AN EXPOSÉ is Danny Shines unapologetically dark rant about the cosmic joke we call existence, from sex as a biological hustle to pregnancy as body horror, childhood as mandatory trauma training, adulthood as financial servitude, and old age as nature repossessing your organs one by one. It is funny, furious, and brutally honest, the kind of book that finally says out loud what everyone secretly life is not a miracle, it is a trap with great PR.What if the greatest scandal in the universe is life itself?
This book is an exposé , a forensic, irreverent, unapologetically honest look at what it means to be born into a world of disease, aging, exploitation, prisons (biological and cultural), and guaranteed death.
Part I reveals nature’s trap.
Part II exposes society’s machinery.
Part III dismantles the illusion of “the gift of life.”
This is not philosophy.
This is whistleblowing.
If you’ve ever felt the unsettling suspicion that life is not what it claims to be —
Danny, languishing in a hospital bed, sick with terminal cancer and having been run down by a car is here to blow the whistle on life.
Notorious for street activism promoting veganism and antinatalism on his Social Experimentalist YouTube channel, he now moves several rungs upstream and deals with life and sentience as the source of all our ills.
The appendix concludes with a list of the many sicknesses and ailments we can be struck down by. Appendicitis included.
"What if the greatest scandal in the universe is life itself?"
As someone who has already decided not to have children, I sometimes find reading books like this to be needlessly bleak. I also find the rhetorical device of listing a bunch of bad things that can potentially happen during the course of a life to be a bit overwrought. But! That doesn’t mean the author is wrong.
Also, if you, like me, are interested in challenging your deeply held convictions, this is the most thoughtful response to antinatalism I have come across.
