Ok I’m not sure how I got lucky two days in a row in the RH genre. Another hidden gem.

I like to lead with the fact that I’m not an ARC reader and my average rating has been two stars here lately. So when I say I enjoyed it, I mean it.

It’s a bit tropey, but it’s tropes that I like, and they’re done pretty well. I enjoy a good rage roller coaster, but so many authors take it too far and make their MMCs unforgivable. This would be no problem at all if they’d allow the FMC to throw them in the trash permanently, but I’ve only known one author to do that (thank you Elizabeth Dear for your service). But this book has an acceptable balance, letting me hate all of her asshole bonds while leaving room for future growth and explanations.

I wouldn’t say it’s 100% safe, but there isn’t cheating. One of her bonds messes around with other girls in front of her, but neither of them have accepted said bond. I’m a big fan of free will in all romantic situations, so if someone hasn’t committed, it doesn’t matter if they have a fated bond. They’re free to do what they want. He’s a major asshole, and otherwise pretty close to unforgivable for other reasons though.

There’s nothing hugely riveting. We’ve got the typical FMC with hidden/suppressed magic secretly bonding with overpowered and popular MMCs. We’ve got the typical psycho, man whore, professor, aggressor, and betrayer in the MMC group. They were interesting enough in their specific circumstances though, so I was entertained.

The friend group was an excellent addition, though they were written a bit flat.

I had fun and didn’t put it down even once, so it was a win for me.

This is one of those books you can’t put down. Truly. I was staying up late just to finish, I couldn’t get enough of it.

The author did a fantastic job story and character building, and it’s a super easy follow - sometimes when there’s many characters, it’s hard to remember the role of each one, but in this book it’s not complicated at all because each one has unique characteristics. You just know there’s a deeper story behind each character waiting to be unveiled at some point.

The book isn’t super spicy, but there is SO MUCH sexual tension. It keeps you on your toes and makes you yearn to keep reading.

My only complaint is I’ll have to wait for book number two!

An easy 5 stars, I’ll be recommending to all my friends.

This was my catnip.

Excerpt:

“I liked that. I valued that. I valued you. And if that’s gone, fine. I’ll deal with it. But if someone’s gotten in your ear, if there’s something I don’t know…” My voice drops, ragged. “I want the chance to defend myself. No one else is going to fight for me. Just give me that much. Please.”

End Excerpt.

The world is divided into factions sorted by the seven deadly sins. The people are mages, not demons, and their powers are based on the type of sin. Arwen has not manifested a Sin Power. She's expecting to be exiled because of it, but her Power Level is off the charts so she's given a chance at the SinVail Academy instead. She has a nice shiny spine.

If you like Academy settings and like Fantasy, then this book should scratch that itch.

I didn't notice any inconsistencies in the plot, world building, or characters.

I do wish there had been more detail about various powers and magic, but the world building was solid enough. Character development was decent for the characters that took center stage in this first book. There was some character growth, but in some instances it felt a little rushed and sudden. Arwen and Maddox felt very relatable.

The relationship development was refreshing. It didn't just spawn out of nowhere and it made sense.

There were moments when I got teary eyed and moments when I was angry. At one point, I thought she would forgive and forget too easily but she didn't! I loved that.

This is the sort of writing style that I prefer. The pace felt reasonably quick and there weren't any excessively long descriptions of clothing or architecture. There were descriptions, but the author trusted our imaginations and kept them to the point.

I did notice some spelling errors that spell check wouldn't have caught and a word misuse, but I was enjoying the story so much that they were just blips on my radar.

As soon as the next book comes out, I plan to take a break from whatever I'm reading to pick it up.

only thoughts right now is SHIT THAT WAS GOOD!! I loved that entirely with my whole heart and was hooked through and through. I absolutely loved the writing, the plot was so intriguing and unique. The characters, even though it’s the first book we did get a good amount of all of the MMC’s. I already love Maddox, Maylo my dear psychopath except I would love to see more as to why he’s called that, and Alexis. The rest of the guys can kick rocks. I’m so shocked about the Professor and NEED THE NEXT BOOK TO UNDERSTAND, what does he know and why did he do what he did??? Ugh so good, cannot wait for the next installement, i’ve seen that the author said sometime in September and that cannot come any faster! Lovely book to start the series.

If you love:
☀️ Academic Setting
☀️ Powerful FMC
☀️ Increasing harem
☀️ 5 MMCS (?)
☀️ Bullying (outside of harem, except one MMC doesn’t stop it from happening, he begs and grovels a bit -> needs to beg a little more though)
☀️ Friends that turn to family
☀️ Obsessed MMC
☀️ Slow to Med Burn
☀️ High Stakes

This is for you!! Highly recommend 😍

DNF 45%. RH. Two ⭐️ for the idea, 0 ⭐️ for execution. It really has potential, but everything feels chaotically written (without intending in to be like that), like every part is a puzzle piece and not one quite fits with another.

