About the author

She originally went to school to become an equine veterinarian but soon figured out they keep horrible hours and decided to go to grad school instead. That Ph.D wasn’t all it was cracked up to be (and she really sucked at the whole scientist thing), so she dropped out and got a M.S. in forensic toxicology just to get the whole thing over with as soon as possible.
After graduation she got a job with the state of Colorado as their one and only hog farm inspector and spent her days wandering the Eastern Plains shooting the shit with farmers. After a few years of that, she got bored. And since she was a homeschool mom and actually does love science, she decided to write science textbooks and make online classes for other homeschool moms. She wrote more than two hundred of those workbooks and was the number one publisher at the online homeschool store many times, but eventually she covered every science topic she could think of and ran out of shit to say.
So in 2012 she decided to write fiction instead. That year she released her first three books and started a career that would make her a New York Times bestseller and land her on the USA Today Bestseller’s List eighteen times in the next three years. Her books have sold millions of copies all over the world, the audio version of her semi-autobiographical book, Eighteen, was nominated for a Voice Arts Award and an Audie award in 2016 and 2017 respectively, her audiobook Mr. Perfect was nominated for a Voice Arts Award in 2017, and her book, Taking Turns, was nominated for an Audie Award in 2018. Johnathan McClain is her first (and only) writing partner and even though they are worlds apart in just about every way imaginable, it works.

The cover on Amazon got me one clicking this faster than a blink of an eye, then throw in 'Sons of Anarchy and Yellowstone' in the same sentence, I was sold...Plus it's a no brainer when it comes to this author..

I didn’t hate this, but I also didn’t love this, I kind of expected more, but to be fair, maybe it’s coming. It’s definitely not dark, not even a teeny tiny bit, I guess that’s what’s left me a wee bit deflated. This is definitely a quick read and does end on a cliffy which I’m keen to see where it leads us going into the next book.
They were totally on opposite ends of the spectrum, she was born with a silver spoon between her lips, he was trailer trash, with no prospects of a future other than where he ended up, taking the fall for the club.
Secrecy surrounds us with their story, stolen moments etched on camera, snap shots lead us to questions unanswered, a mother’s request that these two do not get involved and are to remain at arms length with no prospect of marriage or she’ll lose her inheritance and safety net.

4.2 ⭐ WOW that was AWESOME!
WOWZA!! 😳🔥 This was dark, disturbing, gritty, and straight-up uncomfortable—in the best way. Definitely not your cookie-cutter MC read.
I’m usually not a novella fan, but this is book one of five, and together they essentially form a full-length story. That I can get behind 🙌 I held off until the final book released (because patience is not my virtue 😅), and after finishing this first installment… yeah, I’m already hooked and desperate for more.
Legion Kane (seriously, what a sexy bad-boy biker name 😮🔥) just did three years for a crime he didn’t commit—all for the MC. He walks out of prison with nothing but an expired driver’s license and $27 to his name. He’s picked up by Cash Ashby—older brother to Savannah, aka the girl who’s always owned Legion’s heart 💔—and immediately warned to stay away. Savannah is now engaged to a senator’s son, and her future is very much not her own.
The contrast between these families is stark. The Ashbys are old-money Montana royalty, sitting on tens of thousands of acres, while the Kanes are barely scraping by in a rusted-out trailer. Same town, completely different worlds.
Legion and Savannah’s history runs deep. They met as kids, became each other’s first everything, and shared this quiet, intense bond that never needed labels. Their abandoned silo hideaway? 🥺 Ugh, I loved that. It felt like their space in a world that never really gave them a chance.
They haven’t seen each other in three years, but the connection hasn’t faded—if just somehow heavier, more complicated. And now Savannah is expected to marry Marcus, not for love, but obligation. Duty. Control. All tied up in family expectations and money 💰⛓️
For just over 100 pages, this packs a punch. The author does an incredible job laying the groundwork for what feels like a very dark, messy, addictive ride ahead. There are so many threads already in motion, and I’m fully invested 🖤
My one gripe? Savannah being an IG influencer 🙄 I just couldn't get into the whole internal hashtag/headline thing. But honestly? Everything else hit 🔥
And that ending?! Massive cliffhanger 😱 I barely had the self-control not to immediately jump into book two.
Bring on the chaos!

With Legion being caught up in the MC world, Savannah is stuck in an engagement that is all for show, and traditions that only old money brings. Sprinkle in some family drama, and you will be drawn into Legion and Savannah’s story immediately.
Since this is a novella in a five part series, I’m excited to see what the next book brings. Book 1 was very much setting up the background to Legion and Savannah’s complicated and naive history with each other, so it was a bit slow but I’m interested to see how their story plays out. Warning that book 1 ends in a cliffhanger.

