Dr. Whitney Jones knew how to write books, having written several on social history, but his most warm-hearted volume went unpublished. Shortly before his funeral, the manuscript of his personal memoir thankfully came to light.
Here, Whitney’s boyhood memories of the valleys in the 19030s are furnished with a foreword from his nephew and finally see publication. Included are several historical photos, including unique additions from his family.
Dr Jones’ recollections begin in the town of Caerphilly, especially his parents’ shop in the long-lost Castle Street; but the latter parts include his memories of the mining and farming industries found further up the valleys. His memoir is a delightful sight of life through the eyes of a bright boy with a bright future.
