If you read a Janet Evanovich book you already know that it won’t be something deep and life-altering, it’s always something funny and entertaining though.
So in general I tend to read her books when I’m looking for something hilarious to lighten up my mood or if I just need a quick read between all the other serious books I’m usually prone to read. Needless to say “The Job” delivered exactly what I was looking for and it’s absolutely no surprise I enjoyed the freaky ride. ;-P Well, at least it’s no surprise for me. XD
Kate O’Hare is an awesome kickass heroine and Nick Fox is a sneaky cunning con man! Gosh how I love those two! *lol* They make an awesome couple and I really hope that sooner or later they’ll actually get together, they are just too cute. So Janet, please give me more of those two! I live for their easy banter! XD
The coolest character of this series however is Jake O’Hare, Kate’s retired father. He was in the military and he’s mostly bored out of his mind. *lol* So he seeks action where he can get it and always helps his daughter when she’s in dire need of unofficial help. ;-P
”Of course not. I love living with Megan, Roger, and the grandkids. It’s the family life I never got to have when you and your sister were growing up. And when Megan and Roger aren’t around, I get to teach the kids important life skills.”
“Like how to make explosives out of household cleaning supplies.”
“They’re way past that now,” he said.
“They’re five and seven years old.”
“They’re fast learners. Now we’re working on how to kill a man with whatever you’ve got handy in your sack lunch. Do you remember when you used to practice that?”
“Yeah, you taught me how to smother a man with a sandwich baggie, and how to shove a straw up his nose into his brain. Those are treasured memories. I think of you every time I eat a sandwich.”
“A father can’t ask for more than that.”
Such an awesome guy! Yeah I know Jake is Kate’s father, he’s still damn sexy! Deal with it! *LOL*
All told, I enjoyed this book a lot and I can’t wait to read “The Scam”. Hopefully my library will get it soon. XD

We’re back for Round 3 with Fox and O’Hare. The differences between this one and the first two???? Well . . . I got this one for free because I’M AWESOOOOOOOOOOOME! (okay – I got this one for free because I asked for it, but I like to tell myself it’s because I’m a special snowflake.)

Yep, it takes place on a boat. If you’ve read the previous two Fox and O’Hare books (as well as the 14,726 Stephanie Plum books) you’re already aware that this book will follow the same format as its predecessors with the locale being the only thing that's fresh.
Things that work for me with this series? The “Ocean’s Eleven-ish” cast of characters (everyone from the Feds to former military special ops members to thieves to actors), Fox’s proclivity to borrow the names of 1980s pop culture icons for his fake identities (juvenile, I know, but it still makes me chuckle), and the very few wasted pages (I appreciate that Evanovich, Goldberg, the editors, the publishers and whoever else it is that realize they are dealing with short attention spans when it comes to these novels).
The things that don’t work for me? The narrow focus on ONE plotline. The magic that makes the Stephanie Plum series so successful after all of these decades is the vast amount of capers that occur in each book. Knowing who the bad guy is, how they’re going to trick him, and where the bust is going to go down doesn’t make for real page-turning excitement. Also???? We’re three books in – that’s like the equivalent of 74 dates. Fox and O’Hare need to poop or get off the pot when it comes to the lovemaking.
That might be true, Ms. Evanovich and Mr. Goldberg . . . but BARELY.
Bottom line? These books are pure brain candy. Sure, there’s no nutritional value, but sometimes you want to eat awhole bag couple hundred pages anyway.

What a ride!!! This was a fun book!
Kate and Nick are well rounded characters that, at this point, are three books into their story. I really liked Kate. She was a badass and smart as a whip. Nate was a charmer and as slick as they come! I totally had a crush on him by the halfway mark. But Jake was my favorite. He stole the show! Jake was Kate’s dad and I loved every minute we got of him! In fact, the entire ensemble was fantastic! I connected with each character and found myself ordering the first two books before this one was finished with this one.
I am a sucker for a good mystery and this book did not disappoint. Following the clues with Kate and Nick was a true adventure! I laughed out loud and tried to out con the con. The banter between Nick and Kate is priceless.
On top of the fun and almost Ocean’s Eleven feel to the story, the humor was king of this book. I loved how it made me laughed! The balance between dialogue, action, mystery and humor was perfect! This was my first Evanovich book, but it will not be my last!

