Devon's Choice

Rate this book
Life holds no surprises for Devon Murphy. Her life consists of keeping tabs on her aging Irish father, working part time at a coffee shop, and building her online graphics design business. Devon’s only tricky situation is a shallow relationship with the pampered and affluent Michael Turner, who sees her as just another woman to conquer.

Following his father’s death, Brandon’s only goal is to expand the family business and live life on his own terms. That is, until he walks into the coffee shop one snowy evening and meets the enchanting, redhaired barista behind the counter. But can Devon and Brandon’s attraction for each other be strong enough to help erase their deepest disappointments and renew their faith in God?

I grew up in Ohio where I currently live with my husband and our two rescue Labradors. Some of my favorite things include reading, shopping, pepperoni pizza, Hershey bars and hanging out with my two grown sons.

Growing up an only child, I had many imaginary friends. I believe this - and a love of books - fueled my desire to write. It was many years later that my dream of becoming a published author came true.

I’m grateful to God for always keeping a story in my heart and hope you are blessed and entertained by my books.

After seeing this book featured on Inspired Books Guide I became all the more curious about it and wanted to try it out for myself. I’ve also been trying to mix my style of reading some more and this one would fall under Christian fiction, so I was looking forward to it.

I did enjoy this one, and I think my main problem was that it was so short. It’s at about 160 pages and I think if the author had written some more and expanded on some points, I would’ve been able to get to know a lot of the characters better and expanded on some scenes and enjoyed the whole thing. But let’s start with some good points.

I immediately liked Devon. She was a generally nice character and she had a lot of the same principals as I did – family, faith and friends. Even though she had strayed from the church community she still wanted to stay pure until marriage despite pressure from her boyfriend. You have to give her some respect for that! And her friend, Megan, never stopped inviting her to church and promising her that she would be welcomed and not shunned from the group. You have to admire that about Megan as well.

There was a love triangle in this one, with two love interests. There was Michael who was rich and a bit bossy as well. He would tell Devon what to do and though he seemed to stick to the grounds she wanted, he did seem pushy as well. Personally I felt like he was always set up to be the ‘bad guy’ of the two of them and I felt like we never got to see the good side to him that must’ve made Devon want to go out with him in the first place.

Brandon was a nice, kind guy. Although he wasn’t religious, again he had some good mindsets and was a hard worker. He stuck to the guidelines Devon set and I felt like although he did have his own flaws, he was good at respecting her as well. Again, I did feel like he was set up to be the ‘good guy’ since we first meet him, and would’ve liked if the lines between the two were a bit more blurred. If we got see the good and bad side of them both!

The writing style was a bit simplistic which was fine for reading but it didn’t excite me or particularly draw me into the story too much. The main conflict in this novel was between Devon choosing what she wanted. And then her father is ill – and some of the conflict was him battling his illness.

This was reasonably short, so I don’t have too much to say! But I would be happy to read some more Christian fiction after this one!

A very touching and moving story that will make you laugh and cry. I loved every minute of the book. It is very well written and will grab your attention from the very beginning to the end of the book. I hated to see it end.
Devon Murphy lives with her stubborn Irish father. She works in a coffee shop while trying to start her business and help take care of her father. She is dating Michael Turner and she knows he is not right for her but keeps dating him any ways. Michael only seems to care about himself and what he wants. One day Brandon Forester walks into the coffee shop and their is an instant attraction between the two of them. Later they run into each other at the gym and start to date much to Michael's dislike. This book deals with relationships, loss of a parent and having faith in God that he will lead you in the right direction.

A very moving touching story. This is well written and had me hooked from the very start. One of the things that stood out is that Devon's friend never gave up inviting her to church. There were some unexpected twist and turns. This is the first book I have read by Catherine Bennett. I plan to read more of her books.

Devon Murphy lives with her father, takes her dog Bubby for walks and works at a coffee shop while she's building a business. She also dates Michael Turner here and there, a man her father feels will take good care of her but she's really not that interested in.

Brandon Forester comes into her coffee shop one evening and then she runs into him at her gym. There's a mutual attraction and it's not long before they start dating.

