This is the second collection of stories I have read in a row. This author is new to me so it is interesting to pick up this writer's particular 'voice' and over the course of this book, it comes across well.
Her Online Predator is perhaps the best of a strong bunch of stories, with Marriage On the Rocks a close second (though the male character Roberto was a little to subservient to his wife for my liking). The Undertaker's Wife has a wonderful underlying plot - we can probably see what is coming before the end, and its cool to see the MC freaking out along the way, before the big reveal is made.
All the stories are well written and readable. The stories are different from each other and make for interesting reading. Recommended.
All the stories in “ Heart Warming Tales’ by Brenda Mohammed, reflected on human behavioural aspects. The plots were well constructed to keep a reader engrossed throughout the book. Lot of elements which arouse curiosity is richly applied. The book is full of entertaining surprises.
• The story ‘The caregiver’ gave vital importance to relations The story seemed more like a pleasant novel connecting the reader to real life situations faced by house wives as well spouses. It’s a mix of emotions and tragedy.
• ‘The online predator’ yet another Intriguing story, keep me wondering what will happen next. Love and crime well blended. The ending of this story was as good as how the roller coaster beginning and sequential went. Beautiful story with a well thought storyline.
• ‘Marriage on the Rocks’ had a story line with powerful life lessons. Desire can lead people to big tragedies and one reading this story will realise what the unwanted desire of a housewife lead her to.
It is difficult for me to judge which of the 6 stories in this wonderful book is the best, as I thoroughly enjoyed all of them
Brenda being a reader’s choice gold winner in romance category, I wouldn’t be surprised if this book also makes it to another award for her .Highly recommended and assured amusement.
“Heart Warming Tales” is a collection of short stories, unified by the same theme - love. The mood of each is different: some wistful and sad, some uplifting and inspirational, but each is unique in its own way. Stories of sacrifice, betrayal, deception, hope, and forgiveness are brought to life through a kaleidoscope of characters who only try to find their true love (or struggle not to lose it). Such subject matters as human trafficking, one’s spouse’s failing health, domestic abuse and many more are also revealed through the protagonists’ eyes, which will certainly find a response from many readers. Well-written and easy to read, these stories will definitely warm many hearts. Five stars.
Six well-written, easy to read, and light-hearted stories. By Verified Purchaser 24th December 2017 This review is from Heart - Warming Tales (Paperback) This collection consists of six short stories.
"The Psychiatrist and the Thief" is a story about Dr. Brown who is assaulted by a thief who had previously kidnapped his secretary. In a story that could have had disastrous consequences, the author skilfully turns around the plot and has the thief apprehended. The theme of this story is: "Crime does not pay." The setting of this book and "Her Online Predator," is universal and the events could occur in any business or home. The other stories, "Marriage on the Rocks," "Dead Business," " The Caregiver," and "She Cried for Me," take place in the author's native Trinidad. The theme of the stories is "Love conquers all." In "Marriage on the Rocks," the wife, Maria, is discontented when her wealthy husband gambled away all his money and then moves the family from the city to a rural area where he begins farming the land he had inherited from his parents. She leaves her husband and children and goes to the city in search of adventure. When her husband finds her in a brothel a year later, he is able to forgive her and welcome her back into his life. In "Dead Business", we have a suspicious wife who believes her husband is involved in an underhand activity and decides to spy on him. However, she soon discovers his business is legitimate and he actually runs a big funeral parlor. The couple reconciles in the end and there is no more suspicion on either part. "The Caregiver,"is a story no woman can forget. Lena is torn between two lovers. She has a difficult choice to make. "Her Online Predator," is a story from which each one of us can learn. Be careful with whom you make friends on the Internet. If you love dogs the story "She Cried For Me," will move you to tears. All six stories are uplifting in that they demonstrate the better part of human nature and show how fulfilling life is when people can forgive one another and live in harmony.
I have read My Life as a Banker and enjoyed it, but it is a memoir and I always felt Brenda Mohammed was holding something back, though it is a fascinating book, beautifully written. In these stories, Ms Mohammed retains her style but, free of the restriction of non-fiction, her sense of humour shines through. I particularly liked The Undertaker's Wife. It is only later, drawn back to read them again, I realised the importance of the messages, and warnings, which underpin them. I shall be reading more by this author.
I picked this up as a quick beach read. Heart Warming Tales is a short book of stories with intriguing plots and pleasant characters. Although each story is set within the real world there seems to be a fantastical quality to each. The style of the writing is satisfyingly simple and easy to follow. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book and will certainly check out some of the other titles written by this author.
I found this collection of stories to have a little mix of life in general. I loved the love parts and the sad parts as well. Life is just that way and life also involves suspense at times, so that all of these stories could have happened in real life.
