Beg for Me

Niko
I spent my time lurking in the shadows, watching over her from a safe distance. Even when she didn't know I was there, I was protecting her, no matter the cost.
The night we met at Club Ghost only deepened my obsession.
After months of hiding in plain sight, watching, waiting, aching for her, she was finally going to be mine.

Lila
A night out, trying to rid the dark thoughts from my mind, one moment single-handedly ruined it. Until my knight in dark armor came to my rescue, giving me hope that decent men still existed.
That is, until I saw what was really lurking in the shadows.
It wasn't a monster that you see in your nightmares, all dressed up in blood and gore.
It was him.

I say this with the utmost respect and love... B*TCH WHERE IS BOOK 2?! How you gonna do that to me? If you love yourself, you'd read this. Hell, if you hate yourself you'd still read this. I am so proud of River and how far they've come since their first book.

WTF

Okay this was so good! I was in the mood for some dark stalker romance and let me tell you, this hit the spot. Super unhinged and honestly, I’m at a loss for words! Lila and her stalker were HOTTTTTT! Like I couldn’t get enough. The build up, fear and deranged behavior really knocked it out the park.

First off I have to say with the most utmost respect.🫣 What the FUCK?😱 Why would you just leave us hanging like that?🤨 OMG... I did not expect that ending. Holy shit!!! What is up with that character? Who is he?🤔

Ok, so when I read a book I always see two parts of the story. There's the back story and the main event, if you will. My favorite part is the back story because it tells us what led up to the main event. How our characters were molded into the adults they became to be for the main event or shall we say present day?🧐

Our Fmc is named Lila, she's independent, she's a curvy woman who has self esteem issues due to her upbringing. Her father left when she was young (4 years old) and her mother blamed her, Lila for it so she, Lila was abused mentally and emotionally for him leaving and because she was a bigger size than her mother liked.

Niko is our mmc. Niko briefly stalks Lila. During the time that he is stalking her he becomes obsessed with her and kidnaps her and locks her in a room in his home. The home he takes her to happens to be the home he inherited from his abusive father when he disappeared. Niko has suffered physical, emotional, and mental pain from his father's constant abuse while growing up. His father used to beat him on a regular basis.

I almost forgot there are a few side characters. Casey, which is Lila's best friend. There is Daniel, which is Lila's ex-boyfriend, and Lila's father. There is also mention of a couple others but nothing significant.

Both our fmc and mmc only craved love from their families when they were young and they were both denied and add in all the abuse and neglect it has shaped them into the present day/main event adults.

I want to say yes/no as to my recommendation of this book. It is an interesting read that is left on one hell of a cliffhanger. I feel like there is A LOT of sex for it being such a short book. I feel like it had very little stalking. I just felt like it needed a little something more, and then BOOM🤯 the end happens with the perfect ending🤗... That's why I'm so torn🫣.

You definitely have to be 18+ to read it. There is 🔪knife🔪play, blood licking 🤢,🔨murder🪏,🪏talks about chopping up bodies 🪚,death☠️, stalker, kidnapping, very spicy 🥵🥵🥵.

Such a delicious taste of gore combined with a great amount of spice for a well-balanced meal of a novella. Gardner steps into the realm of dark romance with ease, gifting us with a storyline that grasps you from the start and doesn’t let up from that chokehold it put you in until the end. Then, it squeezes tighter with that cliffhanger that leaves you wanting… no… needing more. Just like Lila panted for Niko to give her more in that bedroom. *wink wink*

*spoilers*

Lila is loving the free life she has been longing for. Away from her abusive and incoherent mother who would put her down due to her size. Away from the father that abruptly left their family so he could make another with another woman. Away from everything dreadful. Until unwanted hands touched her at the club, leaving her feel vulnerable.

That is, until the unwanted hand showed up, severed, and wrapped in a nice, delicate box. Now, at first, it was a horrific sight. Even staying with her best friend after having police officials called out for it. But when she meets the man behind the mask, she may not want to leave his sight.