I liked Devon's relationship with her father. They cared deeply for each other and she listened to his advice. I enjoyed watching Brandon and Devon's relationship progress. Michael felt like someone that Devon just passed the time with and he'd take her out to nice places. When she met Brandon, she came alive and life became more enjoyable for her. Things seemed to be going well until a major event changed everything and Devon had to make a major life decision.

There are religious elements in this book but it doesn't come across as preachy. If you enjoy clean romance, this is a book you'll want to check out!

I received a copy of this book to review. My opinion is 100% my own.

First off, I love the cover of this book. I think it's so sweet. I just had to get that out of the way before I started the review. :)

"Devon's Choice" is a Christian Fiction Romance. Devon is a likable character. She is devoted to her father and has a cute dog named Bubby. Devon is living a sort of muted acceptance life. She isn't really living, she is just doing things. Her boyfriend is a loser but she's okay with that because he gets her out of the house once in awhile and takes her to fancy places. She doesn't really care about him at all. Then Brandon shows up and life becomes more about living.

I enjoyed watching Devon transform a bit as she accepts that life might hold more for her than she originally thought. Brandon is a good man. A patient man. Respectful. I liked him a lot.

I wasn't completely engaged emotionally and some parts felt a bit flat to me but overall this was a good story. I always appreciate a good, clean romance.

I received the book Devon’s Choice in exchange for an honest review; I would give this book 3 out of 5 stars. Devon Murphy is a young woman that lives at home with her widowed father, Charles, and her dog, Bubby. Devon works part time at a coffee house and as a graphic designer. The story opens with Devon working at the coffee shop with her BFF Megan where she meets a man, Brandon, aka “Black Coffee Guy.” Things are complicated because she is currently dating Michael, a successful businessman. Devon breaks things off with Michael soon after meeting Brandon because she realizes that they do not have a future and she is not entirely trusting of Michael or his actions. Meanwhile, Brandon and Devon quickly grow closer after their first meeting due to their mutual physical and moral attraction. Both Devon and Brandon have experienced the loss of a parent so they have an additional bond in addition to their physical attraction to one another. The most interesting relationship in this book is between Devon and her father. Charles is the warmest father who adores his daughter and that is the driving force of this story.

This book is a short contemporary Christian romance. The main characters are not Christians; however, there are many Christian themes in the book. The characters struggle with Christianity as they deal with falling in love and loss. I wanted to like this book, I even cried during one scene; however, I must state that I often cry while reading. In reality, I only had lukewarm feelings for the main characters, and I often felt that the writing was a bit flat. Honestly, I grew tired of the author’s descriptions of what everyone was wearing, people carrying out daily mundane tasks, and the overall flat feeling of the narrative. There wasn’t enough dialogue to show the characters interacting because most of the decisions were made internally. The resolution of the major plot conflict felt rushed after a climax that seemed a bit forced. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys romance stories that don’t have any smut, have good values, and don’t mind a short and predictable ending.

I have yet to read a book that can be categorized as “Christian fiction,” and that compelled me to choose Catherine Bennett’s Devon’s Choice. Going into Devon’s Choice, I wasn’t familiar with the criteria that makes a book fall under Christian fiction, so I went into Bennett’s story with no expectations, and what I found was a funny and uplifting story—a nice quick read. The story centers on Devon’s struggle with her beliefs after her mother dies. I think that is what makes Devon such a relatable character. Even if you don’t have the same religious beliefs as Devon, I think it is very relatable to go through life doubting your beliefs when a major tragedy occurs. In the beginning of the story when Devon is dating Michael (the biggest jerk on the planet), I thought the ‘decision’ Devon was going to be making had to do with leaving Michael and choosing Brandon (the sweetest guy on the planet). I remember thinking how cliché that would be, but luckily Bennett didn’t make it about a guy, she made it about something much more than that.

Devin’s decision was ultimately about coming to terms with the obstacles life has thrown her way and how to accept those obstacles. Don’t get me wrong, Devon’s Choice is defiantly a sweet love story between Devon and Brandon, but it was also about the platonic relationships she has, such as her relationship with her father. I also love Devon’s relationship with her best friend Meagan. I couldn’t help but laugh every time Meagan shows up to give Devon her ‘wisdom.’ I also love the adding of Irish culture—from her dad with his love of corn beef and cabbage to the very end when Devon adds a hint of green to her ideal ending. I couldn’t help but root for Devon as I flipped through her story, and I would defiantly read another of Bennett’s stories!

