The story was rather slow to get started and lacking in action in comparison with Child's other books. However it was a cleverly worked story.

To me Reacher was a bit out of character in this one.

They find Reacher by running a small ad in the Army Times and he sees it and calls. The ad was simply 5 words center page in a boxed column printed in bold type: “Reacher call Rick Shoemaker.” The very senior Army officer who thought of this approach refers to him “Sherlock Homeless.”
It is an international assassination plot involving a sniper that Reacher had sent to prison over 16 years ago that beckons his service, but it does seem like a coincidence. He is paired up with another officer named Casey Nice (“Nice by name, nice by nature”).
The plot complicates itself, of course, when it seems clear that there are 4 possible snipers involved in the assassination plot and the world leaders are at risk in a coming summit in London. This pulls in security from around the world, but Casey Nice and Reacher just strike out on their own. The do talk with some of their security counterparts and the see that they are all like the CIA, or the DGSE, or MI6 in Britain. Reacher adds, “But we’re all still KGB really. Old wine, new bottles.”
The plot of this story may suggest a predictable read but as usual Child is the master of plot and this story is one that will capture your interest. For more on this book see https://connectedeventsmatter.com/blo... or to see more about Lee Child and links to all the books reviewed see

Personal: A Jack Reacher Novel is an excellent suspenseful story. The characters and situations are all believable. The settings have been well described. Research has gone into this book. The book received four stars in this review and is highly recommended.

Excellent book. It will keep you reading when you should be sleeping, getting work done, getting kids off to school. Face it, you won't get anything done, so just read the book, finish it, then get everything done.
This is another of Lee Child's great stories about Jack Reacher. Gotta love this guy, both Lee and Jack! Someone tries to shoot the president of France. The bullet was American, but the distance between the shooter and the target was 3/4ths of a mile. Sharp shooter of which there are only so many in the world. A G8 Summit is coming up and world leaders are at risk. Well, all you have to do is get Jack Reacher on the job and see what happens from there. This story involves the Army, the State Department, the CIA, I nice young woman name of Casey Rice, mobsters, Serbian bad guys, and all else that goes into a good Jack Reacher story. This one won't disappoint. After all, this time it is "personal."

Long, intensely introspective and very, very detailed, "Personal: A Jack Reacher Novel" by Lee Child took me on a trip with a protagonist I've been enthralled with ever since I first read about him in "Gone Tomorrow." Nicknamed "Sherlock Homeless" by his old co-worker, General Tom O'Day, Reacher expands his lone wolf persona by teaming up with a 28 year-old agent, Casey Nice,on an assignment that takes them to various parts of the United States and Europe in search of a suspect closely connected to Reacher's past.
Sparse and witty in spots, Child also felt the need to add long passages within his text, giving the book a leisurely pace that I've never seen in a thriller. I felt a little unsettled by this approach until I got to the end and the whole story came together in an unexpected and surprising way.

As usual, another great Jack Reacher book. Although the ending seemed rather hurried, after a long and suspenseful build up. Look forward to the next one.

I usually love the Reacher books, but struggled to get through this one and was tempted to not finish it.

Another enjoyable book by Lee Child. It's like reading literary cotton candy, but still enjoyable.

Another excellent job by Lee Child. Jack Reacher is an unforgettable character and I think this story is classic Reacher. It keeps you turning pages into the late hours!