This book and series is not for the faint of heart. It is intense. It will make your uncomfortable and uneasy. If you are looking for love and romance, you might want to keep scrolling. With that said, if you are looking for a series that is different, that will make you uncomfortable and uneasy, that will tug at your heart strings and make you feel sorry for the rich girl and sorry for the poor boy, buy and read Dust & Flowers. You won’t be sorry.
Savannah is a rich Montana heiress who has inherited a huge ranch. Yes, she inherited it – not her brothers, and yes, there is animosity among her brothers. She is also in an arranged marriage.
Then there is Legion Kane. To me, Legion is like an onion. The guy has so many layers. The poor guy has never really had happiness in his life other than his younger sister and Savannah. Their friendship started when they were children and has grown. Legion is a sad character who makes you want to reach out to him. He has not had a easy life and it is only going to get harder. After serving 3 years in jail for a crime he didn’t commit, almost as a MC initiation, Legion is heading back home but to what? Strap in and hold on for a wild ride through the Book of Legion.
JA Huss has an intensity that I have not found in other authors. She gets my brain moving in a different way it isn’t used to. Her writing is excellent. She has a very creative brain, a bit scary at times, but creative. I read a lot and I can easily say, Ms. Huss’ books have stuck with me. I might not remember many details about other books I have read but I remember every book of hers. They have left an imprint, like a tattoo, on me.

This was a fantastic start to a great series of books. I absolutely loved Legion and Savannah. This is going to be a great story about overcoming obstacles in life to find the one person you are supposed to be with in life. Savannah is from a rich farm family. She is set to marry a guy that the family deeps acceptable even though her heart belongs to another. Her heart has always belonged to Legion whether he knows it or not. Legion is from a poor background and part of a mc. He just got out of prison after doing three years for something he did not do. He put his club first and now he is rewarded for his loyalty. He has come home to his middle sister being gone and leaving his 9 year old sister to herself. This first book focuses on Savannah's engagement, Legion getting out of jail, and Legion trying to find his place while also caring for his sister. I cannot wait for the next book so we can see what else the author has instore for us and these characters. I absolutely love JA Huss. She has the most unique and fun writing style. She pulls you in from the start and she never lets you go. You cannot wait for more. Her character development is always on point. She gives great background information as well as leaves you wanting more that you know she will deliever in time. If your looking for a great mc book this is a great one to start on.

She is engaged to a senator son Marcus. He expects his club to pick him up, but they never show and in their place is Savannahs brother Cash with a little warning of his own. You see, the Kane land and the Ashby ranch connect. From the time they were much younger Legion and Savannah have been friends, while her mom turned her into a social media sensation with photographs. But she was also taking pictures of stolen moments. Now Cash has a warning, and Legion just can't have that. He and Savannah are crazy, madly, deeply in love with each other. Though they never go out they just meet in the silo, do their things and go their separate ways. This is the book where you will get to know the story of these two. The good, the bad and the ugly. I love that these five novellas are written in the present, but we get to see their past too. I don't want to give a thing away, but I will tell you that this book sucked me in so hard, I couldn't lay it down. Now for the second book because this one left me with my heart in my throat.

This novella packed a punch with secrets, lies, longing, and a forbidden love that led to an addicting, suspenseful, page turner that ended with me yelling WTF and desperately needing book 2!

This novella packed a punch with secrets, lies, longing, and a forbidden love that led to an addicting, suspenseful, page turner that ended with me yelling WTF and desperately needing book 2!

Julie Huss has painted so much depth into these characters. Legion is as rough as they come - and he's had it really rough - but he has the soul of a poet. There is an obvious duality in him. Savannah has everything money can buy, but she's tortured by her love for Legion and the fact that a lot of people have so little.
Additionally, there is a lot going on from steamy moments to conniving and violence. It ends on a cliffhanger insidious enough to ensure that I will definitely be continuing this serial.

