A tiny island makes millions of dollars out of thin air. How? A deadly weapon got its name from a common fruit. Which? A world-famous genius blundered like the rest of us. Who? These are not made-up stories; they are odd little facts about things and people you already know! Once you find the answers to these, you’ll go, ‘What the … WHAT?!’ Nipun and Mohit, the brains behind Arey Pata Hai – the channel that made curiosity cool – are your guides through this book. Expect fascinating trivia, bizarre facts, and their trademark ‘questionable’ jokes. Read it front to back or back to front or jump from one page to another; this book is for the endlessly curious … yeah, even your cat!
Last book of ’25 or first of ’26 had to be special.
A quick story: almost half a year ago, I started following AreyPataHain because of my husband’s love for quizzes. Through him, I discovered many such channels, but what stood out to me about Nipun and Momo was how inclusive their quizzing felt. They make questions for everyone, turning quizzing into something so easy, exciting, and welcoming, even for those of us who don’t consider ourselves very knowledgeable.
So when they launched their first book, I knew I had to get it.
And unsurprisingly, it turned out to be the most fun and exciting book I’ve completed till date. I was genuinely sad when it ended, but then I remembered I could always go back to their channel.
The questions, trivia, crosswords, earning totems, QR codes leading to even more trivia; everything is so thoughtfully put together. I honestly feel I learned more from this book than I did the entire year.
Please make many more books, you two. I’ll happily be your pre-orderer again and again.
Stepping into this new year with more knowledge, and an even bigger appetite for it. ✨
Perhaps the very first review of WTW on goodreads. I'll try to do good then.
What the what ?! a trivia book written by Nipu and Momo, the creators of a youtube channel 'Arey pata hai' where they play quizzes and puzzles. It would be injustice to call this book just a trivia book. it's a book that is funny, witty, yet very simple in terms of giving us interesting facts and figures in most playful way possible. Unlike other books, it asks you questions instead of just giving you the facts directly. (special mention for the titles of each GRILLS) The book is divided into different categories, like literature and fiction technology. Art. history Inventions etc.
What makes this book different is along with trivias, it lets you play a very unique and different type of puzzles like Quizzingo, where you make a bingo, but with question answers (most fun in 2 players) String theory which in my opinion, the most interesting game, anyone could ever think of, also the conventional crossword. They have also placed some QR codes from where you can directly go to the channel and watch some other fun trivia, which they could not write due to limitation of length.
But what makes it very unique is this book? It hides within itself a treasure hunt. The missing page number 79. The readers have to find the clues and Then, using those cluesThey have to reach the ultimate prize. Which i haven't reached yet.
All in all this book does a very good job to rekindle your curiosity about almost everything, makes your inner child ask curious questions, makes you ponder about many things, and obviously makes you say - What the WHAAAT. !!?
As a self-proclaimed nerd, with many pop-ins of “Oh, did you know?” which my loved ones can find equal parts endearing and irritating (depends on who you ask), picking up ‘What The..What?!” was one of the more delightful things I did at the end of 2025.
Nipun Jain and Mohit Mamoria are more than just content creators; they are curious storytellers who have turned India’s love for trivia into a shared, joyful obsession. As the minds behind Arey Pata Hai, the country’s biggest quizzing channel, the duo has made learning feel playful, accessible, and delightfully addictive. Now, they bring that same infectious energy to the page with their debut book What the…What?!
Framed as a conversation between the two creators and guided by Psyfur the cat, the book moves away from rigid quiz formats to turn every question into a story, complete with bizarre facts, sharp humour, and vibrant illustrations by Parth Verma. Written with heart, it captures their journey from leaving conventional careers to building a community powered by curiosity—and invites readers to rediscover the simple thrill of puzzling things out together. I had the great opportunity to sit down for a virtual interview with Nipun and Mohit, and here is what we discussed: https://www.youthkiawaaz.com/2026/01/...
What if I asked you questions like: “Chicken or egg — what came first?” “Why is the Mona Lisa so famous?” Or “Why don’t we like the sound of our own voice?”
Most of us have surely wondered about these and many similar questions at least once in our lives. We’ve probably even tried finding their answers, but often without coming across a reliable or satisfying source.
“What The… WHAT?” does exactly that—and in the most fun way possible. The book answers such intriguing questions not only through engaging explanations, but also via quizzes and pictorial formats that make learning truly enjoyable.
I honestly loved each and every page of this book. What impressed me the most was how completely it kept me engaged from start to finish.
Kudos to Nipun Jain and Mohit Mamoria for the tremendous effort they’ve put into creating this book—I absolutely loved it.
This is a sureshot pick for your next game night, a great source of fascinating questions and answers, and definitely a book that deserves a place on your bookshelf.
This book made me feel smarter, completely mind-blown, and honestly… I just wanted more.
I finished What The What?! in a single day, spread across two or three sittings, because it was impossible to put down. It’s the perfect blend of a readable book and a playable experience—you’re not just reading pages, you’re actively participating. That balance is what makes this book so special.
One of my favourite things is how it never feels like a typical quiz or trivia book. Instead, it feels like Nipu and Momo are on an adventure with Psyfur, and what we’re holding in our hands are their notes. The conversational format (including text-message style sections) genuinely makes it feel like the authors are talking directly to you. Their personality, humour, and curiosity flow seamlessly from their videos onto the page.
The games were easily my favourite part—they were incredibly fun and creative, often breaking the fourth wall and pulling the reader straight into the action. But that doesn’t mean the rest of the book falls short at all. The questions, explanations, and especially the design are beautifully done. The layout is so visually satisfying that it adds to the joy of reading—seriously, hats off to the design team.
Some standout features that really impressed me:
QR codes that take you to more trivia in video form, extending the experience beyond the book
Multiple interactive games that you actually play, not just read about
Dedicated note pages at the end, so you can jot things down and revisit them later—without falling into an endless internet rabbit hole
And then there’s the mystery. A specific mystery connected to Page 79 runs through the book, and while I haven’t solved it yet, the best part is that the entire reader community is trying to crack it together. That shared curiosity and collective puzzle-solving makes the book feel alive even after you’ve finished reading it.
This was my first trivia book, and I honestly couldn’t have asked for a better introduction. It’s the kind of book that makes you excited to explore more trivia while still enjoying fiction alongside it. It’s also perfectly balanced—never too simple, never too complex—making it enjoyable for readers of all ages.
I would absolutely pick this book up again, whether to reread sections or just flip through it for fun. It’s engaging, thoughtful, and driven by pure curiosity.
If you’re curious by nature, this book is for you. And if you’re looking for a gift that’s genuinely fun, different, and memorable—this is a perfect choice.
'What the What?!' is a fun, curiosity-driven quiz book. I like how the format seems like it was made for people with wandering attention spans. With different segments, it is the perfect amalgamation of puzzles, history, science and crazy facts that will make you say "wait…...what?!". This is the perfect book to bring to game nights or to gift to a friend who loves trivia.
Takes you back to the days of Quiz Time. This is a very engaging read, where fun and facts unfold together in a really satisfying way. The experience is very similar to how they run things on their YouTube channel.