I received a copy in exchange for a fair and honest review.
Romance, clean, Christian elements.
This was a mixed one for me. On the one hand, I generally liked the everyday aspects of the story, liked the way it came together, generally. It just didn't wow me over the top, or make me want to read into the wee hours of the morning. Saying that though, Devon and Brandon were a lovely couple. I guess for me, I was wishing he seemed more committed as a Christian to morals (seemed he was wanting to go past the line way too many times for a Christian novel, although it is clear he isn't firm), and also she never really had the conversation with him, re her values. That seemed a confusing message to me. She almost seemed like she was about to compromise? Why didn't she do something to not let it go to far too? Seemed almost like she was risking the fall herself.
My other peeve, was she didn't seem to be very committed to her relationship with Brandon. I know it was still kind of new, she had just gone through some traumatic events, but did she care about him as more than a kissing companion? That was a question that didn't seem to resolve with her do I go, do I stay situation at the end.
Having her father also push Micheal on her, even as she expressed her concerns about him, even with the excuse that he just wanted to see her settled, seemed kind of forced to me.
I generally did like their romance, but just those things kind of put it lower for me personally as a reader. I loved the HEA, but was hoping for more somehow.

This was a quick read. The book is rather short only 12 chapters, I was able to read it in one siting. This book is about Devon a 28 year old who is a graphic designer and a barista. I wish I could tell you more about the summary but I feel like that would be revealing the book. I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone.

I really liked the characters, but I didn’t love them. I thought Devon fell a little flat sometimes. I preferred to read from Brandon’s point of view. He is the love interest, and even though he seemed just a little bit too perfect at times, I thought he was more believable as a person.

I did enjoyed how Bennett incorporated faith into the book. It was Devon’s struggle with accepting God’s love after her mother passed away. She still had Christian morals because those were the ones her mother brought her up with. When big moments come up in her life she looks toward God for guidance. I thought her faith was beautiful.

I did have issues with this book though. There were two scenes that just through me completely out of the book. They were scenes with Michael, a man Devon has been seeing. One of scene was just so over the top and dramatic, I felt like I was reading the script to a lifetime movie.

Again the book was so short. I felt like we missed out on great supporting characters, character growth, and at times the story was just too rushed. I wanted more.

Devon's Choice is an inspirational Christian romance that follows the story of Devon Murphy as she works through the uncertainties and choices in life. Her personal journey leads her to opening up to all of life's experiences, standing by her beliefs, discovering what is really important in life, and what will bring her true love and happiness.

This is a wonderful story that easily draws the reader into Devon's story. You can't help but feel compassion and empathy for Devon as she deals with issues in her life, it is easy to relate to her and cheer her on as she comes to terms with the choices and decisions that she makes. I enjoyed watching as Devon and Brandon worked through their personal issues with faith, belief, and trust, so that their budding romance could be given a chance to develop into a loving and happy relationship.

Devon's Choice is a very touching story that is full of emotion, it will tug at your heartstrings and leave a smile on your face.

Devon's Choice is clean a Christian contemporary romance.H

Devon is broken on many levels. She sacrifices her life for her father who suffers from a heart condition. He doesn't take care of himself and so she takes on the responsibility. She puts up with a loser boyfriend, mostly because her father likes him and wants to see her taken care of when he passes.

To me the story was about Devon finding her way. She has gone through the motions for so many years, that she has let many things slide by, particularly her faith.

I liked the characters in this story. I think my favorite was her dad. He's a meddling and lovable father who is stubborn and will live life to the fullest on his terms. His main desire is to see his daughter happy and in a relationship. He knows that he doesn't have much time and doesn't want to to be alone.

I admired Devon sticking up for her values. She was pressured by her ex-boyfriend into premarital sexual relations. It was contrary to the decision and beliefs that she held. I really like reading about characters that are strong enough to say "no" and mean it!

This is a book that is clean and a quick read. I didn't connect with the story well, that's why I gave it a 3 rating. That being said, it was still a good book.

