A fun 70s horror romp spiced a little too much with gratuitous sex and sexism. Something strange is going on in the seas-- fish, crabs, lobsters, etc., start acting in coordination to sink fishing ships, attack people in the ocean, and more. Our lead (Aran) is a science writer who starts off hanging with his latest fling in an ocean front cottage in Delaware. One day 'his girl' gets bit by some sea bass and the same day Aran reads about a whale that attached a yacht and a lobster fisherman who was killed by lobsters in his boat. Aran decides to investigate and contacts his friend in Boston with connections to government agencies. What could be turning the seas against Man?

Decently written and plotted, a fun light read, and while I know it was written in a different era, the blatant sexism is still a little hard to take. All women are 'girls', who are also submissive to the extreme and Messmann spends way too much time describing their breasts. If you can get by this, there are some interesting ideas in the novel. 2.5 fishy stars rounding up.

Fantastic Seventies killer fish drama! All those important Seventies touches are in place -- everyone is having an affair with someone, and we have to read every detail of those sex scenes before we can get to the good parts about the angry fish.
