Matched to the Alien Rancher at Christmas

Rate this book
All she wanted for Christmas was a second chance. What she got was a grumpy alien rancher who voted against allowing humans into his colony.

Juniper thought signing up for the Mate Program would give her a fresh start. Instead, she's been assigned to Goraath—a massive, scarred rancher on the most isolated homestead on the planet. He made it clear he doesn't want her here. Doesn't want anyone here.

But it's Christmas, and Juni's not about to let a grumpy alien steal her joy.

Goraath spent years building walls—around his ranch, around his heart. The last thing he needs is a tiny human female hanging decorations, humming carols, and making his empty house feel like a home.

Worse, she makes him want things he buried long ago.

When a stampede nearly kills her, his carefully controlled life shatters. One desperate kiss changes everything. And Juni realizes the most dangerous thing on this frozen frontier isn't the wildlife.

It's falling for a warrior who's forgotten how to hope.

He's given up on miracles. She's about to show him one.

Festive fusion

Such a fantastic Christmas story! I love that we got to see a new branch of the mate program be successful. The author took us to a new location and showed that there is more to the Lathar than just being warriors. But under it all is the secrets that they keep hidden and the thread of danger that might just derail the program before it starts. Not to fear, like all Lathar when push comes to shove they release the beast and save the day. This story is a wonderful example of when grumpy meets sunshine, and the wrong colored snow, they uncover a love that is meant to last. This book is a wonderful read no matter the season and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the rest of the males in the colony.

’No quiero volver a la Tierra. No quiero seguridad. Quiero este rancho, esta colonia y esos ridículos krulaati. Quiero festivales de solsticio de invierno, nieve morada y discutir sobre el color de los muñecos de nieve. Te deseo. Mientras estemos juntos. Ya sean cincuenta o quinientos años.’

Matched to the Alien Rancher at Christmas de Mina Carter serie Latharian Mate Program: Unmatched Mates libro 1

Argumento:

No quiere a nadie aquí.

I was quite pleasantly surprised by this first book in a new Lathar spin-off series—and in more ways than one.

I read the blurb and thought, “Uh, a Cowboy Colony Mail-Order Brides rip-off?” But no, it’s not. This book is clearly inspired by Ursa Dax’s series, but it’s definitely its own book—firmly set in the Latharian universe, with just enough similarities to make it equally enticing, but not enough to make me compare it to Ursa’s series all the time.

I wasn’t quite in the mood for cheesy Christmas on an alien planet, but I’ve DNFed every December read I’ve picked up (mostly mafia romance—my current obsession and greatest burden, really), and I needed just one read for the December/Grand Slam achievements. But also no, this book isn’t cheesy. Mina Carter put a lot of thought into weaving the Christmas theme and the cultural differences into the story. It doesn’t feel painted on at all.

Mina Carter is arguably the SFR queen of insta-love, so that’s what I expected. I did not expect a slow burn in fewer than 180 pages, and the book is all the better for it. Seriously. Her last three releases (across series) were… lacking, because insta-love carried more weight than it should have. I never quite knew why the main characters had feelings for each other. Not so in this book. This book gave me all the feels. All of them. In 176 pages. (Yes, it bears repeating because… WTF? How?)

Still, some things made me blink at the page, scratch my head, and mutter, “…wait. What?” For example, the main characters having basically the same conversation twice in short order.

Chapter 2 – driving away from town

Chapter 3 – driving into town

This isn’t the first time this has happened in one of her books either, but it’s a recent development. I don’t know if she changed editors or what, but it’s jarring AF.

All in all, I’m giving this a solid 4 stars anyway, because I really, really liked seeing the romance unfold—and I stayed up well past midnight to finish reading.

Juni and her friends are on their way to a new world. Being “sponsored” by the big aliens can’t be bad and it is around Christmas time too. Goraath didn’t want a human on his rancher. He liked his peace and quiet away from everyone. But he is part of the men that names have been drawn from the lottery. His uncle Gaauth sees this as a chance for Goraath to find happiness and perhaps love. Things don’t start off well. He doesn’t greet her like the others and keeps his distance. For Juni, she is a people person but finding out she is far from everyone, that is a challenge.

I love that we have a new world with new big aliens. Each woman seemed to have landed a male that is social and happy. Aida is matched to the Chief Engineer Daax. Autumn is with the medic Thayn. But the other women we don’t know who they have. There are six on the transport: Val, Finley, Anja, Autumn, Juniper and I forget the last one. Juni always tries to find the good in everything. She certain breaks through Goraath’s armor. He tries to ignore her but she just worms her way into his heart. Goraath comes off mean but he is kind and caring. You learn that when he is caring for his animals. They both learn about each other’s traditions, Christmas and Midwinter Celebration. The “holiday” is what opens his heart. Of course, there are purist even on this world that don’t want the humans. We learn then who Goraath really is and why he was so closed off. Hopefully, Kaalden, the colony leader finds a mate too.

A crotchety, lonely, former special ops soldier, alien rancher meets his match in a small, curvy, sunshine personified, Christmas loving human!

