This was a good book but dry and boring the majority of the time. For example, when reading about St. Dominic, there was no mention of the rosary. How can you leave that out?

Highly recommended for anyone wanting to get familiar with the saints again, or as a starting point for more research. The set was $16 at a small used book store in Florida. Enjoy!

A great devotional tool for those looking to align their lives more with the liturgical calendar of saint feasts, and to further grow in love with the saints.
Small nit picks I have:
1. There are some excerpts which will question traditional beliefs on the date of a saint's life or death, activities attributed to them, the traditional date of the feast on the calendar, etc. This makes one think that the author is ashamed of the faith and the belief of Holy Mother Church. This is not good to instill in a young reader.
2. The older 1-volume edition published in 1955 would use the collect prayers from the mass for the saint of the day. This one uses a more simplified prayer at the close of each saint's story which cuts back on "controversial" language. This again ties to the issue of the author seeming ashamed of the faith.
3. Some of the art in this edition and it's second volume reeks of that fantastical aesthetic of the 70s and 80s, and can be distracting when compared to the more gentle reverent art of the older editions.

This overall remains *the* edition to have to remain in congruency with the modern calendar, but at times it really is challenging when the nitpicks made above start to show out to you.

The Saints are written here in short encyclopedic fashion. I'd hoped for a more colorful view of each. It is a nice start (and peek) into that world, but it leaves me wanting. I do not believe the book is all inclusive (perhaps that's impossible). Further, I yearn for a more personable voice on the matter of Saints.

Short biographies of the saints telling what led to them becoming saints and what they are the saints of as well as who is your patron saint I think. I haven't read this one in a while. I really liked this one.

I Love This Book Because It Tells Me about the saint or martyr for that day, and that's who I could pray to during my daily prayers. It really helps me learn about saints I didn't even know existed.
