Ghosted MD: The Awakening is the first book in a supernatural thriller romance series following cardiologist Stacey Dimas. When her patient, Jason, dies, he comes back as a ghost with unfinished business and Stacey is the only one who can see him. Convinced that his death was no accident, she agrees to help him find out the truth.

The story has a supernatural element that adds stakes both to the investigation and the romance. Stacey and Jason are trying to uncover the truth behind what happened to him, wading through facts and memories that are slowly returning to Jason, all the while having to survive the very real threat posed by the living criminals they’re investigating, and by an unfriendly supernatural entity. As for the romance, it goes without saying that theirs is an impossible love, which makes it tragically beautiful and impossible not to root for. I really do hope they have a happy ending!

While the instant connection between Stacey and Jason is fascinating and might hint at the reason she is the only one who can see him, I would have enjoyed a slower burn to make their impossible love even more excruciating. It is also my understanding that this story is thought of as a possible TV show, for which it works perfectly. However, there were instances where the writing style felt closer to a script than a novel, particularly with the flashback sequences, and it took me some getting used to.

Add this thriller romance to your tbr if you love:
💕 Lucifer meets Ghost vibes
💕 genre-bending fiction that blends supernatural, crime drama and medical drama
💕 guardian angel MMC
💕 unlikely partners
💕 redemption arcs

A little fun fact about me: I love stories where there’s a person who can communicate with ghosts, or one ghost in particular. In fact, Just Like Heaven is one of my favorite romcoms, and Ghost Whisperer is one of my favorite shows. I even wrote one when I was a young girl.

Ghosted MD: The Awakening is that type of story. It’s the first book in a genre-blending series that mixes supernatural elements with investigation, medical drama, romance and a touch of humor. Think Lucifer meets Ghost.

It follows Stacey Dimas, a brilliant cardiologist who witnesses the hit and run of Jason Walker. She tries to save him, but he dies at the hospital after seemingly being on the road to recovery. Stacey however can’t shake the feeling that his death was no accident, but she never expected to see Jason again—as a ghost. And she’s the only one who can see him. After the initial shock, she agrees to help him uncover the truth, becoming entangled in a world of crime, danger and supernatural intrigue.

The book definitely has a lot of elements that I enjoy: the thriller/investigation aspect, the humor that lightens the overall tone of the story, and the impossible connection between Stacey and Jason, divided by death. I’m a sucker for this sort of romances, even though I spend most of the time hoping there will be some supernatural solution that will provide the couple a happy ending. What I enjoy most about thrillers is the opportunity to investigate alongside the characters and figure out what happened and who is the culprit. I have my ideas, but I will have to wait for the next books to see if I’m right.

The story is also meant to become a show, and I can definitely see it. While I was reading, the scenes were presented in a way that made it easy to picture things as if you were watching scenes on TV. However, there were some moments that I had some difficulty, like instances where the characters are recounting a past event and you simultaneously read the characters talking to each other but also flashback moments without a clear break between the present and the past. If I picture it as me watching a show, I can easily imagine the switch between the present and the past, maybe even with a voiceover smoothening the transition to the past. As a book, I would have preferred a clearer break between past and present.

Here are the tropes!
Ghost with unfinished business
Only one person can see/interact with the ghost
Reluctant amateur sleuth
Unlikely Partners
Murder Mystery
Guardian Angel
Animal companion sensing the supernatural
Redemption Arcs

Rating 3.5⭐️

Ghosted MD: The Awakening takes medical drama, paranormal romance, mystery, and suspense and throws them all together in the most unexpected way.

Stacey and Jason’s connection was definitely one of my favorite parts. She’s trying to make sense of these strange visions and the fact that Jason is suddenly very much… present, even though he’s not exactly alive. And the more Stacey digs into what happened to him, the more secrets, danger, and questions she uncovers. I loved the mystery of it all and constantly wondering what was really going on.

This was such a unique blend of spooky, romantic, suspenseful, and even funny moments. The chemistry between Stacey and Jason gives the story its heart, while the supernatural mystery kept me turning the pages. If you like your romance with a little Ghost-meets-Law & Order-meets-supernatural chaos, this one is definitely worth checking out.

Tropes you’ll find:
👻 Ghost romance
🩺 Medical thriller
🔎 Mystery & suspense
✨ Paranormal romance
🖤 Love beyond death
🔥 Slow-burn connection
🚨 Crime & danger
🌙 Supernatural intrigue

Huge thanks to the author for gifting me a copy! All opinions are my own.

