Every family has its secrets, but some are darker than others ...
Whilst taking her granddaughter for a walk by the beach, Lena Honeywell catches sight of her husband, Barry, ushering a strange woman into his beach hut.
Together for over 30 years, she thought their marriage was 'rock solid' and this chance encounter sets off a chain of events with far-reaching consequences ... not only for them, but also for their life-long friends, Barbara and Graham Ellis.
Follow the fortunes of the Honeywell and Ellis families, from growing up in East London in the 1960s through to the present day, in this nostalgic, multi-generational drama.
With twists and turns, touches of humour, realistic characters and an intriguing storyline, this warm-hearted family saga will keep you entertained to the very last page.
Times may change, but all that matters stays the same.
These characters are relatable for any woman 50+. They explore family life in an honest way.especially looking at the expectations of being a wife, mother and grandmother. Growing up in Dagenham.the author weaves in what it was like growing up in the 60's and 70's. The book was moving, funny and entertaining. For the authors first book it was excellent.
Won this on Librarything! Nice flow of writing. Good coverage of women's issues. HOWEVER, way too many characters to keep up with. The main characters, their siblings, their parents, the grandparents and great grandparents of the main characters. Then there are the children of the main characters and their children plus the illegitimate children. And the title, I understand why, but really it does not do the story justice and is not very enticing. The author seems like a nice person and I wish her well with her continued writing.
