What's What First 50%
Garrett; his brother, Justin; and some bad guys kidnap three friends from a club. Garrett and Justin are tasked with "breaking" the girls and turning them into sex slaves to be auctioned within the month. Garret chooses Kristine as the one he will break, and the story is told in alternating POVs between the two.
Early on, we learn Garrett and Justin are only there because they are searching for an in to get to their sister, who was kidnapped and is going to be sold at the same auction they are preparing Kristine and her friend for.
How far will Garrett and Justin go to get their sister back? Will they become the monsters they are fighting - rapist, torturers, murderers, etc?
Sound okay, huh? Uhm, not so much ~
Laughable Plot Holes In First 50%
• The sister was kidnapped TWO YEARS ago and is just being sold? Whomever her kidnapper was kept her a VIRGIN for TWO YEARS? Come the fuck on!
• The sex slave traders just let these two lackeys bid on not one, but three girls? Come the fuck on!
• Our male MC is distraught over the idea of rape but is hunkydorie okay with killing her if she threatens his plan? Come the fuck on!
• Bad guy grows a conscious and just lets the girl he's supposed to break go free? Guess three love stories here might be a bit much, huh?
• The FMC just automatically believes the MMC's story.
Last Half
I will hand it to the author that the direction she carries the second half of the story was unexpected. It's not often I'm surprised and that surprised me. Kudos!
Now, if it only made fucking sense! Again with the plot holes that could swallow up North America whole.
***spoilers*** DONT READ IF YOU DONT WANT SPOILERS
• The female MC just happens to move to the exact right place across country for this story to continue in the free world. She moves to a small Florida town his mom just happens to live.
• This kinda stockholmy love from a mere 10 days and which still exists over a year after escape?
• Over a year after she's free from 10 days of him semi-pretending to break her, and she has immediate thoughts like this...
He's so damn bossy. I don't remember him being like this, but then again maybe I was too scared those ten days to notice.
I still want to belong to him. Then at least I'll be somebody.
• Your kidnapper (who patato / potato is your former kidnapper, rapist, and torturer )freed you by paying 50k for you. He shows back up a year later wanting you not to tell his mommy what he had to do to get his sister back. He also wants you to be a-okay with him. When you're not, he says be mine for 3 months or pay me the money back. What to do .. what to do? Oh, of course, the answer is to go off with him.
And, on that note, I'm done. I can't finish the last 40% of this dumnutassary!
Bottom Line
I gave this author two tries. Her plots don't line up. Her characters either don't develop or develop into something akin to a neon yellow unicorn with a little green alien at the helm.

4 stars??? Ehhh...more like 3.75... Sorry not sorry
So, I absolutely LOVE dark books.... kidnapping, Stockholm's, dark, dirty, punishing painful sex.....BRING.IT.ON.
While this book had a ton of promise it fell short for me. I imagine it is probably hard to write this type book and make it unique and fresh.. The premise was great, I absolutely loved the fact that it was a bit different. What pissed me the f' off is that I feel like all of the pivotal, kick ass parts were just grazed over. The parts that should have been detailed, painful, full of emotional feels just happened and then.....over.
It felt rushed for the most part, It definitely could have been longer to push more emphasis on what I felt were the key moments.
I do like the way Michelle Horst brain works and I will read more of her work for sure.

WOW 5 Dark Stars
Recommended to anyone who likes dark, raw, rough and gritty read.
I am so glad I read this book, it was one of the best Dark Books i have read so far. It is the first book i read by Michelle Horst and i am her Fan !!
The story was amazing, the pace was well-built. Neither too slow nor too jumbling, just perfect to keep me hooked right from the first page!
I had already heard some great things about this book so i planned to read this and thanks to Michelle Horst she gifted me a copy to read an enjoy !
Three girls, off to have a vacation after their graduation and are abducted by a group of men from a night club. They are tortured, broke in and are up for Auction. One of those men Garrett is not like those other men. He is there just to get his sister back who was also abducted at the age of seventeen. He doesn't care how far he'll need to go to get his sister back. He can do anything to find his sister.
But then he feels a connection with that innocent, helpless yet fighter girl Kristine. She becomes 'Kris' for him with the passage of time. But that's not what fate decided..
Yeah it is a twisted story, not your typical love story. You need to read it and trust me you be sucked in the world of Garrett and Kristine.
All the other characters were also very well defined and close to life. I could feel all that going on around me. I loved this book.
I loved the character of Garrett and Kristine and the bond they had.
No doubt, this amazing, talented author Michelle Horst had taken DARK to a whole new peak! Raising the standards, nailing it !
Recommended to anyone who likes dark, raw, rough and gritty read.