But her friend is worried that something bad might have happened. Worried that she just up and disappeared from her place without a text. Without a call. And that’s out of Lila’s character. And when they do meet up again and Lila introduces her to Niko, she knows that’s the man that had sent her the severed hand and kept her captive. She’s weary of him. Of his actions. Like a good best friend should be.

This is a dark stalker romance with moderate gore and a lot of spice. I mean, it’s heavy on the spice including some knife play scenes that will have you on the edge of your seat. I absolutely love seeing more plus sized FMC being presented and the relationship built between the two may have been forced at the beginning, but after opening up to each other over their past trauma, I think they just might belong to each other. But lord! That ending had me gasped. That Cliffhanger. I need to know what’s going to happen next immediately.

“I want you, I want all of you. I want your love, your hate, your desire, your anger, I want every dark twisted part of you”
That line was everything! 🖤
I was lucky enough to be able to ARC read Beg for Me by River Gardner and honestly like where do I begin and I mean that in the best way.
This is a dark romance horror novella and when I say River delivered, she DELIVERED!
It follows Lila, a plus size FMC who struggles with her self esteem after growing up in a mentally abusive, toxic home, and Niko her stalker, who also comes from a seriously messed up and abusive past. Niko is obsessed with Lila, and when I say he has “touch her and die” energy, BOOOYYY he does not play about her…at all!
This is definitely horror romance, so expect blood, gore, and the SPICE 😳 OMG!! The blood play, the knife play… it was one of those “I know I probably shouldn’t like this, but I absolutely do” situations.
There are definitely some potential triggers in this one (blood/knife play, kidnapping, mentions of child abuse, and more), so make sure to check the full trigger list before going in.
But what really got me was how well everything came together the horror, the romance, the spice, the backstory. It’s hard to explain, but it definitely pulls you in and keeps you there. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer because I’m fully invested at this point and already need book two. And Niko 😉
River Gardner really hit this one out of the park. I’ve already read it twice and could easily read it again. I loved it, it was a 5/5 ⭐️ for me!

I knew this was going to be a wild ride and it absolutely delivered.

This is full on horror romance with the spice dial turned all the way up. It’s fast paced, bloody, and completely unapologetic about what it is. If you’re into darker kinks, this book does not hold back. There’s knife play, blood, and a whole lot of intensity woven into the story.

The horror elements are just as strong as the romance. It’s brutal, visceral, and doesn’t shy away from the darker side of both love and violence. And while I’m not usually big on trigger warnings, this one has quite a few so definitely know what you’re walking into and buckle the fuck up.

The ending? An absolute cliffhanger in the best way. The kind that leaves you desperate for what comes next. Shove me right over that edge.

I really liked Lila as a character, and her struggles hit on something real, especially the way women are made to feel about their bodies, often by the people closest to them. That part added an emotional layer that grounded all the chaos. And honestly…fuck both Lila and Niko’s families.

This novella is horror romance at its most unhinged.

Beg for Me is a fast-paced, brutal horror romance that pulls no punches. Without spoiling anything, the story follows Lila as she’s thrown into a dark, dangerous situation where obsession, violence, and desire blur together, forcing her to confront both her fear and her deepest wants.

This book was pure escapist fun for me. The writing was sharp and engaging, the pacing felt spot-on, and the blend of horror and romance worked incredibly well. I especially loved Lila. She is self-conscious, curvy, and deeply human, and the way Niko absolutely adored her added an indulgent, fantasy-driven edge to their dynamic. While I did feel that Lila fell for Niko a bit too quickly, given the circumstances, I was more than willing to forgive it because this book leans fully into dark romance. Overall, a quick, spicy, intense, and addictive read that delivered exactly what it promised.

I was given a copy of the book to beta-read from the author.

Beg For Me by River Gardner is a romance-horror novella with dual POVs from Lila and Niko, and it had me hooked from the blurb alone. I’m always here for a dark romance...bonus points for a slow-burn, dark-haired, slightly unhinged stalker love interest and this delivered on that front. I also loved seeing a plus-size FMC—always appreciated and nicely done.

But where this book truly shines is the horror. The horror elements are brutal, visceral, and unapologetically bloody. River does not pull punches, and the gore is effective, well-placed, and genuinely unsettling. Easy 10/5 for me!

