Violet, third daughter of the Duke and Duchess of Summersley, is a gentle soul who finds solace in quiet pastimes and solitary strolls through the verdant countryside. If you are in need of comfort, a few hours of undemanding pleasant reading, if you like the Regency period, then this is most definitely the book for you. It is the third book retracing the events surrounding the Summersley family, but can be read as a stand alone, although it might have been a good idea to briefly allude to what had taken place in the previous two books, especially as concerns the reasons for Ambrose's change of character. He is presented as having turned a page in his life but the events which led to this change are not mentioned or even alluded to.
The main characters are all very endearing, whether young or old. Although it could be said that coercive and controlling behaviour is a very contemporary trope, it is cleverly introduced here, a hundred years before it officially became a crime, in a very convincing manner. I really loved the stammering Mr Cox; so gentle and long suffering. I too was encouraged to write with my "good hand". I did not result in speech difficulties but a slight lisp in infancy.
I wonder if the news Estelle has to impart at the end of the novel is the birth of a new baby...although she already has ten children! Maybe it will be connected to Daisy's life. I hope we will get her story in the fulness of time. Thank you Ms Applewhite (aka Julia Brannan). Do continue to write Regency romances as well as your great historical novels from the Jacobite period. Both types are very good and to be recommended.

Book 3 in this series is sweet, empowering and the read I needed to help take me away from all the chaos lurking these days. Once I started Violet I couldn’t put it down. I finished it this morning while having a lovely hurkle durkle. Violet continues the story of the Summersley family and picks up where Ambrose and Estelle left off. The Summersley family patriarch, is embracing his changes and his family and becoming the father and husband they all longed for.
I liked the way Charlotte has written Violet, the gentle, quiet, and thoughtful young woman, who is navigating her first London season. Violet is drawn in by a “gentleman”, effusive with flattery, gifts and a manipulation. He slowly pecks away at Violet’s confidence and nearly succeeds in supplanting her self awareness.
Thankfully the Summersley family are there to support and encourage Violet. When Violet is rescued by young man who sees and respects Violet for the intelligent and compassionate person she is, she soon comes to understand just how disingenuous her betrothed truly is.
I’m looking forward to the next book in this series as we follow the Summersleys.

This was book 3 in Charlotte Applewhite's Summersley series. The storyline took some twists and turns which was good to see. Life of course was different in the Regency period than today and it was good to peak into it. Human traits though carry through the ages. It was a great read.

marvellous

This is a masterly written love story, with great characters who give the readers a good insight into types of personality traits we all should be aware of.
