Extraordinary

Rate this book
In a world where everyone has a superpower… except him…
what’s a powerless kid supposed to do?

Seventeen-year-old Mordecai “Kai” Jones is the only person on the planet born without an extraordinary ability. No super strength, no laser eyes, not even the power to warm up leftovers with his mind. While everyone else at Live Oak Law Enforcement Academy trains to become heroes, Kai is just trying to survive the daily paintball ambushes, locker-door slams, and one very speed-obsessed bully.

Then he meets Maddie—the fast-talking new girl who can bring paper to life, laughs at all her own jokes, and somehow sees right through Kai’s defenses. She’s brilliant, bold, and wildly out of his league… and for reasons he cannot figure out, she sits with him anyway.

But when strange things start happening—reaction times he shouldn’t have, strength he’s never felt, instincts he can’t explain—Kai begins to wonder if the world was wrong about him. Maybe he’s not powerless. Maybe he’s been extraordinary all along.

As danger closes in and loyalties are tested, Kai must
keep hiding in the background…
or step into a destiny he never believed he deserved.

Heartfelt, funny, romantic, and full of cinematic action, Extraordinary is a coming-of-age superhero story for anyone who’s ever felt invisible, underestimated, or unsure of their place in the world.
Because sometimes the most powerful thing you can be—is yourself.

I loved this book so much that I finished it in one day! I really enjoyed Maddie & Kai and the playfulness of the characters. I would have loved sitting under the big oak and taking in all the action. It was fun to think of a world where the powerless one is the odd one. This story had great character development and moments that tugged at your heart strings. If you love YA fantasy with super powers and a smidge of romance (completely PG), then you will devour this book.
