PYRO

Rate this book
She believed in love. He believed in control. Neither expected to believe in each other. Sunnie wasn’t looking for forever but love has a way of showing up in the most unexpected places—sometimes shirtless, tatted, and unapologetically dangerous. Jules Jones, better known as Pyro, had a reputation that spoke louder than his words ever did… until her.
What began with tension turned into territory. Now she wears his last name and his fire on her skin but in a world full of chaos, exes, secrets, and smoke, the real question is—Can two wild hearts build something that won’t burn? This is more than a love story. It’s a blaze and once it starts…There’s no going back.

Lost Steam

Spoiler alert 🚨
This was my first read by this author. The book started off good but lost steam in the middle toward the end. I think the plot could have been developed more.
Why was Pyro relationship with his mom fractured? They never really developed that. Why was his sister pit against him. What was the point of Dame bringing the ex to Thanksgiving and the mom bringing Pyro ex-wife? Some things felt random and didn’t make sense. When did Lisa and Lincoln hook up? Where was Sunnies mom?
I felt like there were a ton of plot holes and the book was filled with a bunch of random sex scenes.

this books pacing has made it difficult to finish. it feels as if majority of what is happening between the characters, we are being told instead of seeing and experiencing the connection ourselves as the readers! As far as I have gotten the characters have had 3 physical interactions (outside of them meeting) and 2 out of the 3 have been sexual yet we are told that they feel so strongly for each other to the point of the FMC (spoiler alert*) getting a tattoo of the mmc’s name, ma'am that is a stranger? Also another spoiler* the mmc burns the ex house down with him there unprovoked?? If I continued reading I would have found myself in a slump! A subplot within this story would have improved it IMO, as the book solely being character forward is not enough for me to finish.

Going into Pyro, I had high expectations because the hype around this book was everywhere. After finishing it though…it was just okay to me.

The story definitely had its moments but it didn’t hit as hard as I expected. I kept waiting for that moment where everything really pulled me in, and it never fully happened.

Not a bad read at all but just not the explosive experience the title (or the hype) made me think it would be.

However, Pyro is definitely a man I want no parts of. 😭 That man be doing stuff completely unprovoked.

Entertaining to read about…but not a man I’d want anywhere near my life.

My goodness what a read! Sunnie and Jules were a chaotic couple who had a palpable chemistry. There was lots of push/pull for control in the beginning. Sunnie made him feel it in his chest though and when presented with an ultimatum, Jules manned up. After he called her bluff in the kitchen (IYKYK), their forever was cemented for them. Jules didn’t play about his “pretty girl” and was willing to do whatever to ensure she was protected and would always be by his side. Despite him claiming he wasn’t a relationship kind of guy, I did love them together and watching his development. He really just wanted to make sure that he was whatever it was that Sunnie needed. And I appreciated her being such a strong FMC. Their banter was great too.

I do feel like there were some things I wish were fleshed out more. Like their early situationship days, it had me feeling like I was missing context when their relationship progressed. And I also wish we had a bit more background into Jules’ history. How did the dynamic with his mom and sister begin? How did he end up with Granny? How did fire become his thing?

The inconsistency in this book is the reason I gave 3⭐️ I liked the story but let’s be real a controlling man is NOT attractive at least not to me I don’t even play like that but anywho, the perfume for starters how is it when he went to purchase it, it was the one she originally wanted but didn’t get it because Larry didn’t like it but when she retrieved the gift off her porch it was one similar but he designed the scent THAT MAKES NO SENSE!! How did her dad even know about Pyro there was nothing ever said about them to the dad, how did the gm know about them, nothing else was mentioned about them messing around, what was the purpose of Pyro mama showing up on his door step asking for a grandchild she wasn’t even a good mama to him MAKES NO SENSE!!!!! they didn’t talk to one another for 3 months but he shows up at the Freaknik party, clear the party out and she goes home with home Fawk all night get a tattoo that says Pyro Property when did that happened and all of this without being in a relationship when she’s supposed to be the wife type THAT MAKES NO SENSE!!!!! And to set Larry house on fire and kill him made absolutely NO SENSE they weren’t even messing around anymore and it had been months. The overly mentions of her belly was very aggravating. BOOKTOK loves to hype books up.