This book sounded really good, but it turned out to be only so-so. At first the characters drew me in, but as I got further in, somehow I became less invested in the characters. It felt like a really good book could have come of this story, but it didn't.

There were things in the book that pulled me from the story. One of those things were times when in the main character point of view, her parents were referred to by their first names, but other times as her mom and dad. Also, much of the description in the book seemed to distract from the story rather than enhance it. Also, in the book an upcoming event would me discussed, but sometimes it would then skip to after the event and just have a few sentences explaining what happened. I think including the events would have added to the story. There were also a number of editing mistakes.

I did like characters for the most part, and there were some scenes I liked. However, overall, the book was only an okay read. I do really like the cover.

3.5 stars. This was a sweet story and a fairly quick read, although at times I think I was a little “underwhelmed” by the story (not sure if that is the best word, but I think I was expecting a bit more depth or tension/climax or something). I liked how the relationship between the two main characters started out and developed – it seemed realistic and believable. On the other hand, the relationship between Devon and her former boyfriend (especially a couple of the later scenes) felt more like it just came out of a move script.
The relationships the two main characters each had with their parent was also a positive part of the story - I appreciated their closeness and the way they looked out for the needs of their parent. I thought the faith/religious elements of the story were well done for the most part – there were only a couple of spots where I felt it was a bit too much for my personal taste. Overall, an enjoyable read!

ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD
This is a very emotional story of friendship, relationships and loss. Devon Murphy is a woman with strong morals. She loves and cares for her aging widowed father, works a part time job at a coffee shop with her friend Megan, and is putting her graphics art degree to work building a business. She is dating Michael Turner, who is egotistical, self-centered and treats her like a business deal. Brandon Forrester seems to have the same strong characteristics as Devon, family devotion, business ethics, healthier lifestyle and respecting other people. Devon knows that Michael is wrong for her and when she meets Brandon, they seem to have a connection. This story is about taking a hard look at your life and goals and making plans and changes. About dealing with the loss of a parent and knowing how to move on and putting your faith and trust in God and allowing Him to lead in your life.

The premise of this story is basically Devon has two guys who want to date her. Michael is rich and wants more than she is willing to give him. He wants her to come work for him instead of running her own business. He wants more physically than Devon is willing to give. BUT, Devon's dad likes him. He has plenty of money and will take good care of her. When Devon meets Brandon at the coffee shop she works at part time, sparks fly. She isn't sure if she should even agree to a coffee date with him since she is seeing Michael, but she agrees and finds that she has some major decisions to make.
There are Christian themes threaded throughout the story, which I liked. However, it seemed like more of an afterthought. I liked that Devon was strong on her convictions to keep intimacy in marriage--and didn't give in just because the men in her life wanted more. Devon's dad was a great character. He really added dimension to the story.
Overall, it was a pretty good read. Not one that I would re-read, but enjoyable non-the-less.

Devon’s Choice was just okay. SPOILERS: Michael was a jerk and I didn’t like how Devon overlooked his rude, snobbish attitude just because he occasionally did something sweet and treated her to expensive dates. I didn’t like how he treated her at all and can’t believe that she would even think about staying with him. Brandon was her knight in shining armor, just the guy she needed. I liked the relationship Devon and Brandon shared. I enjoyed that Brandon was able to help Devon through the hard challenges she faced with Michael and what her Dad went through and I’m glad they ended up together. The only negative thing that I didn’t like about the book was all the thoughts Brandon had about wanting Devon thoroughly, and all that the thoughts implied. I didn’t think they were needed and I disliked the book more than I liked it for this reason. When I think of a clean Christian romance, sex isn’t talked about or implied.

I really loved this story, such a sweet wonderful love story.
Devon is the main character, she lives at home with her Father, taking care of him since his heart attack a few years ago. She works at a local coffee shop as a barista and seems to enjoy it. But her main goal is getting her Graphic design business going. The man she is dating had helped with that. but she really isnt in love with this man. Then a intriguing man enters the coffee shop, Devon notices but doesn't want him to notice that she notice. Of course the man, Brandon notices her as well. Of course Brandon is interest in learning more about her.
There is a lot more to this story and what happens with Devon, this is a really good story, it read well and I enjoyed it, it was a fast read, a book that I didnt want to put down.
This is a clean story which can be hard to find these did.

