Thank to the editor/one of the authors for the ARC.
This is an underappreciated niche of monster romance, with monstrous women x humans, as well as monster x monster. It’s an anthology with different authors and topics, the themes vary widely but include environmental issues, moving on after breakups, and several sex worker positive stories. Special shout out to A Tale of Slime and Sunshine for the sheer variety in the spice and one of the most unique content warnings I’ve ever seen.
Mini individual reviews included below:
In the shade of the elder tree - 3.5/5, really enjoyed the Cinderella vibe and the environmental message but it got lost amongst the shift into the romance in the back half of the story
The Empress in the Snow - 4.25/5, unusal monster plus a empress and a devoted right hand being? Delicious
Co-Star Wanted - 4.25/5, love the communication in this one and the setup of sex worker and extra is unusual but very well written. I liked the call backs to Fan Service included
Moonlight like Knives - 2.5/5, something just wasn’t working for me for this one. It felt stilted?
Night-time Protector - 4/5, very well-written, adored the notes they left for each other
The Earth, Our Body - 2.25/5, again I appreciate the message but this felt like I was being preached to after a time. Might’ve been a pacing issue
For Krampus Sake - 3.5, unique situation with a ton of worldbuilding added in. Sadly, will never accept kitten as a valid nickname, eventual werecat or not
A Tale of Slime and Sunshine - 4.25/5, that is such an excellent fill of the brief, spicy and sweet and the variety, wow.
Chisels and Cracks - 3.75/5, short but sweet and I always enjoy a mythology based romance

9 short stories of varying pairings (mostly FF with 1 FM) and spice for the monster lovers. Each story starts with pairing/type of monster(s), spice level and brief description along with content warnings.
Volume two contained many new to me authors and overall I enjoyed the stories. Some of the monsters I did look up images of before the story just for better visuals. Apparently my monster knowledge has a few gaps.
Another lovely anthology filled with sexy monster women.
This anthology continues after the first and shows once again that monster women are lovely. I definitely can't get enough of these women and this anthology keeps delivering stories with them in the best way possible. There is also a lovely mix of shorter stories and longer ones. There are some of 30ish pages and another that's around 80. I loved that it that there were those of different length, each has their own strength in my opinion. There was also a variety in the kind of fantasy that surrounded the lore of the monsters. There is Co-Star Wanted by Robin Jo Margeret and A Tale of Slime and Sunshine that were both very sexy and rooted in a more urban fantasy kind of world. But there were also others like The Earth, Our Body by Nicole L. Soper Gorden and Moonlight Like Knives by Nico Silver which holds a world with magic and witches. The variety in this was also very welcome while reading my way through the anthology.
I also really enjoyed the shorter The Empress in the Snow by Joachim Heijndermans that had a monster in a true non human shape, which always can be really hot. The way the monster is a true knight protecting her empress is always a lot of fun too, and makes me swoon in the best way. The way these two loved each other was full of passion and giggles and gave me a really good time while reading.
Coming back to A Tale of Slime and Sunshine that one was a personal joy for me because it incorporated some kinks in the story that I also enjoy. I do think that for that reason it might not be for everyone, but if it is up your alley it is damn good. The monster of this story being a slime monster sets itself up for all kind of fun shape changing and it was utilized in an awesome way.
I also really enjoyed Night-time Protector by Delilah Sparks as this felt like the one with the biggest yearning of them all. Damn these women that would've loved to smash but both are too scared to take it to the next level. It gave us a lot of sweet and adorable moments of both of them trying to flirt and made me greatly enjoy this story.
Concluding this is a lovely anthology that anyone who is a monster smut lover should read.
Thank you to the publisher for giving me an ARC (the second I have ever received, and the only one I have been quite so excited about).
I keep editing this review as it just seems worse and worse in hindsight. Still worth reading, imo
To be totally honest, the anthology was a bit hit or miss, just like the last one (looking at you 'All Spun Up', which I was so looking forwards to and then so disappointed by). That being said, the highs were so high I had to give it at least 4 stars. I absolutely adore everything this anthology series is doing, and am excited for the third instalment. If not for my personal attachment, I fear a more objective review would average it to more of a 2-2.5/5, but something irrational deep within me is begging me to allow this grotesque rounding error. 6/5 for concept? I do think the first one was a lot better, though.
Also, the quality of writing in this one is worse on average than that of the first. Just very clunky and awkward in some of the stories, no/t many noticeable typos or miscellaneous blatantly editing failures.
The one with the Qilin wasn't necessarily my favourite *story*, but she was a fascinating monster and I learned something new with my smut that day. Werebunny was also adorable
I loved some of the stories more than others, I found some new authors that I would like to read more from. My favorite story was the Krampus one it was so good.