Sunnie was a whole trip with all that talking, but she definitely met her match in this one! 🤐 It was so satisfying watching her go from talking a big game to being completely quiet the second she stepped into Pyro’s space.

Pyro is a whole mood quiet, dangerous, and the type of alpha who doesn't have to say much to take over. The chemistry between them is explosive; the transition from her mouthy attitude to 'legs in the air' had me hooked!

Jules likes to do what he wants but Sunnie was his match. She kept pushing him and she knew he was a crashout. But babyyyyy Pyro was a real eater. Mr Spit Bubbles.

🔥 literally 🤣🤣🤣

This was good. If you’re looking for lots of steam, psychotic behavior and a thorough and detailed book then this is for you. Lots of back and forth and basically lots of setting things on fire. Yep! Both the FMC and MMC were two arsonists 🤣🤣🤣 Pyro didn’t play about Sunnie after she set firm boundaries. He was traumatized from his dirty bird momma. His Granny was so petty and a straight up fool. No filter whatsoever. She came through for him tho.
Pyro was that 🥷 and Sunnie was cool. I do feel like Pyro had mental issues and probably needed some therapy and Sunnie came right in and skipped over that fact and gave him an ultimatum. I didn’t like that part about her. He spent most of the book basically pinning behind her.
Sunnie’s ex coming to Thanksgiving dinner was unnecessary and why would her brother even do that? Must have been for a filler. Also, I don’t feel like Lisa needed a ring. For what? Lincoln was cheating on his wife and got Lisa pregnant and all because Pyro threatened to burn the world down he manned up and left his wife to get another one because she was pregnant. Just take care of your baby. That’s it! Overall it was a good book to start the year off with.

It was ok

Let me start by saying that I did finish the book and I saw the potential. The spit bubbles were great. I saw who Pyro’s character was trying to be and I adored Granny. I wasn’t a fan of Sunnie’s sudden switch and that was the disconnect for me. She was so strong and admirable at the beginning but immediately she turned weak. I saw how the author tried to make Pyro obsessive but it did not land to me after their first spicy encounter after the club. I know this was insta love but I didn’t feel the love. I kept reading because I had to know if this love that was brewing between the so was going to be show and it fell flat for me most the time. There were also a few plot holes. One being that during their first encounter the only thing that happened was oral pleasure but as the book ended, it says she got pregnant during that encounter. I had to keep going back to read multiple times scenes because it felt like i missed detail but a lot just weren’t mentioned. Overall, it was an ok read. Kudos to the author for finishing and publishing a book.

BURN BABY BURN!!! 🔥 pun intended

If i could give more than 5 stars, i would! Jules was funny af! Every interaction he had with Misty had me crying laughing! Man, If Crash out was a person, baby, Jules Pyro Jones was it! 😂😂😂 The way he tried to fight them feelings for Sunnie was hilarious. I love how Sunnie knew she was THAT BITCH and demanded to be treated as such and didn’t accept anything else. Granny had me cackling with her holy but hood antics. Jules’ family had me ready to throw hands cuz why were they even like that. I wish i had more insight on Julie gettin her ass whooped by Lisa, though. That was funny. Omg and Dessy’s wig….🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🔥🔥 This was my favorite read of the year so far. This set the standard for everything else!