This book is about Devon a very sweet girl that lives with her Bubby her Lab and father Charles (and Irishman if I've ever seen one). She also works part time at a coffee shop and part time as a graphic designer. She's basically dating this scumbag Michael but meets a great guy named Brandon. The story has a spiritual undertone so you definitely want to be into that or you won't like this book.

I found the story the story sweet most of the time and sad a few time, appropriately. It's a very quick and cute read.

4 STARS

Needed tissue for this story, For Happy and sad reasons. I really connected to these characters.
I like most of them and would like to know them in real life.

Devon's Choice is not afraid to bring up prayer, church and God and make it part of the story. It is a clean read.

Devon lives with her widowed father. She works part time at a coffee shop while she is trying to grow her own business. Devon is worried about her father's health. She is dating Michael Turner.

Devon's father likes that Michael Turner is well off. He encourages Devon to keep dating him.

Michael Turner works for his family's construction company. He does not like the fact that Devon has standards. He wants her to work for his family's company. He travels a lot for business.

Brandon Forrester comes into the Coffee shop one snowy day right before closing. He sees Devon and is interested in her. He plows the coffee shop's parking lot while he is there. He asks her out.

I was impressed right away with Brandon plowing the coffee shop's parking lot for them.

I thought the book was good. Would not mind reading another book from Catherine Bennett in the future.

I was given this ebook to read. In return I agreed to give a honest review of Devon's Choice and be part of it's blog tour.

I received a copy of Devon's Choice in exchange for an honest review. I would have to give this one around 3.75 Stars. It is better than a 3 Star read, but just a tad under a 4 for me. I would label this novel as a clean romance with a touch of the spiritual. It in no way pushes religion, it is simply there (or not there).

Devon is a single lady living with her father. I loved this relationship. It was heartfelt and the gem of the story. This small family until had faced loss and survived. They love, worry, care for and support each other beautifully. The humor that Devon's father brought to the story was perfection!

In the story, Devon is already dating Michael when she meets Brandon. Thank heavens this wasn't the classic love triangle where one is trying to decide who they love. Devon knows - she just has to take the steps to put a part of her life in the past and move into the future.

So.. what brought the rating down for me? *attempt to not spoil it* I hate hate hate hate hate the tragedy that Devon had to experience to move on. I can see where the writer wanted to give us something with a high impact value, but again.. hated it. I didn't hate it entirely because of the emotions. I simply would have preferred it didn't happen and feel cheated out of "what could have been". I was cheering for Devon's Dad and Brandon's Mom to become friends - not necessarily romantic friends. This would have been one amazing friendship! I also hate that Devon had to experience tragedy to become a stronger woman. Bah. I think her interactions with Michael, alone, could have easily have been used as the trigger to push her forward.

The ending.. It felt flat and abrupt. Here was this emotional story and then... turn the page, okay.. bing bing bing everything is wrapped up and done.

Devon's Choice by Catherine Bennett is a quick read about a young woman at a crossroads in life. Devon is twenty-eight, still lives at home with her ailing father, and trying to start her own business. She's in a dead end relationship when she meets Brandon a charming young man trying to make his family business grow.

I really loved this book! Devon is a fun character that I related to on every level. She's a bit lost at the beginning of the book. Her mother died five years prior, and since then she's lived with her dad, who is not doing to well himself. She's working at a coffee shop by day and by night trying to make a go of her online company. Pride, I think, keeps her from accepting any help from anyone. She wants to succeed on her own.

Brandon isn't much better. When we first meet him, he is working himself to the bone to make his family business grow. He inherited it when his father died unexpectedly, and now he's running it his way. When he meets Devon, he realizes this is the girl he wants to settle down with. Maybe he is ready. I like Brandon! He's honest, kind-hearted, and good to Devon.

The plot of the story is a light romance with some ups and downs. But what makes the plot unique is the author's ability to interweave Christianity and make this clean romance a story of redemption. It's sweet and heartbreaking at moments and I just loved it! It's short, only about 150 pages so it can easily be read in one sitting if you choose to do so. If you enjoy inspirational, clean romance I highly recommend you go grab a copy. You can thank me later ;)

Devon's life is pretty steady. She works a basic job at a coffee house to support her real passion of graphic design. She takes care of her dad and her dog. She occasionally goes out with the handsome (and rich) Michael. All that changes though when a stranger comes into the coffee shop to order some black coffee. Suddenly nothing will ever be the same for Devon. In finding love, Devon may be finding even more that she had even imagined in her life.

