Dr Ian J. Shaw served as a pastor, before undertaking a PhD in Church History at the University of Manchester. He then lectured in Church History at International Christian College, Glasgow, and is currently Director of the Langham Scholarship Programme in the UK, which supports the training of Christian leaders from the Developing World.
This book is a thorough biography of a man whose life for Christ ought to be studied. Few people live such a blend of private devotion to Christ and practical christianity. Andrew Reed saw needs and gave himself to meet them. Many pastors would have been content with the responsibilities and demands of a church as large as his, but Andrew Reed's christianity did not stop there. As far as he was concerned, it could not because Christ did not stop there either. His labors to relieve needy people -- the poor, children, orphans, mentally challenged and terminally ill -- were untiring. Yet he never lost sight of the complete range of personal needs: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Even when the charities he founded grew to large sizes, he wanted each person treated as a welcome, loved individual who was part of the family. He gave much of his time and money doing just that. He lived charity, the giving of himself in every capacity to show the love of Christ to others.