You'll set yourself on fire for the right one, and they won't let you burn alone. Sunnie and Jules burned insta fast like a spark to gas. The spice was definitely frequent and in the forefront. Jules really has to choose his happiness over his trauma. Sunnie was a woman who knew her worth and wasn't settling for less than she deserved. I was left with some questions that I hope to one day get answers to, because I'm nosey when it comes to these book characters. This is a very fast paced read. I liked the characters and would read another book that went a bit more into their individual pasts. This books main focus is definitely on Sunnie and Jules setting one another on fire and choosing to burn together. ❤️‍🔥

The book was good until it right until they got married. Then it got repetitive with a whole bunch of random ass scenes with no context behind them. Bc where was Sunny’s mom ? What happened to pyros daddy ? His relationship with his mom ? & this random ahhs “wife” with the crunchy wig come from, why did she feel it was necessary to come to thanksgiving. What was the sister and his relationship like ? How you go from 4 months to 7months pregnant ? Lisa did all that motivational speaking to sunny about her being somebody wife just for her ass to go goosin on a married man. THENNNN she got a ring ? FOH 🙄 & not pyro bullied that man to tell his wife? So what she left him and he married the random fling? I think either yall being paid for these reviews orrrrrr idk bc yeah STOP LYING !

I’m not sure how to feel about this book and the story. Definitely got attached to the characters (loved the friendships and girls nights) but I couldn’t fully buy into what tethered Pyro & Sunnie together beyond the physical. I thought it would’ve made for a great homie-lover-friend type story but it ended in marriage and the author didn’t put in enough work to show the love between them. Or maybe the chaos of everything was their way of being in love? There was definitely lust but the love wasn’t really shining through. Super spicy but very unromantic and that upset me, I want EVERYTHING!! And don’t get me started on how things ended for Lisa… A forced marriage? Eish!! The writing is superb though — you can tell the author is also a poet. Definitely reading more of her work!

The story had great potential, but there were too many "holes" in the storyline. There were so many times I went back to reread, because I thought I missed something pages before. It had VERY good potential.. just wasn't fleshed out enough for me. The time jumps were weird, it took me a minute to figure out what was going on and when. What was the deal with his mama, sister and Dessy? Did Lincoln leave his wife for Lisa? When did Lisa and Julie run into each other for Lisa to have given her a black eye? And for what reason? Was he previously burning down buildings or people? Is he a gangster? And the reiterating/ professing of their love for each other becomes a bit redundant. I gave it 3 stars.

Sunnie didn’t play with Jules. From their first interaction let him know he didn’t invoke the same fear or want most people who knew of him.

Sunnie required Jules to grow up forced him to realize she wasn’t going to settle for pieces of him. And once he realized that he burned everything that came before her. Trials and tribulations made them stronger as a unit. And the 3K just to unblock him? Yea my kinda MMC.

As far as plot and pacing it was a tad bit everywhere, understanding it’s a novella and it’s meant to be fast paced aside I had more questions than answers. I do feel like some points deserved more depth than what they got. But I was entertained nonetheless.

Fighting for Love

Julies and Sunnie had to fight to love each other. Pyro went through ao much to get where he needed to be. I love how Sunnie put her foot down. They kept playing cat and mouse until she showed him that she wanted more. Pyro knew he couldn't lose her.
It was a beautiful live story after they were able to love each other.
Sometimes, it takes a woman putting her foot down to get what both of them need. I love the development of the main characters.
The grandma was a beautiful soul. She saw what they both needed.

Love’s fire!

This was my first read by this author and definitely not my last! Pyro and Sunnie were a good time. This is truly insta-love at its finest. I would have loved if the reader got some explanation for his fractured relationship with his mother since it was so integral to his character development and growth. But Pyro was a force to be reckoned with, but Sunnie was no pushover and held her own. I loved that she made him work for her, and Pyro's changed behavior was lovely to witness.

I was super excited for this one and it really held my attention in the beginning but then there was a point where something happened and I paused because it completely took me out of the story

SPOILER AHEAD....

She got his named tattooed on her and FOR ME not only did it seem out of character for the fmc at the time but also I didn't feel like they were anywhere near that point in their relationship if that makes since? It was more TELLING me that they were in deep instead of showing and me FEELING it. And then things started getting super repetitive.

Insta love.
We’re told some of the most pivotal plot points instead of letting it play out.
The story is fast paced to the point where I’m questioning if this is part of a series. Because of this, Pyro’s OTT behavior and the spice doesn’t hit as hard as it would have , if there were a build up to their relationship.