Man, this book was not what I'd expected at all. Dark, scandalous, erotic, and full of twists, turns, and surprises that will definitely keep you glued to your kindles and constantly guessing.
A well written read, although, not for the faint of the heart since it can get pretty gritty and hard to take in at times.
Nonetheless, a highly recommended read!

This books is kind of twisted in some ways. I not sure if i would call it a love story and it definitely is a weird and usual love that develops between the two main characters Kristine and Garrett. Kristine and her two friends are kidnapped in a night club and they are being "Broken in" before going up for auction. Garrett and his brother Justin have joined these thugs and monster to find their sister, Andrea. She is seventeen and was captured too. Kristine is a fighter and is a really strong character to begin with but being auctioned off is destroying the fight in her. Garrett wants to protect her but he has to do things to her that he doesn't want to do but in order to find his sister, he has to be one of them.
Even though it is an usual story and one i didn't think i would like, i really enjoyed it. I really loved the characters and even though Garrett had to do some unspeakable things to Kristine, i couldn't help but sympathize with him. I was a bit like their friend Kelly, i couldn't understand how Kristine or Riza could love them after what they did but the more i read, the more i understood how they thought. Really loved it and can't wait to read more work from Michelle Horst.
Even though it is an usual story and one i didn't think i would like, i really enjoyed it. Kidnapper that cares
If a kidnapper could be sweet, this guy managed it. Yes, it had some dark moments but, for the most part, the H was a good guy just trying to do the right thing. There were some parts that didn't make sense to me--things that happened too easily and too quickly--but it was a quick read with some hot scenes and a couple of HEAs so... four stars and I have high hopes for Cruel Boundaries. :)

That's how Kong it took me to read every single book and spin off related to this series by Michelle Horst. Now its Friday afternoon and I have only taken cat naps and small snack breaks my assistant forced on me as I kept waving her away and mumbling some crap like "It's for work I just need to finish this one part and I will be right there!" I'm not usually a liar. I guess technically this could be classified as "for work" if I need to justify it to myself, or my assistant Amanda who is tapping her foot with her hand held out as I type this, I could honestly say it was for research. I know it wasn't. I know I need a shower. I know if I don't hand Amanda my tablet she might quit and let's face it this company would go belly up if she wasn't here to remind me to run it. All these things I know, yet when I finish this I fully intend on hitting the BUY NOW button on the INK series. Then I will hand it over....maybe. Am I an addict? Baby I'm a full blown Michelle Horst junky. Warning, reading this book very well may do the same to you.

Wow! Dark Boundaries is an excellent start to this series! Garrett and Justin's life will change in ways they've never thought possible!
Garrett and Justin go rogue in order to rescue their baby sister. The things they were forced to do to maintain their cover devastate both Justin and Garrett. However, the two continue the charade as they cannot return home without their little sister.
During a particular nasty assignment the brothers meet their soul mates. The guys have their work cut out for them trying to protect their women without blowing their cover needed to find their sister, Andrea.
This story has an incredible amount of drama(awesome sauce)! Some of the drama is very dark and readers should consider any triggers before proceeding. This is a fantastic dark read and there is a HEA.

