The Slow Road to Siena: Walking the Via Francigena Through the Heart of Tuscany

Rate this book
A thousand years of history. One step at a time.In a world that demands speed, Echo Krisko chose to slow down.
The Slow Road to Siena invites readers to walk the Via Francigena—an ancient pilgrim’s path winding through the heart of Tuscany. From the walled city of Lucca to the medieval grandeur of Siena, this is more than a travel book. It is a meditation on presence, stillness, and the quiet lessons that unfold when we let our feet become our teachers.
As Echo moves through villages, vineyards, forests, and rolling hills, she begins to see how the landscape mirrors the inner journey. Guided by the kindness of strangers, the rhythm of her steps, and the unexpected blessings of the road, she discovers that the true destination is not a point on a map, but a new way of seeing the world—and herself.
Beautifully illustrated with vivid, full-color photography, this memoir captures the grace, discomfort, wonder, and transformation that come from walking a pilgrim road.

Echo's account of her journey across Tuscany and into her herself was inspiring. This book is clearly and powerfully written - engaging, warm, and provoking - and her words helped me truly feel that I was with her. Step by step and story by story, you too will see and feel the magic of her transformative week along this ancient spiritual road. Highly recommend!

Author Echo Krisko transported me to the well worn path of pilgrims in Italy. This is a stunning book, a work of beauty in so many ways. I felt like I was walking alongside her, yet I wasn't disturbing her journey. She paints pictures with her words and brings landscapes, foods and people to life in her writing. Krisko's carefully chosen Scripture references gently amplify the spiritual dimension of her narrative. Layer upon layer of experience and reflection play out among the pages, culminating in wise revelations in the Epilogue. Your spirit will be refreshed. And you may find yourself contacting your travel agent for tickets to Italy in the hopes that you could take a similar journey and share the transforming power of slowly walking with intention and an openness to the presence of God.

It was an honor to share Echo's physical and emotional journey. Her writing is expressive and you will feel like you are quietly at her side the whole way. You will learn about her and yourself along the path.