Action, comedy and a little romance.
I've tried to read Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series, but it doesn't do it for me. Maybe it is the periphery love triangle. IDK. But this series really gets my motor going LOL.
This one is just as funny and captivating as the other two books. Nick and Kate are awesome together. Throw in a rocket launcher or two, the strange band of accomplices and you have a story you cannot put down.

The Job by Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg is a 2014 Bantam/ Random House publication. I was provided a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This is one of my favorite series at the moment. I love the plots, the dialogue and the chemistry between Nick and Kate. The stories are humorous in places, tense in others, always filled with action making it impossible to stop turning pages. If you like books that involve clever cons, taking down sleazeballs, and a little romance, you have got to check into this series. I think everyone could enjoy these books.
Nick is an incredibly crafty art thief paying his penalty by working undercover with the FBI. This is how he and Kate wind up working together. It is Kate's job to keep Nick in check, which is a very big challenge. When a series of art pieces are stolen, it looks like Nick is up to his old tricks, but Kate knows right away he is being framed. This investigation leads them to an international drug ring and to one of Nick's former partners in crime, a woman he has a history with and owes a big favor to. An elaborate plot to reel in the baddies was one of the best adventures to date. Being in on the scheme was part of the fun, since the reader gets to see how it's all set up and then we get the pleasure of seeing if it will all go as planned. Of course the story would not be complete without Kate's dad, Jack, who pops in to give his daughter a hand. Jake, of course is one my favorite characters.
In this third book, Kate sinks a little further away from her strictly “by the book” rules, which was curious. This is a character development I really liked, since in real life, not everything is either black or white. Seeing the big picture has Kate learning to go with the flow more. Of course Nick is a huge influence on her even if she is still in denial about her feelings for him.
This series really does get better with each installment. I am falling hopelessly in love with Nick Fox! Relentlessly entertaining. I loved it!! 5 stars!

The Job has the same problems I mentioned in my reviews of the first two books in this series. My main problem is that the series is plot driven with little character interaction or development. They are stock characters and now that we're to book 3 there should be time for some more character development. That's it for the complaining.
I must have really been in the mood for an action packed, implausible yet fun read yesterday and The Job fit the bill. The book starts with Kate in the middle of an op, but it gets wound up in the first few pages then Kate and Fox are globe trotting around the world at first to find out who's pulling off robberies using Nick's face, then the two (and crew) pull a con on a really bad guy to get revenge for a former partner of Nick's. There's heists, an exploding car, a boat chase, a Bondesque bad guy lair and more.
I actually laughed out loud during a scene with bad guys in an ally in Portugal. Other highlights were Kate's dad and the two bad guys, Menendez and Reyna. For an Evanovich novel, they're really bad.

Someone is trying to frame master thief Nick Fox for a series of robberies. His FBI handler (Kate O'Hare) and he are reunited to help capture a drug lord, who has undergone plastic surgery and is hiding out in Europe. To catch his attention, they decide to sell the location of a long lost shipwreck with millions in gold. The underwater adventure lends a little Clive Cussler/Dirk Pitt feel to this novel. Kate and Nick are a bit shallow, but are nicely supplemented by secondary and tertiary characters, who are awfully fun and happily recurring.

I didn't love the con or the action so much in this one, so all three stars are for an awesome group of characters, and banter for days
The banter and humor alone can still carry one of these books but I just was not as interested in the con itself or the bad guy they were targeting.
I also missed Jake doing something insane, his role seemed less dire in this one
The Kate and Nick chemistry is heating up a bit too so maybe we will see that in future books!

FIRST READ (01/2018) Con Man Nicholas Fox and Special Agent Kate O'Hare are at it again!! I have tremendously enjoyed the Lee Goldberg and Janet Evanovich Team. Their Chemistry really works, and I feel more tension, passion, frustration, lust, all in the name of say work? This book is wonderful. This is one of the best books with Nick and Kate in them. Talk about a dynamic duo. How can you not like them. So, here is our FBI agent who will team up with Nicholas Fox while letting folks think that she is out looking for Nick, as she is he only one that has caught him. Nick is perfect. Suave, debonair I find that the two of them are a hoot together. The chemistry of the two of them together, throw in sexual tension that they both feel, and Poof, what a great book.