Overall I did not finish the book. I fell asleep around the time she announces she’s pregnant then she’s actually further along than they thought. When I woke up, I didn’t feel the need to finish.

Soul Ties & Twin Flames

The opening sentence was insane but our arsonist Jules did what he did for control and eventually love. sunnie is the same firecracker that knows when to submit and realized the control she has with Jules that eventually turnt to love. I truly think that was such a different book. i was concerned of toxic love but it was actually soul ties and a respectable relationship. Jules worshipped the ground Sunnie walks on and i’m sure he wants to move into her body and vice versa i love it so rough but cute and romantic in a Harley Quin and Joker style

loved every minute

I lovedddd this book! The banter, the fire, the chaos, the emotion, the love, the friendships I loved it all. Sunnie was everything, she was exactly who she thought she was and Jules was not ready and I loved that for her. She broke that hard exterior all the way down and pieced him back together healed and in love. This was written beautifully and in full, not unnecessarily drawn out but just right. This book ended with you feeling full and warm inside the perfect little chaotic HEA.

ehh

This started really good. I love me a chaotic thug but it felt like there was soo many plot holes. Like the book was written too fast and we were missing whole scenes and pieces. It felt like the story was happening in the background. Also the characters got together so fast the plot started to lack and it just became repetitive and I felt like there was nothing left to invest in. Somehow the story moved fast with a lot of random scenes but also nothing happened at all 🤷🏾‍♀️

sporadic

I really wanted to like this book, I actually did enjoy the story line but the random jumping around threw me off. There was no true build up to the intensity of their relationship. It felt like "scenes" were missing.

*spoiler*
For example, Lisa knew all about her night with Pyro; him spanking her. But we never heard Sunnie say that in that phone call.

Them only having spent time together once and to not talk for 3 months..then they were on the brink of being in love.

I did finish but definitely would have enjoyed more background info

Now y’all why was Sunnie playing with my boy in the beginning of the book like that? Sneaking out & all😂. I will say she stood on business with some stuff & I respected that from her character.

Now Pyro??? Mr unhinged himself?? Yeah NEED THAT, idc 😂. That man is the definition of obsessed & crazy & I love it omg. Who you know burning down Apartment’s because he has your girlfriend first?

I did feel like the book was rushed a little because some parts I got mixed up with & then I realized I was coming to the end but overall it was a good read.

Add Pyro to the Unhinged Book Bae List 🔥🔥

This was my first read from this author and I loved it from the very first sentence! I absolutely love Pyro! I loved how he was unhinged, but also vulnerable. The chemistry between Pyro and Sunnie was 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️.

Sunnie was adamant about maintaining her business, despite having someone to take care of her. I loved that about her. Just like Pyro would burn the world down for her, she’d do the same for him. I’m going straight to the next book in the series!

Oh Pyro my Pyro. I love me a good unhinged man. Did he have flaws? Yes? Was he controlling? Again yes? Would I let me use those spit bubbles? Also yes?

It was some parts that were missed but all and all it was still a great story and one that I wouldn’t mind reading again if there were ever to be a continuation. You knew he fell first with the way he was acting but you also knew she wasn’t far behind him. My only thing was that I didn’t like how her weight was always brought up even with her saying how much she was in love with it. To me it almost still felt like an insecurity but it who am I. I still loved them. And baby that car scene, yeah I need to run that.

Pyro did not come to play in any sense of the matter. He stays ready to burn anything and anyone behind Sunnie.

When he thought he was bound to live a life full of chaos, control, ruthlessness - here comes a woman who doesn’t even want to indulge in the smoke, but has a mouth full of quick antics to make him question everything moving forward.

Probably my favorite thus far from my Sunshine reads.

It was good, but…

Really enjoyed reading this but after Sunnie and Pyro got together and married, I felt like there was nothing else to keep reading about. The chase was what got me and how he didn’t want to lose her, fighting himself on not wanting to be in a relationship because he doesn’t do relationships. He couldn’t help himself, he was in love with her and knew she was the one for him.
