A reluctant princess. A high-stakes ball. A murder that could end the world.
Ebrel Dymestl prefers the hiss of an espresso machine to the fanfare of a royal trumpet. But as the niece of the Fae Queen, she can no longer dodge her duties. She has twenty-four hours to prepare for her grand debutante ball, and her anxiety is already boiling over.
To make matters worse, her father—mundane billionaire David Storm—is arriving in Misty Valley the day of the ball to visit her magical world, and watch over his investments in local building projects.
The ball brings more than just awkward family introductions. When a high-ranking diplomat is found dead in the castle’s prestigious gardens, the festivities come to a screeching halt.
With the valley on lockdown and tensions between nations reaching a breaking point, Ebrel finds herself at the center of an international conspiracy.
Someone is trying to escalate a war that will consume both the Fae and human worlds. To stop them, Ebrel must stop hiding behind her barista apron and embrace the terrifying scope of her Dymestl power—before the killer strikes again.
Scandal, secrets, and a triple shot of danger await in the latest installment of the Mystic Brews series.
Alyn Troy is an American from the Midwest (Indiana) who writes The Mystic Brews and Pixie Twist series of Paranormal Cozy Mysteries. In addition to Indiana, he's lived in Southern California, where the Pixie Twist series is set, and has served as a history docent on a notable pier in SoCal. In his past lives, he's been a journalist, a wedding photographer, and an adjunct professor.
Alyn gets assistance from his fuzzy familiar (AKA "Lord Fuzzbutt"). When not helping his human with the writing of paranormal cozy mysteries, Lord Fuzzbutt likes to sit out outside and watch the hummingbirds dart about like pixies. He often yowls at the door, waiting to head to the patio for chipmunk duty. Fortunately, the little rodents are craftier than Fuzzbutt is.
Alyn's beverage of choice is dark roast coffee with a dash of honey, and a splash of half-n-half. In addition to being half-way competent with his home espresso machine, Alyn makes a mean Mai Tai.
I loved reading this book, so much that I read it twice. You really should get it! Full of humour, fabulous characters, and a mystery to be solved – written so well you get totally absorbed in it. Ebrel (April for the non-Fae) Dymestl receives the news that she will be having a Royal debutante ball the next day. And from then on, the stress, diplomatic and “civilian” requests being made of her, and all the fuss that she would rather not be involved in, have her in an overwhelming frenzy of activity. But she does have her family, friends and colleagues to help her and to lean on, and of course there is Ari, with their relationship deepening and all the romance you could wish for. It is a very, very satisfactory sequel to the last book in this series, A Royal Brew.
And for those who haven’t read this series I would suggest getting the Mystic Brews Mysteries series for full enjoyment, but that's just my personal recommendation, as I like this series so much.
Poor Ebrel, only 24 hours notice for her Debutane Ball. Luckily magic helps get her dress made and everything gets done in time, even her choice of escort manages to arrive in time. There are politics at play. There is a poisonous rose in the garden and somehow two people get poisoned, one dies, but the other manages to survive. Then another murder and an attempted one as well. Lots for Ebrel and her “team” to sort out. Also a big introduction to lots of magic for her mundane father to come o terms with. Added to all the darkness, a magical virus that plays havoc wth spells! This made me laugh at the resulting chaos. In the background is a war in Eastern Europe with one side using Fae magic and the other obeying the Fae Queen’s orders not to do so. In the end things click into place and the guilty party is caught.
Ebrel receives the news that she will be having a Royal debutante ball the next day, leave it to Her Grace to give Ebrel an extra dose of stress . Dress, shoes, hair , make-up... she rather be busy slinging Caramel Tornadoes . We finally get to meet Ebril’s mother. Punkin and Pierre sort of say nice things to each other..kind of , sort of David ,Ebrel's dad , gets a front row seat on what his ex wife and daughter deal with There are politics at play. There is a poisonous rose in the garden and somehow two people get poisoned, one dies, but the other manages to survive. In the end everything clicks together, the culprit is in cuffs and let the dancing begin
This book was just so good!! The storyline was fascinating and I was surprised at who done it!! Some really neat twists, especially when you add in Pop, who knows so very little about magic!! I absolutely love Ebrel's mother, she is just the best. And Ebrel is fast becoming one very powerful Dymestl. I can't wait to read the next book!!!
This is a fun, magical adventure that only Troy could create! It has magic, creatures, adventure, action, great characters and relationships, while being inclusive and based out of a coffee shop. What's not to love?! While would be best read in order as this book is part of a series, it probably wouldn't be hard to follow if someone were to pick this up out of order. Recommend!
This series of Alyn Troy’s is one of my favorite. We finally get to meet Ebril’s mother. Punkin and Pierre sort of say nice things to each other, and hijinks happen. I reread the whole series before I read this one, and they were just as fun as I remembered. Hopefully there will be more Mystic Brew stories in the future.
Fancy dances and being the center focal point of the people's attention is not up Ebrel's alley but when Her Grace plans a dance in your honor, what's a girl to do? Add in a murder and the threat of a world war between human and Fae, well you have an amazing read!! Loved it.
Finally a new book from Misty Valley. Great continuation from my favorite coffee café. If you were waiting to see what happens between Ebrel and her mysterious boyfriend here it is.
I loved it ,I had to stop reading so it could look Forward to reading it. I didn’t want the book to end but It did and it was wonderful I highly enjoyed reading it.
Wow, this book was so good and had so much in it that as soon as I finished it, I had to reread it again... twice. Wonderful installment in the series.
