Star publicist Abby Newman takes only the roughest, toughest and naughtiest rockstars under her belt. Her love of bad boys has warranted her a naughty reputation to boot—but her newest client, country crooner Jason Daniels, is anything but. In fact, Jason’s sweet, wholesome image isn’t in need of a clean-up, so Abby can’t understand why he’s so insistent on hiring her. But, after a few clandestine meetings, she’s quick to realize that the Jason Daniels isn’t exactly the same man in real life that he pretends to be on the radio. In fact, he brings a whole new form of ‘bad’ to the table and, before she can help it, Abby finds herself hopelessly falling under his spell.
I am a quirky writer from the US who dabbles in dark, paranormal and contemporary romance. My stories aren't always typical, but contain a little something for everyone.
An absolute MUST READ! These characters are incredibly likeable. Far from perfect, but that's part of what draws you into their world. This is a HOT read and it leave you panting for more.....bring out book 2 Lana! :-)
It was book closed. Well first I did read the last chapter to find out he was married and there was a cliffhanger....go figure. However, the fact remains that at 54% absolutely nothing exciting had happened unless you count a whole lot of self proclaimed sluggishness trying to play games with a really flat line male character.....I can't even remember their names for this review.....no, no I remember....Abby and Jason. Anyway, this story was going nowhere fast at a slow speed, just not my kind of read. You would think with the title you would get some kind of excitement, but sadly waiting for a snow storm in hell would have been more entertaining.
I felt as if that was me a majority of the time. WHERE do you begin with explaining how much you love a story?
I loved Abby's hard headed self. I loved Jason's seemingly good guy image and his confident self take her own.
What I loved most is seeing two people with even footing trying to get the best of one another.
Abby was an extremely honest character - to the point where I can imagine people saying 'ouch' in their heads. Her relationship with Perry actually softened her a little because I liked seeing how she talks about her relationships being short lived, he stayed in her life.
Lets take a short moment to talk about Perry actually - his character wasn't prominent in the story, but his role was definitely appreciated! I could absolutely understand how he and Abby were able to get along as well as they did! They both understand their addictions (as Lana Sky put it) and because they know, their friendship works around it. I know he's her cousin, but I think it speaks volumes that he's still with her after everything that has happened.
The texting between Abby and Jason - when he really told her how he felt when he first saw her! It was unexpected, but because it was unexpected, it was hot. And really, I think I was in a comatose state when the two of them FINALLY kissed.
The tension between Abby and Jason was believable and I really liked that because he was a nice guy, Abby was able to open up about things she wouldn't normally do. The fact that he got ball busting Abby to let her guard down is something different about him already. He seemed to know exactly the right buttons to push, the ones that got her fired up, but not to the point where she would drop him as a client, but enough to keep her coming back.
And of course Sky doesn’t pull all of her tricks out at once because once I got to the end of the story, I think my expressions happened in this order
I am left SO GAH about the ending! I need the sequel like now! Pretty please with a cute Bagheera on top, Lana Sky?
Following the recent release of her debut novel Drain Me, Sky has chosen to release another of her novels in the form of Dirty Lyrics, a stunning masterpiece that has left me wanting more.
Abigail “the ball buster” Newman is a publicist and she is very good at what she does. She cleans up the messes of rock star rebels and doesn't take crap from anyone. Especially the clean-cut, perfect Southern heartthrob that is Jason Daniels. Nope, not him.
“Ms. Newman,” he corrected gruffly. Then, he turned and every single muscle in my body went limp as his gaze sought out my own. “I need you.”
To her, Jason Daniels is just another client, one that she wishes she hadn't taken on. With his deep, gorgeous blue eyes and his sexy accent, Jason begins to question Abby, something no one has done before. The reigns change hands, the control slips...but Abby doesn't back down from a challenge. After all, they don't call her a ball buster for nothing...
I know that you're coming for me But I ain't going out like that. When guilt runs red, and you're shackled by fear You won't stand so tall when you finally fall. So go on and run, they'll be coming for you boy... For you pulled the trigger, and then it was done.
I thoroughly enjoyed every single word of this novel. I was pulled in from the start. Lana Sky truly has pulled a rabbit from a hat with this novel. Each word is like a brush stroke from Monet, a real work of art.
OH MY SWEET COUNTRY ARSE Can I just start this review off with...
Oh yeah, there shall be spoilers.
Abby Newman is a strong, stubborn PR machine who knows how to handle her washed-up rock star clientele. They're usually easy to appease with a good roll in the hay and they are practically butter in Abby's palm.
Then she meets country-crooner/professional heart-breaker Jason Daniels.
His reputation is squeaky-clean, so when he tells Abby that he needs her help, she immediately shuts him down.
Jason is relentless and invites her to his concert. With some persuasion from her bestie/cousin (and totally spectacular), Perry, she goes with the intent of telling him to shove his concert tickets up his ass.
But, then she hears him sing.
Jason is sexy and mysterious and unlike any other sleazy client she's ever worked with, but more than that, his deep soul seems to ooze out of his eyes in a way that even hard-shelled Abby struggles to resist.
What I liked about this story is that Abby acts as both the protagonist and the antagonist. Her fears and her past shape her decisions and she's so stubborn that she can't understand this. Jason sees this from the start. He is in a similar situation, but he is far more self-actualized than Abby. Instead of running, he confronts his nature because he knows that he has to struggle through it in order to finally be happy. Abby just runs.
So when Jason takes it upon himself to break down Abby's walls and help her understand that she CAN be happy, she does what she does best and the claws come out. There is this constant struggle between her and Jason, but it's stemming from Abby's fears and past and sometimes, you just want to bang the girl's head against a wall (in the best way). She truly is her own worst enemy.
