EXPECTING TROUBLE was okay. It lacked in the romance department while the mystery behind who hired who and who’s to trust, bloomed.

Agent Cal Rico is on his way to a promotion two years earlier than normal when he’s called into his superior’s office about heiress Jenna Laniere. Cal and his team extracted Jenna about a year ago in a case surrounding her criminal ex-boyfriend.

He’s shocked when he’s told Jenna listed him as the father of her 3 month old daughter, Sophie. Although there was definitely a spark between them when they met, nothing happened. As it’s a rule not to get involved with people in their custody, Cal faces major loses over this new information.

He tracks Jenna down to confront her on her accusation. However, what he finds is a scared woman with a daughter to protect from the high paid men to kill/kidnap them. Naming him the father was the only way to keep back the people who will go after Sophie.

Before long, Cal isn’t risking only his career to protect these two females who makes him want to risk everything, including his heart and life.

The detailed plot behind going after Sophie and Jenna is one I’m not sure about. It took away from the story and didn’t give the characters enough time to have interactions. I didn’t feel the love between Cal and Jenna.

In the end, the bad guys are captured, names are cleared of suspicions, and Jenna is official out of team’s custody, leaving her free for him pop the question.

4.90 STARS Overall.

He was her knight in green camouflage, He rescued her from a marriage proposal gone wrong in Monte De Leon. The man she thought she had been dating, didn't exist. He wanted her business for bringing things in to the US. She said no, planned to go home, but Paul was killed and now they were going to kill her. Then he came to her rescue, and from that day forward her life changed forever!

She was in his dreams, he couldn't help but think of the woman who got to him like no other ever had. They were together for such a short time, and yet he knew how brave she was to walk away from the guy who attempted to force her to marry him. He tried calling a few times. Only to hang up. Except for a month ago, he left a message. More to warn her that there had been chatter about the circumstances she had been in, in the prior year. But he would be lying if he said he hadn't thought of asking her to dinner. But she never returned his call.

She was being stalked by Paul's best friend, Holden Carr. She escaped and moved to a new town, couple hours away from where she had lived, and now she was in a tiny apartment, continuing to look over her shoulder knowing that one day they may find her and discover she produced an heir. But after a trip to the clinic for her daughter, Holden called demanding to know why she didn't tell him about the baby.

Having listened to his message recently, all she could do was to name that He was the father. No one was going to take her baby away from her.

She wanted to call him back when he phoned, but all she could do was play it back whenever she was scared, when she was hurting or lonely. She never expected to see him standing there in front of her at the grocery store. She never thought she ever see him again.

He said he was suprrised to hear he fathered a baby when he hadn't even gotten the chance to kiss the mother when he wanted to.

Confused, she asks, How? He said, my commanding officer sat me down and mentioned how we had a baby.

She knew he was only here to get to the bottom of why she mentioned that. He wasn't staying. He had a career to protect, she didn't get to be a person he rescued this time.

He knows he'll do whatever it takes protect her and her baby. Even if he doesn't get to ever take her out on a date, or the real father to her child, but He'll do what he needs to protect them.

He is Cal Rico, agent with the ISA, father of Sophie and in love with her mother.

She is Jenna Laniere, heiress, owner of a large company, mother to Sophie and in love with the man who saved her, the real father to her daughter Sofie.

I liked this story. While it had a lot going on, i understood the roles people played. They all weaved together, their stories intermingling yet the main story was still on Cal protecting, and falling in love with Jenna & Sophie

I liked her strength, she was back-up to Cal up when he needed It. I liked that he was willing to stand up to his boss. And I loved how they finally gave in and knew they were meant to be together. Mother and Father to Sophie. Lover to one another.

Hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did. This is one I will enjoy reading again very soon, and will definitely be in my favorites!

This book started out intense as Special Agent Cal Rico with the U.S. International Security Agency Rescued Jenna from her hotel. The hotel was surrounded by rebel soldiers. Jenna had flown to Monte de Leon to see her boyfriend Paul. When Paul asked her to marry him is when things went bad. She said no, and he slapped her. No one would give her a ride to the hotel, so she walked 2 miles. She called for a taxi to take her to the airport, and 8 hours later she was still waiting on that taxi. Armed men were looking for her, and she knew she didn't have much time left. She was both shocked, and relieved that Cal crashed through the window of her hotel to save her.
Fast forward a little over a year later, and Cal is there rescuing both Jenna, and her daughter in a small Texas town. This part of the story there is a lot of suspense, and action. It was hard to tell who was after Jenna. There were several suspects. Jenna had told everyone Cal was the father of her child. She didn't intend to get him into trouble. Cal had drove to the small Texas town to confront Jenna on the lie, after his boss wanted answers. His boss knew it was Cal that rescued Jenna a year ago. It is frowned on, for any agent to have sex with anyone in their protective custody. Cal swears he never touched Jenna. Cal is up for a promotion, and this lie could ruin his career.
Paul stated in his will if he had any children when he died, the person that killed Jenna would get his inheritance, and the child. Paul did die, so emails were being sent from Paul's attorney to several suspects. This kept the story interesting. You didn't know where the next attack would come from, or who was behind it. Jenna, and Cal couldn't trust anyone. Cal came to Jenna for answers, but there was no way he could turn his back on mother, and daughter when they needed him the most. It was funny how scared Cal was to hold the baby in the beginning. The man was not scared of anything, or anyone, but was scared of hurting a tiny little baby. I loved how the little girl wormed her way into Cal's heart.
Loved this book!

Since I DNF, I won't give a star rating. I got about 24% into the book and literally could not make myself keep reading. Nothing about any of the characters seemed realistic, and the whole "bad guys want me for my accounting firm!" was one of the most idiotic premises I've ever read. Seriously, there were way easier ways for the criminals to launder money, not least of which would have been bribing some other accounting firm into doing it for them. They didn't need to target some heiress accountant firm owner, bribe people to figure out her menstrual cycle (and why the hell would her effing assistant have known that?! Butt even better, why would they have remembered it after being fired if they had known?!), then drug her and date rape her to get her pregnant and then eventually kill her. This seems like the kind of scheme a Scooby-Doo bad guy would come up with, not some International Criminal: infinitely full of holes, overly convoluted, and eventually unmasked with minimal effort.
