (nice guy) and Tsubasa (ass), with several hot-and-heavy make out scenes between her and the latter. This worries me, because I'd really like Ikeyamada to buck the shoujo trend and have Midori end up with Kazuma...In any event, this is a fun, goofy series from Sho-Comi's smuttier days. If you just want something to breeze through without having to think, give it a try.