But then he finally is able to break her down and they have a heart-to-heart.
You get to witness Abby's seemingly steel reluctance for true emotion waver, and you start to root for her and for Jason and then WHAM!
HOLY CLIFFHANGER
As if it were some cruel joke, everything that Abby struggled to accept is thrown in her face and you just know, JUST KNOW, that Abby's progression has been regressed ten-fold.
I won't spoil this for you, but holy hell. CAN A GIRL GET PART TWO???
5 STARS for plot, character development, dialogue, and overall delicious writing.
Abby is a hard-assed publicist and Jason is a country superstar. He's asked her to represent her for months and she continues to say no until her boss forces her to go to Jason's concert where she finds a sweet, southern, country gentleman. I won't give any spoilers here, but this book will take you on a ride of sexual frustration, wanting to hit Abby in the throat, and wanting to hump Jason's leg. It's one of those books where you keep saying, "Please get it on already! I need these two characters to GET IT ON!" I won't say if they do or not, but there's a lot more to both characters than first meets the eye. He is a man who seems to have control I've never seen a man have, and who doesn't love a southern man? JESUS. The book does end in a cliffhanger, but that doesn't affect my rating of the book. I looked all over the internet for the second book, but ended up contacting the author, Lana Sky. She hopes to have it out by the end of the summer. I'll be waiting Ms. Sky.
3.5 stars. One of my main complaints is that this could have been longer. Which in the way of complains isn't really one. I feel like an addition of length however could have added something more to this. Abby is an interesting character. Something of a lead who isn't always seen. Her sexuality is a weapon and boy is it interesting. I just wish book two was already here so I could see here develop some more since the amount of character development is quite little - though that's understandable seeing as the short amount of time the story spans over. Jason was fine. A fair sight better than a number of the other male leads I've encountered in romance that I've read lately. An enjoyable read. I just wish there was a bit more to it.
This is one of those books that captivates you from the first pages of it. I started and simply couldn't stop (not that I wanted to). There are so many possibilities within this story and its multi-layered characters that I will be waiting anxiously for next one.
The story of Abby and Jason will continue in Rhythm and Muse, a book I wish I had in my hands right now!
I think this is the third book in a row that I've dnf'ed. Not sure if I should be pointing fingers at the books or at myself. All I know for sure is that I felt absolutely nada for Abby and Jason.
Her entire professional adult life, had been Abby Newman, self-professed slut and unashamed tamer of men. Her unorthodox methods for “conversing” revolved around cleavage and sexual intimidation.
When Jason the country star requested Abby’s publishing experience for a career boost she knew he wasn’t her typical type of client.
Overall: I liked Lana’s approach on this rockstar book. Take what you normally think about rockstar storylines and throw them out the window. This isn’t a typical rockstar storyline. In fact, this rockstar is a country star with a nice guy persona. I must say Lana took naughty to a higher level. Abby was a bold brazen character who gave zero f@cks about image. Her game was to use sex as a means to gain clients by flirting and teasing men.
I liked the naughty side of this country music star. I’m not so sure I liked Abby’s naughty side it seemed unprofessional. Yet, she played dirty well. Abby’s indecent interludes while conducting business wasn’t what I was expecting. She was definitely an unconventional character.
This was a fun read with plenty of dirt and grime. I liked the way she worked in a dark past without defining the characters. They made no apologies for their behaviors.
That cliffhanger ending sucked. WTF was that all about?
Ok I regret reading this. What the heck? The book was interesting, it had me all get caught up only to realise it was released in 2015.....and it ends with a cliffhanger annnnnd yes! there is no update. I get that books deserve to be published but this is really.....a bit unfair to the reader. We don't know how it will continue and it makes me wonder if we ever will and that is kinda unfair.
To the book: I really enjoyed the characters, the writing style and the story. I still think there is a lot more to Jason and Abbie like eg. them knowing each other since they were kids? there being a dramatic real first meeting that made Jason addicted to her? I don't now but there are so darn many scenarios and it makes me very curious to see how this would have continued but its 8 years now and I doubt that will happen.....sad sad sad
Abby is a wonderful publicist and Jason is a country superstar. He has asked her to represent her and she won’t do it until her boss forces her to. Soon sparks are flying between them. Fast-paced read with steamy chemistry and an entertaining story. Looking forward to more in the series. I liked it.
Want to meet a sweet guy with a bad bad body? Heh. How about a guy who can make you loose your inhibitions? Read this book. You won't be disappointed. Promise. Wink! Wink!
This book is an extremely quick read. I have read many of Lana Sky's story this wasn't on those levels. I feel like the beginning was extremely dragging and slow but in a fast pace. I wouldn't say I extremely hated the book as it did have me turning pages.
What makes it worse is that it ends in a cliffhanger.
Not worth the suspense.
This book isn't something I would go to re-read again.
Lana can do no wrong. The character are flawed and they are perfect because of it. It may seem like a regular romance novel, but it's full of surprises that you would never see coming. I want to know their secrets and what will happen next, the book kept me so enthralled I would read it again in no time.
This book had potential in the beginning , but it just kept going in the same circle over and over with no real reason why. I finished it to only realize there is going to be more. ...but not for me, sorry.
This book was amazing, it pack a powerful punch for a short novel..I can't even begin to describe how in love I am with this book...Lana Sky I'm you newest fan.
This is the first book I have read from this author. Sadly it was just okay. It has this big sexual build up between Abbi and Jason and to me it just fizzled. Also it leaves you with a cliff hanger. The next book in the series was suppose to be out in 2015 and yet it still hasn't made it. I didn't get any chemistry between them and then to find out a little secret. I was left feeling like, who really cares?