Book Review: Ghosted MD: The Awakening
Author: Nafsika Antypas

There is something fascinating about a story that begins with an attempt to save a life but gradually unfolds into a mystery surrounding death itself. Ghosted MD: The Awakening by Nafsika Antypas caught my attention with its unusual premise, bringing together the world of medicine, supernatural mysteries, suspense, and romance. The idea of a doctor becoming the only person capable of helping a ghost uncover the truth about his death immediately creates curiosity. It promises a story where the impossible becomes part of everyday life and where every answer seems to lead to another question.

Dr. Anastasia “Stacey” Dimas is a brilliant cardiologist who is accustomed to facing life-and-death situations. However, nothing in her medical experience could prepare her for Jason Walker. After she tries to save his life, Jason dies under suspicious circumstances, but his story does not end there. Returning as a ghost, he finds himself unable to move on without discovering what really happened to him. Stacey becomes his unexpected connection to the living world, drawing her into an investigation that is far more dangerous and complicated than she could have imagined. This setup creates an intriguing foundation for a mystery filled with uncertainty and unexpected discoveries.

What makes the premise especially appealing is the unusual relationship between Stacey and Jason. Their connection develops under extraordinary circumstances, with one trying to understand the secrets of the living world and the other struggling to find answers beyond the boundaries of life and death. Their partnership adds an emotional dimension to the investigation, making the story about more than solving a mysterious death. The possibility of a growing romantic connection creates another layer of tension, as their circumstances challenge what a relationship can realistically become. It is an interesting concept that leaves plenty of room for emotional depth and memorable moments.

Another aspect that makes this book appealing is the combination of supernatural suspense and a dangerous investigation. As Stacey and Jason begin uncovering hidden truths, secrets and deception threaten to turn their search for answers into something much more serious. I love stories that gradually reveal information and encourage readers to question what they think they know, and this premise offers plenty of opportunities for that kind of experience. The medical setting adds a distinctive touch, while the paranormal elements introduce unpredictability. The balance of mystery, danger, emotional vulnerability, and romance gives the story an identity that feels different from a conventional detective novel or a typical paranormal love story.

Overall, Ghosted MD: The Awakening by Nafsika Antypas sounds like a compelling choice for readers who enjoy stories that cross the boundaries between reality and the supernatural. With a determined cardiologist, a ghost searching for justice, suspicious circumstances, and a connection that neither character could have anticipated, the book offers an intriguing combination of mystery and emotion. I especially appreciate the central idea that even after death, unanswered questions and meaningful connections can continue to shape a person's journey. If paranormal mysteries, slow-burn romance, and unexpected twists are your kind of reading, this book deserves a place on your reading list.

Ghosted MD: The Awakening is an intriguing blend of paranormal mystery, supernatural suspense and slow-burn romance that immediately caught my attention with its unusual premise. Dr. Anastasia “Stacey” Dimas is a cardiologist who saves the life of a mysterious stranger, only for him to return after his suspicious death—not as a patient, but as a ghost. What follows is a fascinating journey into secrets, danger and a connection that begins to blur the boundaries between the living and the dead.

I particularly enjoyed the dynamic between Stacey and Jason. Their relationship develops against an atmosphere of mystery and uncertainty, making the romance feel intertwined with the larger investigation rather than simply placed alongside it. As they uncover the truth behind Jason’s death, the revelations gradually deepen the intrigue, with secrets and unexpected turns keeping the story engaging. And while the premise is mysterious, the book is also genuinely funny. The humour caught me completely by surprise and honestly made me root for the story even more. I also loved the cute character of Fluffy, whose presence added an extra touch of charm to the narrative.

The supernatural element gives the book a distinctive charm, while the medical setting adds an interesting layer to the narrative. There is something compelling about watching Stacey navigate between what can be explained and what cannot, especially as the line between the living and the dead becomes increasingly blurred.

Ghosted MD: The Awakening is an atmospheric and entertaining read that brings together mystery, romance, the paranormal and humour in a refreshingly unconventional way.

When Jason returns as a ghost after his suspicious death, their unusual connection becomes the key to uncovering the truth. The premise offers an intriguing mix of suspense and supernatural elements, with plenty of questions to keep readers invested.

