Teeth: A Coming-of-Rage Musical Comedy

Rate this book
A musical comedy that sends up the contradictions of purity culture from the perspective of a young woman with a frightening anatomical anomaly.

Dawn O’Keefe is an Evangelical teen with a bizarre two rows of gleaming white teeth perfectly placed to preserve her chastity. When the supposedly upright Christian men around her prove more interested in taking advantage of her body than in protecting it, they quickly learn to keep their hands (and other appendages) to themselves. From Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winner Michael R. Jackson (A Strange Loop) and Anna K. Jacobs (POP!), and based on the cult classic film of the same name, Teeth is a toe-tapping, gut-busting, musical satire that gets under the skin of patriarchy and our sex-obsessed and sex-repressed society.

I want to see it!

I've never watched the movie, but Michael R. Jackson writing a feminist horror musical was more than enough of a draw for me. It's a good time. It's got some genuinely funny moments. It's got gore, but the horror really is baked more into religious obsession with heterosexuality and purity and the shame surrounding that as well as the radicalization of men through the manosphere. For the most part, you're cheering the gore.

The songs read well, and several of them are on YouTube, so I was able to get a feel for their sound. It feels like it could be a cult musical.

This was fun ! Kinda crazyyyyyy. But fun ! I do not think it is need as good as strange loop but i do think its really creative and crazy and doesn’t try to be traditional which makes me like it like its not trying to be something it’s not. And thats nice to see out of a show. I don’t know. The twist wasn’t super twisty but like. It was a good silly time 3 stars. Solid.
