So guess who I’m accidentally living with? My ex. My brother’s best friend. And the grump I never got over.
Silas King is the absolute last man I want answering the door when I arrive in a bathrobe, one heel, and a storm of regrets. He’s off-limits, impossible, and somehow even more gorgeous than the day I left.
Then the door jams, the storm hits, and somehow the universe decides we’re roommates.
Every sarcastic jab sparks. Every accidental touch lingers. And every moment with his daughter pulls me deeper into the life I’m terrified to want.
He helps me clean up my chaos. He laughs when he thinks I’m not looking. He watches me like the past never stopped mattering. And that’s when it hits me—I’m falling for him again.
But just as I start to believe we might get a real second chance, my old life swoops in with a career offer I’ve fought years to earn.
The problem is, if I walk away this time…it won’t just break his heart—it’ll shatter mine.
Although I thought this was a funny story for what was presented there was no real meat and potatoes as far as context. This felt disjointed. We are given no real reason as to why her brother, Ethan, would send her the wrong key. That just seemed odd and distracted me. And why exactly was she traveling in her robe and slippers? There was her ex-Silas now living in the home, and we are never told why and how his child came about in the relationship. Other than Maddie, who has her mom’s laugh. So, was that part of why she left that, although she knew about Maddie, it was too much because he cheated? So she went after her dream or was it their child, and she couldn’t handle being a mother and left? She was sweet with Maddie and tried to talk with Silas but was cut short. What I don’t understand is why her brother would tell her it's okay to stay there if her is no longer the owner of the home? Why would Silas put him through it anyway? And why did Brielle leave New York anyway? So many unanswered questions. But like I said what we do get is quick-paced banter that is funny and Maddie makes it sweet.
Although this was a super cute read, it definitely had some missing details that needed to be included. It left me bridging the gaps myself and assuming things that might have happened. I understand it being a short story, but it has so much potential. I love the characters and the storyline, but would have enjoyed this more if the much needed back story, or details of characters were shared.
There's obviously a serious and heartbreaking past between these two. Unfortunately, the author never lets her readers in on what happened that led to their split and our fmc leaving three years earlier. Without that piece, it's missing a chunk of it's story, heart, and impact. There's estrangement, a kid (not hers) who seems to eavesdrop a lot, and temporarily living in a house that's her brother's. So many questions. A prequel or prologue would be helpful.
While I applaud anyone who writes a book, I am frustrated by unexplained things like gaps or defying time. But I am beyond frustrated by unexplained details in order to be creative. I understand this when you're writing a mystery, but a romance? Basic premise was good, but didn't enjoy the esoteric writing style.
Alright so this was a sweet, short read that I got for free. I enjoyed the moments between Brielle and Silas, and Maddie was adorable. I laughed more than once and did enjoy many of the moments between the characters.
I did, however, feel that chapters 1 and 2 felt disjointed and I was left with more questions than answers. I still can’t tell if Maddie is Brielle’s daughter or not. I also felt like there could have been a few more chapters to really flesh out events and the ending could have been a little more earned.
For the most part I did enjoy this story and thought it was a sweet, cute, short read.
This is a clean, sweet romantic comedy. I love the characters and the plot is entertaining. I would have loved to read the backstory, because that would have helped to understand everything better. It is still a nice, relaxing read!
Nice story but not a romance. Opening scene was funny, the daughters antics were cute but entire story was about how main characters were feeling about past and how uncomfortable they were feeling in the moment. Nice happy ending but would have liked more.
