The Emptying

The city is starving but the farms are bursting with food. Something is very wrong.

In the aftermath of a riot turned lethal, city-kid Acker goes looking for law and order. After a farm truck is attacked in the city, farmgirl Dot sets off to find answers. When the two teens meet, they find common ground and a terrifying truth about the future. Someone has to confront reality…what’s left of it.... And it looks like it's them.

In this dramatic, thought provoking, and prescient story Mimi and Rachel imagine a world where AI, initially created to eradicate all human error, has gone disastrously wrong endangering the survival of the human race.

Dystopian YA set in a future where AI ribots have taken over. Really timely and relevant at the moment. Gave me loads to think about

In a world where AI is charged with eradicating all human error, something is very wrong. The city is starving but the farms are bursting with food and the government appears to be experiencing technical issues. A group of young people discover a terrifying truth about the future, endangering the survival of the whole human race.

This is a fast paced and exciting glimpse into a possible future, where the battle between humans and AI is frighteningly real. Dot and Acker are teenagers brought together by the need to find answers and who become humanities last hope against extinction. Written with a well realised dystopian setting and a good mystery/quest plot (with a sense of humour added in!) this book is both an exciting and thought provoking read. It particularly appealed to me because many of the locations mentioned feature predominantly in my life experience (including my Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award Expedition along the Ridgeway!) My only complaint is that I wanted more!

After a disaster caused by human error, the End Human Error party is elected and DISTRO, a worldwide distribution centre, is created. Everyone is now given clothes to wear and food to eat but something is wrong. City kid. Acker, and farmgirl, Dot, both head off looking for answers. A dystopian story where AI, first used to solve problems, decides that humans are the issue.