With other potential mates, Juni lands at the outpost expecting at least a warm welcome from her match. What she gets is a grumpy, ill mannered Goraath. He doesn't want her there, doesn't want to compromise, he wants her gone as soon as he can! But humans have a way of wrapping Lathar around their little fingers, it just takes Juni a few days and almost getting mowed down by alien cattle! But it would seem there are some in the outpost who REALLY don't want Juni and her fellow humans there at all!

Goraath has emotions - he's just hidden them behind walls, topped with barbed wire, surrounded by a moat! Juni is just the soft, but tenacious, mate he needs. Its slow burn and then blazing intensity - once Goraath lets go, there is no going back. The community is so accepting of the potential mates and really make them feel part of the town.

Shorter length, but still jam packed with story, romance and passion. When you get me with a "my wife" in contemporary romance you can get me with a "kelarris" in the Lathar World!

Another Excellent Story!

I just love Mina Carter’s books and this was another hit. Downloaded this book on Christmas Day (after anxiously waiting for it) and read it through. No disappointments from me! A great mix of sci-fi and western themes the story of Goraath and Juniper was kept from being anywhere near trite by the unexpected twist of Goraath’s previous occupation before he returned to ranching. It is not often that the genres of sci-fi and western themes gets combined and too often when they are not meshed well (the disastrous movie “Cowboys and Aliens” with Harrison Ford and Daniel Craig unfortunately comes to mind, ugh!). Mina succeeded very well with this book. She also (slight spoiler ahead) finally addressed those warriors who were the hunters of one of the most horrific predators in space. They were mentioned several times through out her Latham series but they finally received a book featuring a main character of their own. Hopefully, this will be the start of a new series. I guess we’ll have to wait and see!

Love Overcomes All Obstacles

Juni was with five other women who had signed up for the Latharian Mate Program. They were being dropped off at a distant planet and they were all nervous. Five were assigned to Latharian men around the colony center. Juni was assigned to a remote, isolated rancher who had voted against the Mate Program. Not the most auspicious circumstances Juni had hoped for.

But Juni was an optimist. Then she met Goraath. He was huge. And he didn’t speak much. And his house was freezing. She had a big job ahead of her.

Don’t miss how Juni deals with Goraath, and how Goraath deals with the Purists. It’s a perfect Christmas story showing how love overcomes all obstacles. When it ends, you will have a smile on your face.

I love it when a series I love so much gives us something new yet includes some of the best parts of the old. So, the mate program has an opportunity to place some single women on a Lathar settlement. We are introduced to the women while they are on the ship, who knew there would be any Lathar that wouldn’t want mates, but the settlers have to vote to accept the women then have a lottery to see who is matched with whom. Love the plot line! Of course nothing goes as planned and Juni gets stuck with “mister grumpy leave me alone”. They both have secrets they are hiding and some baddies sneak in also. This is a Christmas tale, but also a true sci-fi and heartwarming romance. Can’t wait for the rest of the women to get their own books!

Grumpy vs Stubborn as this new work expands the Lather world...
...and what a charming book this is.  Once I started, I couldn't stop reading.  Gorrath was satisifed with his lonely life as a rancher; that is until he was saddled with a human.  While Juniper aka/Juni only wanted a life of peace and quiet.  Alas, that wasn't meant to be for either one.  This is a Christmas story of hope, heart, optimism, angst, unplanned for violent threats from the ever-present Purists, and a heartfelt ending perfect for any holiday.  Ms. Carter has written a charming tale of two people overcoming their doubts and winning each other's hearts.  I look forward to whatever comes next in this new series.  I got an ARC from this author and this is my voluntary review.

I very much enjoyed this story.
Juni and her friends are matched via the Latharian Mate Program and assigned new lives.
Life went downhill for Juni and she needed a new start.
Juni gets matched to a "farmer" that was against the program and wasn't very welcoming upon her arrival.
Goraath seems to be an interesting character.
He's got some hidden layers under his gruff exterior.
We later find out he's got some hidden "talents," which makes me curious about his backstory.
He's got some others going on also.
He sure doth protest too much.
I mean who doesn't like Christmas?
Christmas decorations??
Come on!
I would love to see more about the others girls and their matches.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book and am learning an honest review.

If there was one thing you could say about Juniper, it was that she didn't let adversity get her down. Her personality perfectly embodied the saying, "When life gives you lemons, make lemonade." Goraath had well-kept secrets keeping him apart, but he hadn't counted on Juni and her unwavering optimism. I love these stories about aliens who fall for the charms of the strong, determined and empowered Earth women. I think that the Scrooge vibe didn’t suit Goraath and It was almost funny how he was trying to cover his feelings. The story is short, but packed with powerful feelings and emotions, interesting characters, a dangerous threat, romance, and passion.

Juni has left her past for an uncertain future. Goraath has gotten used to being alone. When an unexpected match puts these two together will they survive to find a happily ever after?
Matched to the Alien Rancher at Christmas is the first in Mina Carter's Latharian Mate Program Unmatched Mates series. I enjoyed getting to know both Juni and Goraath. Juni has chosen to see joy and Goraath is struggling to see past his pain. You would never expect these diametrically opposed individuals to find a common ground but Ms. Carter found a way to work a Christmas miracle. Now if they can both survive to reach a future together.