The romance takes a bit to fully click for me. I could feel it more strongly later in the story, but early on it felt slightly underdeveloped (personal preference more than a dealbreaker). And the spice? Excellent. The intimate scenes were hot, confident, and memorably deviant, especially one about three-quarters of the way in that absolutely deserves a moment of silence.

That ending, though? I need a follow-up.

"When I started falling for my captor, the man who had murdered more people than I could keep track of, I knew I was well and truly fucked."

I don't know what it says about me that hearing this quote made me want to read this book, but here we are and I'm not mad about it.

• touch her and die
• stalker/captive
• he's obsessed
• plus size FMC

This book was a gory, wild ride and I love that the author didn't hold back on the horror aspect. The spice was spicy and we have a couple of scenes with a special little guest.

I wasn't the biggest fan of how quickly she fell for him and kind of disregarded her BFF but hey, it worked for the story. Also, some of the spice felt a little repetitive but an Os an O. Get it, girl.

Overall, this was a fast-paced and fun dark romance novella perfect for kicking off a month of love stories. This book left me hanging on a cliff and I hope more is on the way to pull me back up. Thank you to the author for allowing me to read and review.

This is the third novella I’ve read by River, and this one was definitely my favorite! Thankful I got the chance to read this as an ARC prior to release. This was dark and twisty and super bloody. The fmc is a curvy queen who has had some past trauma, and the mmc is an obsessive love boy who will give her her deepest desires. A little murdery and some questionable stalkerish moves, but overall we love him. 🥰😂 I was definitely expecting something else at the end, but I like the cliff hanger knowing there will have to be a sequel! I want to know what will happen with the mmc because I feel like the police will have to come for him at some point when they inevitably place him as a person of interest for some of the murdery things he got up to. I also really thought Vince would have made a good love interest for Casey, and a way to tie them all together, but the ending makes me think that won’t be happening now lol. Will be looking forward to book 2!

A Review of Advance Copy Received from the Author

I'm a newbie to River Gardner's work, so I honestly didn't know what to expect, but she crushed it! Beg For Me is a devastating masterpiece

It's a dual POV novella that's gripping and fast-paced. The story is dark and gritty, the trauma themes hit hard, making the story feel heavy and real. The author didn't pull any punches delivering a brutal and bloody dark romance.

Lila is the plus size FMC that likes watching horror movies for the adrenaline rush and hates being the center of attention.

Niko is the possessive "professional follower" who thinks knives are the best accessory.

This slow burn goes beyond the standard spice. It's high-stakes heat driven Niko whose obsession with Lila is intense, unapologetic and borderline unhinged.

If you're looking for a "safe" read, this isn't it. It's vicious, unapologetic and hauntingly real. I can't wait to read the next book!!

This book made me realise that I have a thing for major red flags, because I am obsessed and on my knees for Niko, so bad!!!

Beg For Me is a wonderfully dark read and I absolutely loved it! Fast paced, brutal and pitch black! Gardner's writing style is addicting and sucks readers in from the very beginning. River has written their main character's with such dept that you feel so deeply for them. I couldn't put it down and I will never ever forgive the author for that ending, I am on the EDGE OF MY SEAT!

A dark romance horror written so well that it will leave you questioning yourself and why you're enjoying the most darkest scenes *cough* blood and knife play *cough*

Dark, smutty and horrific in all the best ways!! I need book two now because I'm obsessed!

Thank you so much to the author for an arc of Beg For Me! All opinions and views are mine and have been left voluntarily.

Thank you for this advanced copy for this review.

Beg for me by River Gardner is a dark romance novella. It features Niko the obsessed stalker Who can’t get Lila out of his mind. Lina is a sweet FMC. Who’s had a hard life and doesn’t let her true feelings show until she meets Niko. The chemistry between the two is so intense. Niko is willing to do anything to make Lila happy and stay by her side.

but is killing others really worth the cost?

I loved this novella. It was so dark, spicy and I can’t believe the ending.
Lila is such a sweet person. I felt for her cause I have been through something similar and did the same thing she did to cope with the pain. Niko.. is really messed up but I thought with everything he was doing to make her happy and safe I felt was sweet in its own twisted way. The ending left me speechless and I want to know what happens next.