This was a very sweet book. While Devon may not have the life of her dreams, she makes the most of what she does have. She works and does what she loves on the side. She takes care of her father in the best way she knows how. Devon does the best she can to carve out a life on her terms. Things begin to change when she meets the handsome Brandon. Suddenly Devon's life seems a bit empty without him. Brandon of course feels the same way. Devon has suddenly burst into his life, and nothing will be the same. The two of them feel instant attraction.

Devon and Brandon have their fair share of issues though. One of Devon's comes in the form of Michael, her ex-boyfriend. He doesn't take to kindly to being an ex it turns out. Together, Devon and Michael must figure out a path together. I found this to be a pretty quick read. Devon was a nice character. I like how she held to her convictions in life even with the pressure Michael was giving her. I appreciate Devon's ability to choose for herself and do things for all the right reasons. It's no wonder she fell for Brandon so quickly. He's a great guy who only wants the best for everyone in his life. People who want a sweet and fun romance will enjoy this book greatly.

Review for Devon’s Choice

Devon is a 28 year old freelance graphics designer. She works part time at a local coffee shop as a barista, not because she needs the money, but because she loves the people she works with and the people she serves. Her boyfriend of two months, Michael, is a rich, powerful man. Unfortunately, Devon’s Dad is more impressed with Michael than Devon is. Michael takes Devon to expensive dinners and concerts in between his travels. But, he expects more in return than Devon is willing to put out. And, he doesn’t ask her out, he tells her where they are going and when he will pick her up. One day, a tall dark and handsome man, Brandon comes into the coffee shop during Devon’s shift. He orders a grande black coffee and flirts a little with Devon. She notices he leaves in a Forrester Landscaping truck with a snow plow in the front and wonders if he is an employee or the owner. Brandon notices Devon too and begins a slow, cautious pursuit. They start out going for lunch but Devon knows she has to tell him she is already seeing someone. When Michael holds a dinner party and tries to rape Devon, she escapes with her virginity, but Michael doesn’t give up easily. Brandon becomes her protector but Devon’s uncle enters the picture and gives her some tempting options. This is a well written, thought provoking Christian novel.

Note: I was sent an electronic copy of the book to review, but that does not affect my review in anyway. Except for the lack of procrastination in my writing and posting.

Devon's life was simple. Her life revolved around her stubborn Irish dad, and her adorable black lab, Bubby. She worked at a coffee shop because it reminded her of her deceased mother, and she also worked as a freelance designer. She occasionally went out with Michael Turner, an affluent businessman who didn't care for her opinion.

After his father's death, Brandon's focus was on keeping the family business going, and living life on his own terms. And helping with the upkeep of his mom's range-styled house. Until he met Devon, at least.

The book was a simple read. Nothing too crazy or dramatic, but just enough to keep the plot going. The characters were lovable, except for the Michael. Let's not even go there. While the book is classified as christian fiction, it's not chock-full of Christianity like I expected so... I think it's worth the read. The plot just gives off a rather calm and peaceful feeling, and I finished it in less than a day. It's a short read, but I think it's the perfect length, although an epilogue would have been nice. Overall, I think this is a book that will probably stay with me for a while.

PS. Perfect cafe read.

an enjoyable Christian romance story! Devon works in a coffee shop but is working on establishing a graphic design business. Michael is an arrogant and shallow man that she is dating who expects everything to be handed to him. Brandon is the "nice guy" that meets Devon when he stops for coffee. And of course there is Megan the best friend and her boyfriend John...but they are minor characters.

When I first started reading this book and would come to the sections where it detailed the dates between Devon and Michael, I knew this couldn't last long. Devon's character is independent and she doesn't need a man to do things for her. I also could see that if Michael didn't get his way, that his actions could cause problems. I was glad of the way that whole situation resolved itself but not without a few "oh no" moments.

