Mike Cyra takes us on another hilarious grand tour of the strange medical humor in the real-life world of emergency medicine and surgery. Whether he's assisting trauma surgeons who are singing “Take me out to the ballgame” while removing a well-placed iconic symbol of America’s greatest past time, learning how fast he can run after being shot at by an angry couple who called for an ambulance, working with a prankster-loving urologist who demonstrates how bladder problems were diagnosed before modern urinalysis, or screaming like a little girl while doing night rounds with a dead flashlight on a psychiatric ward, Cyra’s comedic style of storytelling will make your cheeks sore. Emergency Stories of Humor Inside Ambulances and Operating Rooms shows why most health care professionals have such a twisted sense of humor and how critical laughter is to the survival of both patient and care giver.
Author Mike Cyra spent twenty-years working in Emergency Medical Services and Surgery as an Emergency Medical Technician, a Chief Medical Officer on a ship sailing Alaska’s violent Bering Sea, a Surgical Technologist and an Instructor of Maritime Emergency Medicine and Basic Life Support.
Mike Cyra’s debut eBook-Emergency Laughter: It Wasn't Funny When It Happened, But It Is Now, is a collection of hilarious real-life medical stories.
Mike’s comedic storytelling style of writing lets you experience what it’s like to drive an emergency vehicle through traffic, the wrong way to deliver a baby, How to fake unconsciousness, how not to chop all your fingers off and what to do when you find yourself alone in a morgue refrigerator. Stare death in the face and live to tell about it, at the hands of vomiting children and old women who spit food.
Laughter helps the mind, heals the body and is a critical survival tool for all who deal with death, dying and disaster up close. Mike shows that it’s OK to laugh at yourself and the world around you.
Emergency Laughter is an Amazon Kindle bestseller with over five months in the Top 100 Humor books list. It’s #1 in Doctors & Medicine Humor, Humorous Essays and Emergency Medical Services humor eBook categories in the UK & US.

Made it all the funnier, because, since some of the people sounded like those I'd met(as a trauma volunteer) I got to enjoy it that much more. I only wish I had the pleasure of knowing, meeting or maybe remembering Mike. What a wonderful story teller and no one can not read this without laughing themselves into tears. 5-STARS
I have read much better and funnier books about medical areas than this one. The comedy or heart touching stories varied with the storyteller. Some were told by the workers themselves. The best were by the author Mike Cyra. He is a good writer. The first chapter drew me in with laughs and tension which is what so much of medical care is. This is a good book to pick up and read a few chapters and then read another book. (short stories so to speak) I recommend this to health care workers...not so much to others.
Mike captures the audience with his quick with and pure honesty. We've almost all thought along these lines. I'd highly recommend this book for anyone that likes real medical stories. I thoroughly enjoyed the read and am very greatful you chose to share your experiences with the world Mike. Thank you. Thanks for the laughs.
Loved the book. I have been in his shoes, just not as long. I was an EMT and psych tech, story about the patient on the locker rocked me with laughter. This guy is the real deal. Can't get any funnier without causing serious injury from hysterical laughter.
Well written, hilarious lighthearted humour with the occasional serious aspect (which is needed) I found myself laughing out loud a lot (I’m not in the medical profession I just find reads like this interesting and this will go down as one to remember)
Like I said in the title just too short, if you like medical humour, read this book. Medical situations seem so not funny, but often the only way to cope is with humour. Mike does a wonderful job of letting us share in the stories of humanity and the funny parts of some unfunny incidents. Humour allows people to continue in jobs that often would tear people apart if they could not find something funny.
This was a fun, light, read. Certainly something that you can pick up and enjoy between larger books to help clear your mind. This does not mean it is poorly written... in fact the way the author knits the stories together keeps your mind working and meshes the perfect ratio of funny with sad.
If you're in a "People Helping Profession" Read this
If you're a "care worn professional" in a "People helping" profession, read this. Mike has found a way through humor to handle life's demands. His stories will recharge your batteries and remind you you're not alone. Good read.. get ready to laugh and be ready to start again when you thought you might quit.
After reading Mike's first book I knew this one would have me laughing so hard that it hurt. A tribute to the old saying "laughter is the best medicine".