That ending? I’m officially mad! 😤 Need the next one now! 🫠

This is a story where you know it's wrong, but somehow your girl is thriving on it 😂🤣

He's dangerous. She knows it. She shouldn't feel safe. Being with him shouldn't feel like home. But for the first time, she didn't feel like she had to hide herself. He made her feel seen and unafraid, even when everything else was chaos 🖤

A lot happens in this book that's definitely not for the weak-stomached. Picture: eye socket, Sawzall, dirty sock. Yep... that's not even all 😵‍💫 And somehow... your girl smiled through the horror 😈

A 5☆ read. Go ahead, meet your obsessed stalker... 💀

Everything one could want from a twisted Dark Romance, executed brilliantly. Steamy, passionate erotic fantasy and creative, brutal, visceral imagery all blended together, sometimes simultaneously, to perfection. The book's structure keeps the pace tight and interesting, switching between the perspectives of captor and captive at pitch perfect intervals, offering plenty of both sides of this provocative tale. Mix that with a relatable protagonist and an opposing figure compelling in his mystery, and you have a book that is tough to put down, very satisfying to read, and leaves you Begging for more.

Don't let this cute cover fool you, because the contents sre anything but cute.

"To all the women who wonder why their husbands/boyfriends haven't cut off a man's hand for touching you; this one is for you"

Niko is obsessive, possessive, and a tad bit manipulative. He definitely uses Lila's trauma to make her fall madly in love with him. While I do think there was chemistry between them, Niko didn't give Lila a choice. I love a possessive man, and this one is a bit unhinged 🤭

It's not very often that a scene in a book surprises me, but this one got me! My jaw was dropped during the shampoo bottle scene 😅

Thank you to the author for a copy of this book!

ARC Review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This one is dark, vicious, and doesn’t pull a single punch. A brutal horror dark romance that’s fast paced, bloody, and emotionally raw. The trauma themes hit hard, and the inner pain woven through the story makes everything feel heavier and real.

Niko and Lila bring serious heat, but it’s not just spice it’s obsession, protection, and intensity wrapped in violence and fear. I loved seeing a plus-size FMC in this story and how Niko helps her build the confidence that was taken from her when she was younger.

If you like your romance twisted, graphic, and drenched in horror, this novella delivers.

Now and then, I like to read dark romance, but horror romance? Even better!

In Beg For Me, we follow Lila, who not only had a pretty rough childhood, but is now being stalked.
After receiving a severed hand as a gift, she decides to get away with her best friend, and little does she know her life is about to be taken by storm by a man who is completely obsessed with her.

This is a very graphic read that combines the best of both worlds, with both the gore and the spice, backed up by characters filled with emotion and trauma who deal with pain as best they can, even if it means inflicting it on others.

All in all, Beg For Me is fast paced, unhinged, and it will leave you wishing for a sequel.

UHM HI where is book 2??? I wasnt aware of the cliffhanger at the end and omg i wasnt prepared AT ALL!!! This book was cool, like I love a good stalker story. I also really like when someone calls it out as stockholm syndrome instead of just pretending that this is normal!!! I'm actually so interested in whats going to happen in book 2 especially in regards to Casey feeling that way!

I wish a man wanted to hurt people who hurt me to make me happy 💅

This has been one of my favorite reads as of late!

The back and forth between Niko and Lila was adorable. Niko was truly just infatuated with her & he did what he deemed necessary to prove he was worth her time. How sweet!

A lot of spice, plenty of stalking and of course… stabby-stabs galore! (G0re is mentioned, check triggers!)

I wasn't really sure what to expect with this book when I first started it, obviously I knew that blood, blood play and knife play as well as other triggering subjects would be active in the story but I didn't expect Stockholm syndrome to be a part of the storyline.

I found this book captivating and finished reading it in one evening, if you enjoy dark romance and like short novels this one is for you, but do prepare yourself for traumatic scenes and read it when you are in a good mindset.

I received a free copy of this book and am posting this review voluntarily.