Brandon is the good guy and sets out to prove it to Devon, and even to himself. He realizes that his life isn't complete and perhaps Devon is the one that will complete that life. Both Brandon and Devon have to work through the uncertainties in their life before they will ever be happy with themselves or each other.

I enjoyed every bit of this and wouldn't hesitate to read something by this author again.

Devon’s Choice by Catherine Bennett was a Christian romance. I was very back and forth about what I thought about this book. Devon is living with her widowed father (who has a heart condition), dating a wealthy jerky guy (and staying with him because her dad likes him and she feels guilty about breaking up with him because he takes her on expensive dates), working at a coffee house while trying to start her own graphic design company, being invited to a Bible study group by her best friend but not really wanting to go (but then talking to others about needing Jesus in their life even though she doesn’t herself), then dating another guy, and lots of other things that I don’t want to give away too much.

I found the descriptions forced at times (almost like the author said, “oh I forgot to describe this” and then throwing the description in instead of it being a flowing part of the book), I found some situations very unbelievable, dialogue forced at times, and the main character annoying.

I can’t say that I liked this book, but I also have say that I didn’t like it. It left me a bit disappointed and feeling kind of so-so. I give this book 2 ½ stars out of 5.

I was given a copy of this e-book in exchange for an honest review.

Overall this was a quick and good read. The characters were well developed and relate-able. I enjoyed the interactions between Devon and her father the most. I really could visualize the dynamic between the two and their conversations. I thought Catherine Bennett did an excellent job in describing the scenes, emotions and conflicts within the book.

My hesitation to go further and say this book is a favorite is because parts of the story were predictable and the ending was what I expected from almost the beginning of the book. This is just me, but I like my romances, thrillers, mystery, YA, etc. to have some twists in there. This book does introduce a "villain", but not in such a way as the character is of any real importance.

If you like the sweet reads where the character has some conflict in their life, meets someone, grows together but has a wee bit of conflict that is readily overcome by the last page you will love this book. If you like more surprises and WHATT moments this book will still be enjoyable because again the characters are very well developed and relate-able, but this book will probably not make it to your favorite shelf.

I don't know how to rate this one. 2 stars seems too low, but 3 stars seems too much. I finished this book a month ago, so I don't remember all of the specifics, but when reading it, for a Christian book, it focused a bit too much on the looks of people. When reading from the point of view of the male lead character, he would be thinking about her neckline, how close her curves fit into his curves, even the word erotic was used. All of this didn't seem to fit into the Christian genre. There was simply too much focus on that.

If the story had been longer, things fleshed out a bit more, I would probably have liked it better too. All in all, it was just nothing special. It was interesting enough to read, but the faith in it didn't seem genuine either.

I can't think of much that I specifically disliked about the story or anything really liked either, so it's right in the middle for me, 2.5 stars. The reason for me putting a 2 star rating instead of rounding up is because of all the focus on the physical.. The way it was done in this one bothered me and I wouldn't round down if this wasn't categorized as Christian fiction.

Devon's Choice

Two people suffering disappointment in their lives and struggling with their faith meet. The charming red haired Irish barista meets the businessman struggling to live life on his own terms. Both are seeking something that is missing in their lives. The author has done a great job with the twists and turns as the story unfolds.
Will the chemistry between them lead to a romance? Will it make their lives better? Will this relationship strengthen their faith? Read this delightful novel and follow along as two young people fall in love and build a new life with God’s help.
I was given a copy of this book to read and write a review. It is one of the most delightful books that I have read. But I warn you that you may need your tissue box handy. You can just see their character and faith changing as their story is told. The author has woven a wonderful tale of what God can do if we let him into our lives.

Devon’s Choice is about just that…choices Devon has to make. Growing up isn’t easy and the choices we have to make as grown-ups are hard. Devon must choose to follow what is comfortable and easy or follow her heart. Devon’s life changes when she meets Brandon at the coffee shop she works at. Sparks fly and Devon must choose to take a leap or hide and be miserable! There is obviously more to the book than that. Devon and Brandon have a lot of obstacles they must overcome if they are to prove to each other that they are really in the relationship for good and aren’t going to run when things get hard. I loved this story and loved the real way that Devon and Brandon work through things. Sometimes you read novels and the solutions are not realistic. Everything in this book was. I would highly recommend reading this book.
