Two royal princes find themselves in a fake competition, but will it end in a trick or a treat? Coal, the Prince of Christmas, would rather avoid the holiday this year, given his father's turn to use it as a mere PR stunt. However, Coal's father announces his engagement to his best friend, Princess Iris of Easter, catching him off guard. When a rival, Hex, the Prince of Halloween, arrives to challenge for the princess' hand, Coal must confront his past mistake. As they spend more time together, Coal finds himself drawn to Hex, but pursuing this could disrupt Santa's plans and cause a disaster, right?
Sara Raasch has known she was destined for bookish things since the age of five, when her friends had a lemonade stand and she tagged along to sell her hand-drawn picture books too. Not much has changed since then — her friends still cock concerned eyebrows when she attempts to draw things and her enthusiasm for the written word still drives her to extreme measures. Her debut YA fantasy, SNOW LIKE ASHES, the first in a trilogy, came out October 14, 2014 from Balzer + Bray. It does not feature her hand-drawn pictures.
I was home sick from work today and in the lead up to Christmas I thought I would give this one a read and I'm so glad that I did.
If you're looking for a very sweet romance set to the intrigue and scandal of festive holidays, then this is the book for you. I wasn't sure what to expect when starting this book which is why I enjoyed it so much, I think. Lots of heart and thoughts on the true meaning of Christmas intermixed with the different relationships in our lives that make the holidays such a special time. Plenty of holiday high jinx as the princes of Christmas and Halloween fall in love during sleigh races and publicity stunts.
3.5 stars. Great world building, good characters with believable problems. Steamy and sweet. I really enjoyed it and I'm looking forward to more of this world.