Dust & Flowers is the first book in a 5-book series abour MC biker Legion Kane and Montana ranch heiress, Savannah Ashby. Savannah and Legion have been friends since they were 12 and 14. Her mother, Eleanor, was a famous photographer who captured images of Savannah for social media showing a perfect and idyllic life. Eleanor also took thousands of pictures of Legion growing up, but her reasons are unknown at this point. Legion just served a three year sentence for a crime he didn't commit in order to protect the Badlands MC. Savannah stands to inherit the entire ranch but only if she "marries respectably" which explains why she's engaged to a senator's son. These circumstances have not tempered the secret love and passion they've shared over the years. That is, until her older brothers get involved.
Author JA Huss has laid the groundwork for a forbidden love between two people from opposite ends of the wealth spectrum. Just reading the first story in this serial, I can tell that J.A. Huss is going to drag us over the coals. Legion and Savannah are star-crossed lovers from opposite sides of the track, never meant to be together but can't stay away from each other. It is angsty and erotic and heavy on emotion, basically everything I love in a Huss book. And as mentioned, it ends on a cliffhanger, as each serial will, and I can't wait to move on to the next one!
As always, Julie does an amazing job of laying out the visuals of what is going on, what the landscape looks like, how the characters feel. I could almost picture myself standing off to the side, watching everything take place, feel the heat and dust and sweat. I'm already in love with Mercy, she's going to be a firecracker and already reminds me of another little girl left all alone to defend herself, Sasha Cherlin.

This is part of series and ends in a cliffhanger so be warned. I promise you though if you love all books by JA Huss then you won't go wrong with this one and all the others in the series.

When Legion gets out of prison he expects his brothers from the MC to pick him up but instead he has Savannah's brother Cash and with him comes a warning that Legion doesn't like nor want to obey.
In this book, you get to learn about Legion and Savannah along with some of their past. You get to see how it all started with this book. It's a book that you won't want to put down and wanting to read the next one.

I can not remember the last time I read about a poor boy going for the rich girl and I am so here for it.
I really enjoyed visualizing the settings and scenery. In fairness I have a weakness for Montana but reading this tale painted an other, new picture of it in my imagination. My absolute favourite was the party scene and of course I ate up the spice too. (Chef’s kiss)
I am keen and excited to read the second book.
Blood and grace here I come.

I absolutely loved this start to the Book of Legion 5-book serial. J.A. Huss’s writing is fluid, emotional, and immediately immersive. Dust and Flowers grabbed me from the moment Legion is released from prison. His loyalty, inner turmoil, and the weight of his family obligations (especially Mercy 💔) made him impossible to ignore.

Off to a great start!
A great start for this series. I’m intrigued by the serial style of writing, but like the author said, you gotta try something new sometimes.
I enjoyed the small glimpse into this new world. Legion is already going to be a favorite! My heart hurts for him and his family but I’m sure EVENTUALLY he will get his HEA.
I liked the book but truly appreciate the insight from the author in the EOBS. I love Julie’s books. Some more so than others. And that’s life. But Julie as a person has me on a fish hook and I’ll always come back to see what new story she’s cooking up!

Great characters. It’s hard not to like Legion and Savannah, Mercy and Colt. Marcus and Cash can go just away for their selfishness.

The line has been drawn regardless of feelings that developed as they were young children. And there are people who will make sure they never cross the line again…

Wow, oh wow. What a read, This book grabbed me, keeping me interested and reading till the end. I didn't want this story to end. It was so good. It moves along at a comfortable speed making for an easy and enjoyable book. I love these characters and feel as though I know them. They are amazing and felt so real. This is a must read book that needs to be at the top of your TBR list, This book does not disappoint, once you start reading you are hooked on it and will need more.

What a beginning! The Book of Legion's series is the promise of world colliding, of cruelly and poweŕ games all mixed with sweet moments of love.
The main characters, Legion and Savannah intrigued me from the beginning. Their story is definitely deeper than what transpires at first, in true JA Huss fashion.

A great start to this series of 5 novellas. If you enjoy MC books then this is for you. This is a dark gritty story of two worlds colliding, one party where privilege is a given, one where everything is hard fought and not always the right side of the law. But the heart wants what the heart wants and Legion and Savannah have been drawn together like magnets since childhood.
As always a cleverly written plot and well developed characters.

Raw, gritty, conflicted. The first installment in this series sinks its claws in from the start and it will not let you out of its clutches. The vibe is desperate with an edge of dangerous hope. This story captured my interest since chapter one and has me hooked, I’m already reading the next book in the series. I love both main characters and the plot around this story. I’m really enjoying it and feeling the tension and passion between the male and female main characters. I definitely recommend this story.

I loved this book, it's so full of longing it made me ache. Savanna and Legion's story is everything and it has barely even started. They are fighting against such high odds from her powerful family to his club but the need to be together as much as they need the air they breathe. And if you are here for the spicy stuff stick around because they are combustible! Bring on book 2.