I would like to thank Net Galley and Random House for the opportunity to read another fabulous Janet Evanovich novel, The Job.
I have never been disappointed with Janet Evanovich’s stories before and she did not fail to entertain me again. Her quirky and unique characters, along with the humorous writing, keep me in stitches as we work to solve the mystery. She does a fantastic job as bringing them to life through her words.
Kate believes Nick when he says he didn’t do it. I love them and, even though he is a fantastic specimen with a good boy/bad boy thing going on, she doesn’t jump right into bed with him. I like that there is no instalove, though sometimes I wonder how she resists. lol
Nick is hotter than a stolen Ferrari and just as fast, sleek and dangerous.
I love the lively banter and Janet Evanovich can pull it off extremely well. Her writing style makes the story flow smoothly and the reading easy. I eat up her books like the M&Ms I love so much.
I love the scene where Willie is driving a 797 F heavy equipment dump truck. Totally cracked me up. I couldn’t help but laugh as the words developed into a film unrolling in my mind.

This was a fun little read....and super quick too. I like the characters and their quirkiness. I think that is what this dual author partnership does well. I like the way Nick and Kate bounce back and forth.
The story line was a little far-fetched for me, but it was still entertaining. I liked the pace. It was always going somewhere and the scenes weren't dragged out. Gratification wasn't delayed, but doled out all along the way.

Possibly being a bit generous with the rating because only 4 days later and I only vaguely remember the plot. But if you liked the first two in the series, you will enjoy this one. It maintains the action, humor, and creative cast of characters. I really enjoyed reading it!

My favorite heist of the series!
It’s definitely not the most convoluted on paper but it has my favorite elements: pirates, old world gold, a wacky villain....sign me up!
As always the secondary characters are as vivid as the main pair and the dialogue full of quips and jokes makes the reading a super pleasant activity; as always Jake is the MVP of the bunch and his ex-military buddies are hilarious, and also, the dynamic between Willie and Boyd in this heist was pretty funny too.
I love how Kate and Nick’s relationship is evolving, it feels natural and rewarding and I can’t wait for them to take the final step and get together, they’re definitely not ready yet, but oh I’m starting to see it.
Getting to know about Nick’s past definitely helped adding depth to his character (so far it was pretty much one sided) and it definitely gave Kate another way of getting to know the man behind the mask of conman.
The villain of the day is straight out of a superhero comics: he’s brutal and maniacal and so over the top in everything he does and is that you’re left struggling between being horrified and laughing at the same time.

"The Job", the 3rd installment the in the Fox and O'Hare series from Janet Evanovich is a pleasant, formulaic romp and tease. The relationship between Fox and O'Hare doesn't seem to be moving forward...or backwards for that matter. The verbal sparring isn't all that witty and the tension between the two characters is far less palpable than in the first book. The caper to con and capture a drug czar could've been far more interesting than it was made. Nothing in this book is fully developed, not the plot and not additional depth to the characters. It's a very easy read and took me only a day to finish up. A great book for traveling on a plane; you won't feel bad to leave the paper copy behind for someone else. I've always like Ms. Evanovich's sense of humor and writing, but with each successive series she begins the appeal and content gets weaker.

This is a bog standard thriller. All of the Evanovich boxes are checked -- action, sex appeal, crime, weapons and girls kicking ass. Unfortunately, one box remains unchecked, which is color. What I love the Plum books for is their color. You don't just feel for the characters, you feel for the extras and you feel for New Jersey. Very little of that here.
The story is about a con being pulled on an international baddie, with the help of the heroine's crew and her hero, a dashing thief and conman. The crew is colorful in their own right, but I wasn't moved to care about them. For the most part, their eccentricities were either plot devices or, in the case of the overactor, annoying. The plot itself is slick, perhaps too slick, as catching the crooks is easy for the heroine.
It's well-written and it moves well, but overall, it wasn't up to the standard I expect from this author.

