I did not, at any point, believe this spell would produce a demon.
I was halfway through summoning a mild-mannered demon when I'm interrupted by a demon roughly ten times its size—with nothing “mild” about him. Apparently there’s a coven across town with no self-control and a truly appalling wish list, and he is desperate to avoid being dragged back into their ritual.
According to him, the only way he can get a moment’s peace tonight is if I bind him to my soul with a bargain. Which would be fine—except I cannot, for the life of me, think of a single thing I want.
Unfortunately, he takes one look at me—a woman too horny to function—and informs me he already knows exactly what I’m trying not to ask for.
THE DEMON’S PREY THING is a darkly funny, romance erotica where following instructions don't matter because demons do whatever they want anyway and the protector becomes the predator. Each book in the Protector to Predator series is a standalone monster romance and can be read in any order.
From the first page, Roxanne stole my heart. She’s clever, chaotic, and very much the kind of woman who was trying to summon something small and manageable… and instead ends up with Astothar, a towering, sinfully sharp-edged demon who absolutely did not come with the user manual she expected. Their accidental meet-cute? More like meet-catastrophe—and I loved every second.
What makes this story shine is how hilariously relatable Roxanne’s predicament is. Not the demon part (sadly), but the frantic inner turmoil of wanting something so badly you can’t say it out loud. Roxanne, a self-proclaimed “too horny to function” woman, is doing mental gymnastics to pretend she's not thinking about the enormous, dangerous, unfairly gorgeous demon in her living room. And Astothar… oh, he knows. He absolutely knows. And watching him smirk his way through her denial is its own wicked delight.
But underneath the snark, the sexual tension, and the magical mayhem, there’s something tender—two beings who both desperately want the same thing but are terrified to speak it into existence. The moment you realize that all she wants is him, and all he wants is her, the story slips from funny and delicious to unexpectedly soft and swoonworthy.
This book feels like catching feelings you didn’t plan on, wrapped in dark magic, sharp horns, and the sweetest slow-scorch romance. It’s messy in the best way. It’s hot without apology. And it has a heart that beats louder than any demon’s roar.
If you love paranormal romance with humor, heat, and characters who fall for each other long before they admit it, The Demon’s Prey Thing is a spell you’ll be happy to get caught in.

The final D&D girlie is about to meet her match and Roxanne NEVER expected it would be a demon who did it for her. To be fair, the demon didn't expect to fall so hard for a human, so they're both dealing with this surprise.
So. Roxanne is lonely, knows texting her ex will only end in a mediocre night, and has a spell book that's supposed to be for her D&D DM gig. With a long night in front of her, she decides to summon a demon. A non-threatening demon. The "so you want to start summoning demons and need something easy" type of demon. She does NOT get an easy, non-threatening demon. I mean, Astothar isn't threatening-threatening. He's just big and a little intimidating. He also REALLY doesn't want to be summoned by the irritating coven that keeps dialing his number.
So Roxanne does what she needs to do, binds her demon to her (at his urging) and ends up with a demon very dedicated to giving her what she needs. Which is him. She needs him. Soon the two are tangling the sheets in the best way and Roxanne is figuring out that her demon is exactly what she'd ask for if she can ever catch her breath long enough to find the words.
I've enjoyed this series. It's quick and nicely naughty and YESSSS!
“A demon for beginners,” I declare. “Starter pack.”
Is not what our heroine gets when she's, uh, lonely enough to attempt to summon a bed partner. Instead she gets Astothar astrially projecting asking her to summon him to avoid being summoned by a coven who he does not feel like dealing with. I really enjoyed this book. Her reaction to Astothar was pretty calm- and amusing.
'If a demon told you that you could ask him for anything, what would you say? Because I'm lucky enough to have all of my base needs covered and unfortunate enough to be cursed with a lack of imagination, my first thought was 'world peace.''
A fun read. This is the first story I've read by this author and I would read more. 4 stars
For just about 60 pages u get what u get and although this was delicious it could have been.....more. A gentle, caring, soft demon was not what i was expecting but it was a good change of pace. Even if a part of me was disappointed that he wasn't into at least some soft BDSM. Not very "from hell" of him. 😉
Just the blurb had me chuckling away on this one, but again, a fun erotic read. Kinda felt sorry for the Demon who had no desire in being summoned by the Coven. :D I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