What makes the story particularly compelling is the partnership between Stacey and Jason. As they investigate the circumstances surrounding his death, they find themselves drawn into a dangerous web of secrets and deception. The growing emotional connection between a living woman and a ghost adds another layer to the mystery, creating a relationship shaped by uncertainty, longing, and the boundaries between two worlds.

A great choice for readers who enjoy paranormal fiction with a touch of romance and a mystery at its heart, Ghosted MD: The Awakening promises an engaging journey filled with unexpected revelations. Honestly, the plot of this book is what caught my attention. A doctor trying to save someone and then having to deal with him coming back as a ghost is not something you come across every day. I was curious to see how Stacey and Jason's story would unfold, especially with the mystery surrounding his death.

I enjoyed the mix of romance and suspense, and liked that there were some lighter moments too. Stacey's situation is definitely not an easy one, and I can only imagine how strange it must be to find yourself caught up in something like this. The connection between her and Jason added another interesting layer to the story.

I also liked that there was more going on than just the romance. Trying to figure out what happened to Jason kept the story interesting, and the supernatural side made it different from a typical mystery. Overall, it was an entertaining read with an unusual storyline. I'm curious to see how things develop in the next book!

Ghosted: The Awakening brings together suspense, romance, supernatural elements, and humour in a way that makes the story feel refreshingly different. The idea of a love story that exists between the living and the dead immediately gives the book an intriguing hook, while the mystery and danger add enough tension to keep things moving.

I especially liked the genre-blending nature of the story. It doesn't stay confined to being a supernatural mystery or a romance; there are moments of suspense, lighter humour, emotional vulnerability, and genuine warmth woven throughout. The fast-paced dialogue also adds to the overall energy, making the story feel lively rather than overly dark despite the themes of death, grief, and justice.

At its heart, Ghosted: The Awakening seems to be about an extraordinary connection that refuses to be limited by the boundaries between life and death. It balances the darker aspects of its story with humour and heart, making it an enjoyable read for anyone who likes their supernatural fiction with romance, mystery, and a little chaos thrown in.

What an unusual combination of genres! I went in expecting a medical story, but the ghost element added a whole different twist to it. I found the idea of Stacey having to work alongside someone who is no longer alive quite interesting, especially when there are still unanswered questions about his death. I also liked that the story has some humor instead of being serious all the way through. The relationship between Stacey and Jason brings another dimension to the plot, and their circumstances make things complicated in an interesting way. It’s definitely not your typical romance, and that’s part of what makes it stand out. I’m curious about what comes next for these characters.

I actually enjoyed this book more than I expected. I wasn’t sure what to expect going in, but once Jason came back as a ghost, I was definitely curious to see where the story was going.

I liked the mystery surrounding his death and the way Stacey slowly gets pulled into everything. The relationship between Stacey and Jason was probably my favorite part, especially because of how complicated their situation is. There were also some funny moments that kept things from feeling too heavy.

It’s a pretty unusual mix of medical drama, mystery, romance and supernatural elements, but somehow it works. I kept wanting to find out what really happened to Jason and how everything would end. Overall, it was an enjoyable read and I’m curious to see where the story goes next.

Okay, I don’t usually go for ghost romance, but this one worked for me. Doctor tries to save a guy, he dies, then he shows up as a ghost and she’s the only one who can see him. It’s part medical drama, part mystery, part slow-burn romance. Jason and Stacey had good chemistry, and the mystery kept me guessing.

THE REVIEW

This was a compelling and engaging paranormal romance-meets-suspense thriller. The author does a fantastic job of world-building in this book, delving into how the protagonist develops a connection to the paranormal and adding depth to the narrative by introducing a potential murder-mystery element, giving readers a story they can really sink their teeth into.

While the rich imagery in the author's writing style and the thrilling supernatural elements introduced into the plot are definitely standout moments in the book, it is the characters themselves that become the foundation on which this novel shines. Seeing how the protagonist is drawn into this mystery and the supernatural elements around her, while also introducing strong character dynamics as the stranger becomes increasingly integral and intertwined with the protagonist's life, allows the reader to truly connect and become invested in the journey they both go on.

THE VERDICT

Mysterious, haunting, and thoughtfully entertaining, author Nafsika Antypas's “Ghosted MD: The Awakening” is a must-read supernatural thriller that blends paranormal romance and mystery. The twists and turns of the story draw the reader in, and the gripping character development and dynamics keep the reader invested and eager to delve deeper into the world the author has crafted.