I love this book! It's like Oceans 11 and Indiana Jones all wrapped into one. The quirky, funny voice Evanovich uses in her books is toned down a bit, but her style shines through. Add the element of mystery and intrigue from Lee Goldbergs books and they become the dynamic duo. It's a lighthearted look at fantastic heists and the world of underhanded con artists and criminals. A seriously non-serious look at devious criminal minds which underlying g sparks of romance. I truly enjoyed reading The Job.

Here’s the thing about this series—it hit the ground running. So while it hasn’t necessarily gained momentum, it’s kept a steady pace, and at this speed that’s no small feat. Things I didn’t care for before are the things I find myself enjoying now. The procedural tone of the story, for instance, was an issue for me because I wanted more detail and character perspective. While I’d still like to see a bit more of the characters’ emotions (particularly Nick’s), at this point, I think the rapid fire telling is what makes the pacing of the story so exhilarating. The excitement starts from the very first page and doesn’t let up. When I finish one of these books, it feels like I just opened it!
In The Job, Kate and Nick join forces once again to track down the mysterious caper who is impersonating Nick while ‘heisting,’ and then move on to bigger and better things to capture a drug lord who’s altered his appearance in an attempt to dodge justice. There’s not much to say about Kate and Nick; their personalities have been established, and this story kept with their characterization.
“I considered selling him a resort development that’s a ghost town near Puerto Banús. The financing collapsed and it was abandoned when it was half-completed.”
“But you don’t own the land.”
“I don’t let insignificant details like that concern me.”
As with the previous two, the sexual tension was present here. While it’s clear they’re attracted to each other, it’s hard to know how deep those feelings actually go. Would Nick risk his neck for Kate? Since glimpses into his thoughts are rare and our heroine is more than capable of saving her own hide that still remains a mystery. Am I ready for them to heat up the sheets? Hell, yes! Nick propositions Kate any chance he gets, and his favorite cover seems to be them either being married or being lovers. Besides that, his personality is so playful, I want to see what he’s like in bed! So there may have been a fair amount of screaming at my Kindle in this third installment—GET THEM INTO BED ALREADY! (And while I am ready to see this, the build-up has been entertaining!)
These books are very formulaic—each story revolves around Kate and Nick working together to bring down another con man. But the formula is fun, and it hits all of my reader buttons. For me, the plot is merely the backdrop bringing Kate and Nick together; it’s their banter that’s my favorite part of the books.

Nick kicked his shoes off and stretched out on the bed, hands behind his head. “We need to change hotels. I have standards.”
“You need to change hotels. I’m fine. I have no standards.”

Well…the banter and the secondary characters, that is! The cast in this book is such a motley crew, you can’t help but enjoy them! I love the way they were introduced in this one. If you’ve seen Armageddon, there’s a scene where Liv Tyler’s character is giving you the run-down on each player, and the camera is following that person down during her description. That’s what it felt like here. Boom—this is what they’re like, here they are, on with the show! Some of my favorites from the past—Willie and Boyd—were present, along with some new faces that I’m sure will crop up in future installments. Kate’s dad was here again, offering his questionably sage advice, and pulling out all the stops to get his ex-military buddies in on the game.
My only gripe—I was lucky because I didn’t start reading this series until just before the third one came out; now I have to wait for the fourth. Unfortunately, patience is not my forte!
Overall, The Job was a quick, fun read that leaves me waiting with baited breath for the next one!

Totally enjoyed this one, it's fast, funny, entertaining, definitely can tell what Janet Evanovich wrote and went it felt like it was a TV Show, guess that was Lee Goldberg's part.
Just like with Stephanie Plum, she creates a totally new character FBI Special Agent Kate O'Hare a likable one, that's tough as nails and likes Toblerone Chocolate Bars.
It's an international thriller, that has a thief globe trotting stealing historic relics, masquerading as Nicholas Fox, from places from his past and has Kate and Nick in disguises hot on their trail. The thief turns out to be a underling of Nick's, who was trying to get his attention, then sets the dynamic duo hot on the trail of a chocolate loving, brutal leader of a global drug-smuggling empire and who also has had plastic surgery.
They'll bring the group back together, as they'll try to capture the deadliest adversary, they've ever faced and were one mistake on their part could lead to the groups death. With 'The Job' you'll learn just how badass Kate and Nick are, even if the story gets a little hokey at times and nice for a change to read something that makes you laugh a little.

