Though his childhood friends perceive him to be a typical 9-year-old, his actual identity is a closely held military secret known only to a select few. He is the result of a rogue scientist’s tragic experiments pursuing the zealous goal of changing the course of human evolution. While Thomas’ friends have all grown 3½ years older since the Fletchers moved to Colorado, Thomas has physically aged just 17 months, owing to his genetically-modified DNA. To maintain the secrets of his true nature, the Fletchers must move to a new location, abandoning their friends and home, to assume new identities.
“You worry too much, Thomas,” Grammie told him often.
Thomas’ history gave him good cause to worry about the future. He’d known murder, treason, and kidnapping, and he’d endured a series of grievous injuries and intimate betrayals. It wouldn’t be long before there was plenty more to worry about.
Soon after settling into their new home, the Fletchers learn that Thomas is no longer the unique outcome of Dr. Parnelis’ transformation technology. A second person has been transformed by one of Dr. Parnelis’ fanatical protégés. That illicit achievement will impose a deadly price.
It will also irrevocably redefine Thomas’ self-identity, and his relationship with the Fletchers as their adopted grandson will be forever changed.