Oooh a colony of settlers. Possible mates. Grumpy Rancher

So Goraath owns his deceased parents ranch. He was chosen for a mate trial. He is not happy about it. Juni is everything happy. She is worried she will not find a mate in the grumpy rancher but she loves his bare chest and back. He rarely talks. He does not like her Christmas decorations. After a disastrous and deadly stampeed they finally soften up. A vicious fight with purists. And a secret past revealed. Loved it!!!!!

My Favorite Sci-fi Romance Author

My Christmas present to me...a Mina Carter book and the first of the new series to boot. We're still in the Lathar world, but in a new setting. Mina's world building on this new planet is imaginative and the start of new wonders to behold as six Earth women meet their new mates. First up: Gaarth and Juni - Down on the Farm (sort of). He's a farmer (a good one), she's a city girl. What could go wrong? Well... Think a dangerous Green Acres without comedic humor. Read and enjoy!

The first book in the new Latharian Mate Program: Unmatched Mates series and it did not disappoint. Juniper’s fresh start begins with signing up with the mate program, but when she meets Goraath things get complicated. This was a delightful start to the series with a grumpy alien and a sunny earth woman that knocks him on his feet. Will they be able to figure things out before the ship return? One click to find out in this new series that will leave you wanting more. I can’t wait to see who falls next in this series.

What a perfect Christmas story for the holiday season. We have a grumpy farmer who is stuck in his ways. Fortunately for him his life is turned upside down but in a good way. ✨

As always Mina has given us a story that delivers the kind of romance that breaks all the rules. Juni and Goraath are an amazing couple. Their interactions are controlled and subtle. This awesome love story is filled with action and stolen moments. Page after page you are drawn into this slow burn romance 💜🔥

This novella is a perfect read for the holiday season.

This was a wonderful romance for the holidays with a Grinch-like grumpy farmer and a lovely human gal. Both Goraath and Juni are lonely but he's determined he doesn't need any one. Ha! Of course, within a few days, he's seeing there's something to be said for having a mate ;P Things aren't that simple, though, and I was so there for the reading ride. I really enjoyed how this one unfolded and can't wait for the next book :D

I love the story and the series. A sweet, spicy Christmas story. Juniper needed a fresh start and signed up for the mate program. She ends up with a grumpy grinch rancher Goraath. He lives out in the middle of no where and did not want the humans to come to the colony. He didn't want to matched either. Now he has a human woman coming due to his name being drawn. What will happen now? I read an arc of this book and this is my review

Juni is out of options so applies to the mating program.   Goraath voted against the program but gets a match.  He lives out of town and likes it that way.  She is looking forward to living close to the other woman.  Their attraction is too hard to fight and when Juni is in danger we get to see Goraath's true self.  Loved it and look forward to the next book.  I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.

When cultures and hearts collide, resistance is futile no matter how much Goraath fights against feeling anything for Juniper (Juni) the Earth woman matched to him.
They both have suffered loss and pain but come together when near tragedy strikes that find both in the path of an impossible situation.
Heat, heart and healing wrapped in a wonderful alien colony story.
Great beginning to another Latharian series!

Good series, but...

Good series, but the last few books are starting to seem...rushed? Like the author doesn't really put much into them anymore? This one had typos and repeated questions. She kept asking the rancher the same questions at different times like she hadn't already said the same thing. I keep hoping the books will go back to being like they were in the beginning but I doubt they will at this point.

I loveeee Irsa Dax's cowboy series and this is the same vibe but distinctly different. I really enjoyed this! rthe story follows rough and scarred Goraath the alien rancher and cheerful and determined Juni, the earth bride. we see them overcome hurdles, bond and forge a deep love and I really enjoyed it!

can't wait to the healer / doctor get his own book!!

I'm a sucker for huge, dangerous males who are softies to their mates

Would have gicen it 5 stars if there weren't so many Typos and repeated scenes. The matching of the unmatched seems to be leaning towards Latharians not just matching due to chemicals or physiology but maybe through want and desire. Just like humans, who would have thunk.
Cute Christmas story.

glad to read about

Latharian settlers. Enjoyed the sunshine vs grump character pairing.
Am confused about lack of communication devises and off grid power stations on ranch. Or automatic feed, watering. The space travel and tech shown from previous books suggests it would be used. Also she would have talked with other ship mate settlers daily

Book 1 another awesome series. I loved he story. AND purple snow!! I would love to see that. It would be so awesome. A man who did not want to have a mate bond. It's what killed his Dad. A woman who had nothing. She took a chance to find some one who maybe love her and need her. I enjoyed this story very much. I look forward to the next in the series.

If you want a sweet holiday read, look no further than Mina Carter’s latest. It reminded me of an alien grinch and the lovely girl who changed his mind. Isolated on a ranch on an alien planet is a lot to overcome but a grinch alien …but she makes it work! Enjoy readers and happy holidays❤️

Opposites attract. Goraath and Juni couldn't be more different. He is grumpy and she is perpetually happy. On the surface they don't seem like they would be a good match but as you go, you realize they are right for each other.

I really enjoyed their story.