Kate is in a tight spot. It appears that Nick Fox is up to his old tricks. He's stolen a Matisse from the Gleabery Museum of Art in Nashville. He says he didn't do it, but they have a video with his face clearly visible. Then come robberies in Turkey, Germany and France. Kate knows it can't be Nick. He's with her, but who wants to incriminate him? And why?
The third installment of the Fox and O'Hare novels is as action packed and hilarious as the previous two. In fact, I liked it better than “The Chase.” I thought the con was more fun. The sexual banter between Nick and Kate reaches a new height when they pretend to be married.
The cast of characters includes old favorites, Willie, Boyd, and Tom, and, of course, Kate's dad, Jake. He's one of my favorite characters and lives up to his role in the previous exploits.
If you're looking for a fun read, this is it. The series is well done, if you're in the mood for escapist fiction. I'm eager to see what they do next!

The first Stephanie Plum novels by Evanovich were great fun, but devolved into the same plot with slightly different minor characters and little change. I gave up on them.
But I thought this newer series might fit the fill for my lighter reading. I hoped the addition of author Lee Goldberg would help. I was disappointed.
This book does not have the silliness of the Plum series, but it didn't have anything to draw me in. The characters were more caricatures, insubstantial cut-outs. The plot was stale, nothing that I haven't read, with slight variations, before. Nothing to set it apart from too many others of its ilk. I just didn't care. There was nothing offensive about it, nothing too graphic or over the top. It was just too easy to forget.
It took me four days to read this easy, less than 300 page novel. And that is because I would read a few pages, get bored, and walk away. I won't be reading more in this series.

This book was a fast read and great fun. The writing is fluent and the story is fast paced. We meet the main characters Kate, the FBi officer, and Nick, the con man, who are working together to trick criminals. Once again they are aided by Kate's dad, ex-military, an actor, a woman who can drive about anything, and a builder. I have to say that I loved to read how they built the ship to resemble a research vessle that is on a treasure hunt, and how they built the virtual reality computer world to pretend that they are actually searching for treasures in the ocean. Fascinating details that are highly imaginative. The characters are very likable and the air is sizzling between Kate and Nick. This is their third con together and they get better every time. This book is not as violent as the last one, which was a plus, I enjoyed it a lot and I can not wait for the next book.

This, the third book in the series, like the previous ones, won't disappoint...
You'll find as with all the Lee Goldberg work, a great plot unfolding, fast-paced super-action, funny and pleasant characters, plenty of humor in dialogue and all the way a pleasant and entertaining book if you like this style...
No wonder the TV show "White Collar" was created based on this work, yet, I feel the books are better, mainly because in the books the female protagonist is still with us all the way, while in the TV series, they decided to replace it with a male character that's also fun and entertaining, yet is not really the same... however, I do agree with the TV producers idea, since the female protagonist has the "super-woman" complex and that's unrealistic and not very authentic for a TV audience...
But, the series, and this book also, is a good one, so it's worth your time... I for one, I can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series...

This series is so much fun. Think White Collar meets The Mentalist meets Mission Impossible .

The Job, is another fast paced action packed story, that is as exciting and funny as the previous books. The story travels from one part of the globe, to the next. The main goal is to bring down one of the world’s worst criminals. Nick puts together the perfect con; with the help of Kate, her father, and several other colorful characters they’ve collected along the way.
The father/daughter relationship and banter between Kate and Jake is so funny, I love it! The only relationship I love more is between Nick and Kate, with all their pent up sexual frustration.
I have been listening to this series and I have loved Scott Brick’s delivery and I hope he remains throughout the series. There is nothing else to say other than I loved it....Sara

Dear Ms. Evanovich,
Readers, in general, prefer quality over quantity. So it's okay, it REALLY is -- we don't *need* two books a year in each of your series. I promise. What we need -- and want -- are well-written characters, good plot, snappy dialogue. I know you surely must have once possessed a creative spark, otherwise how did you get so famous? Please recapture that spark and stop pumping out mediocre, trite books just for the paycheck. I know the money's nice... but isn't integrity nicer?
