This is the catalogue of the 2026 Matisse exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris, and it’s worth getting just for the reproductions of the works, which are excellent; and there are a lot of them.
It also includes eight essays on various aspects of Matisse’s career, some of which will be more interesting to the general reader than others, which are more academic in nature; some of them get pretty scholarly and art-historical. (I found the last one to be an interesting curiosity; it discusses the influence of Matisse’s last works, particularly the gouache cut-outs, on subsequent graphic design and advertising.)
But whether you’re interested in the reproductions or the essays, I think you’ll find the book to be worthwhile.
