Cora Taylor disappeared 54 years ago, and no trace of her was ever found. Now her sister has enlisted the help of Andrea Flynn and Kathleen Williamson in finding out what happened to Cora. The two are known for their ability to solve cases that are puzzling the police, and Mary Taylor is confident they can uncover Cora’s fate. Andrea and Kathleen are doubtful they can find the answer Mary is looking for, but they decide to try. They start researching, and the case becomes more complicated when someone who was close to Cora, a likely suspect in her disappearance, is murdered. The more the sister sleuths investigate, the more complex the situation becomes. How did expensive jewelry end up in Cora’s possession? Who knew moonflowers were poisonous and stole them from Andrea’s deck? Was the Mafia involved somehow, and what about the accusations against a jealous wife? And when a second suspect is murdered, are the sisters and Mary in danger, too?
Helen Haught Fanick is a member of a large family of writers. Her mother published many children's stories, her brother is a newspaper editor and nonfiction writer, her son is a successful mystery novelist, and nearly everyone else in the family writes poetry or short stories.
Helen grew up in West Virginia and now lives in Texas, and both states provide settings for her novels. Her work includes cozy mysteries, suspense novels, a World War II espionage novel, and short stories, all available through Amazon for Kindle. The novels are also available in paperback.
A short story impressed Helen’s fifth grade teacher, and she’s been writing ever since. She’s won several local and state awards and two national awards in the Writer’s Digest Competition. Moon Signs, Book I of the Moon Mystery Series, was a quarter-finalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Awards.
This is the fourth in the series and is not set in Canaan Valley. The sisters are in their neck of the woods in West Virginia looking into the disappearance of Cora Taylor who has been missing for 54 years. A real cold case.
There were plenty of suspects, twists and turns to keep me interested. I found the information on the jewelry fascinating.
I thought the narrator did a good job to enhance the story. She used many different inflections to portray the various characters.
The Moon Mystery Series by Helen Haught Fanick is one of my favorite mystery series and "Moonflowers" is a wonderful addition to the series. I love following Kathleen and Andrea as they become involved in solving one mystery after the other. This time, one of their neighbors, Mary Taylor, who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, has asked the sisters to look into the mysterious disappearance of her older sister, Cora, that happened many years ago. At first, Kathleen and Andrea don't hold out much hope of discovering what happened but they are determined to give it their best shot. If you haven't read this series yet, I highly recommended you do!
This story takes place in the sisters' hometown rather than in Canaan. We meet many new characters and relationships that will expand in future stories.