We have timejumps, like suddenly it’s months later. We have unnecessary information for about 75%, with a lot of back and forth inner dialogue and just little, uninteresting snippets of conversation between the bonds. This could have been a gem, but the execution lacks severely and honestly, the rating for this book is way too high.

Edit a few hours later: I really wanted to know what would happen so i decided to skim the rest of the book, reading the small parts that pulled my attention. I was right that the story truly had potential. But all the filler and inner dialogue, repetition and tell instead of show make it lackluster at best. I might still try book 2, who knows, it might get better or else i’ll skim that one too.

4.5/5

i was very much surprised with this book! for a newbie author, she did a very good job — i was hooked and didn’t take many breaks to finish it.

i love the slow burn and the fact that there are too many men to count in one hand and that they all have their personalities and reasons for being resistant to the bond.

i also like the way the bonds can work, a pre-existing one or a spontaneous one that isn’t all Fate doing her work.

i can also appreciate how things are run by factions kinda like divergent, even if it is about the seven deadly sins… the academy setting is well written and you can see the lessons and classes happening, which is kinda rare for the trope i guess lol

i cannot wait for the second book :)

Wow, this debut is unexpectedly good! I read it straight through with real ease. Even without a prominent, driving plot, I genuinely enjoyed the journey.
The FMC strikes a good balance between resilience and vulnerability. She isn’t the kind of character who is described as badass but acts like a doormat. More unusually, she uses her brain–I’d almost forgotten what an rh heroine who thinks with her head rather than her vagina even looks like.
Compared to a pre-formed group, I much prefer the mutually antagonistic MMCs, 100% in favor of jealousy and fistfights.
I can’t wait for book two!!!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a well-written, addictive, and creative twist on your typical Why Choose Dark Academia. I really loved the duality of each MMC, they felt like real human beings with flaws and sins, unlike other Why Choose books that shove each guy into a neat little box like accessories to the main character's story. I could not stop reading and it was on my mind all day!

Although, I did find it a bit hard to read through at times because some scenes felt repetitive. Her relationship with Atticus was on and off from the very beginning and kept going in a loop. He pushes her away, she notices then pretends not to, he bullies her, she tries to ignore him, repeat. That push and pull dynamic ended up becoming the main focus of the book.

Also, was there maybe too many men?? (I know I’m being ungrateful and it’s not like the author does them an injustice!) I just felt like the main plot could have been even richer if we had more focus on other elements, like building up to that explosive display of her power we finally got a glimpse of in the end.

Overall, I can’t recommend it enough! I’m just bitter I have to wait until the other book comes out 😛

Too long to get to the point

It would have been a better book if the story hadn't been dragged out. There wasn't enough background to understand how all the moving parts work together. It was pretty easy to figure out who she was going to bond with. The author didn't explain how she was able to keep the bond a secret. The cliffhanger is used to keep you interested enough to wait for the next book to come out. It's not interesting enough to wait a year for, though. It's pretty easy to figure out where the next book storyline is going. It's not interesting enough to be a 5 book series.

Hmmm

An entertaining enough light read.

The only only problem is nothing much happens. Even that ending was mehhhh for all we know book 2 will be dragged out as well. Am I here for it? Not sure.... For a RH with that many bonds, we sure did get a lot of Atticus. Sadly I didn't find him that interesting.

Can't tell me none of her bonds wanted to step up right to the end.......

Just throwing it out there, surely the rebels would have been a better bet than the wastes..

At your own risk people. At least the heroine was some what likable.

I read this in one afternoon and it was really well written. There is a lot being done in this genre and I struggle with finishing many of the books I start, but this one was so good. The heroine is strong and likeable, the MMCs are intriguing yet it seems that there is so much about them we are yet to see. The tension is building up and there are hints about what is to happen and which relationships will develop, but it feels that there can be a lot of different paths for the main characters so I'm really intrigued about what's to come.

5 star as of 20 Sep 2026 on first reading.

Mood: Captivated • Invested • Wanting-more

Roast: A few side characters committed the cardinal sin of standing just outside the plot's reach.

Warning, I'm a huge re-reader of books thus my feelings on them can change over time. Any future re-read opinions will be captured below.

All the angst and probably all the boys. I’m really hoping this resolves in book two that’s already out or I’m going to be sweating the next cliff!