Dark Boundaries lives up to it's name, it's truly a dark, twisted tale.
It's vicious, cruel and I found myself questioning some of the heroine's choices. I loved her for her choices but also wondered how the hell she could do it.
I also understood Garrett's reasoning in the choices he made but as much as I understood I still found myself wanting to hate him for something, just because of what he was involved in I felt the need to find something, anything to hate him for.
No spoilers. Dark Boundaries is just that, dark. It also has a developing romance and shows different ways three young women deal with the same tragedy.
This was my first book by the author but I look forward to more.

Wow what ride!!! This book was absolutely amazing. It was dark, twisted, Sexy and got dark some more.
Definitely not for the faint hearted but I loved every single twisted bit of it!!!

Talk about a twisted mess of chaos and forbidden love. This was a total change of pace from what I’ve come to know about Michelle Horst, and she brought out the darkness in a big way! Definitely not a story for the faint of heart, but if you want to take a ride on the dark train, step on up!
Kristine and her two friends, Kelly and Riza thought a night out at a kink club would be fun and adventurous, little did they know, they’d end up victims of a kidnapping and sex ring. So the journey begins, one of survival, trust, and forbidden love.
Garrett and his brother Justin have been “hanging” with these monsters for some time now, trying to find their sister who has disappeared, and learn to play the part of the tormentors. Garrett is in charge of “breaking” Kristine for the auction, which turns out completely different than any of them would of thought. Even under the horrific circumstances, they have an instant connection, and even though it breaks him apart to do the things he does to her, all Garrett sees at the moment is a way to get his sister back.

WOW!!! I'm just gobsmacked!! I was so in the mood for something dark & twisted story.... This book got it all & so much more!!
This is my second book I've read of Michelle's... First was 'Footprints in the Sands'... Amazing book by the way! LOL
But this has to be one of my favourite of Michelle's so far...
The prologue just got me by the hair! Holy shit!! I wanted something dark & twisted.. Well my wish was granted in spades!!!!
Have to say this... this book isn't for the faint hearted as it's Raw, Dark & Twisted... not a love story.. so if you don't like it then don't read on!

This is the first book that I have read by this author and I was pleasantly surprised.
This is a dark read so be warned as some events in the book can cause triggers.
We follow the story of Kristine and her friends as they take a year out after college to go on a road trip. One night in Vegas they decide to go to a strip club and events happen that they really didn't expect or envisage. They are all kidnapped and then taken to be trained as sex slaves. Two of their captors are brothers but they are hiding a secret and all isn't as it seems with them both.
One of the brothers Garrett forms a connection with Kristine, he fights it at first as his mission is one where it cannot involve her.
This is a story of a love that is built in harrowing circumstances, but then survived as it is so powerful that you cannot let it go.
It is a very long read with scenes that are very dark and very explicit. It is in no way your typical love story.
A read where the storyline flows perfectly and is easily followed. You can connect to the characters and feel their emotions. This author has a great flair for writing and I will be looking forward to reading more of her books.

Warning this book is not for the faint of heart . Make sure you read the author's warning because this sure is Dark and i mean DARK. If you are not a fan of dark reads steer clear this will not be the read for you. I've read some dark reads before but, damn this book is just gritty. I loved it but its raw, grimy, and dirty. At some point through the story you find it to be some part erotic but in your head your thinking why am I finding this just so dirty that its sexy. It's not all dark their are some love that is slow building. So many twists and turns major bombs are dropped. I enjoyed this a lot and how I watched both main characters grow with each other and how their relationship develops. Props to the author for this twisted story you get my crazy lol.

Wow. This book was definitely not like any of Michelle's that I've read before, and I say that in the best way possible! Michelle really has a fantastic way with getting any story told and this was no different. This book was intense, emotion, gripping, but definitely not for the faint of heart. I loved the darker story line than I'm used to reading from Michelle. If anyone is looking for a story that's all-consuming and will keep you on edge, check this out!!! And to think that there's going to be a second book soon! Well done Michelle, you most definitely earned your five stars with this one!

The synopsis of this book drew me to it immediately. I'm a sucker for Dark romance so I had to read it.
This review is quite hard to write as there are so many twists happening, that I can not say much.
What I can say though is that I really enjoyed reading Dark Boundaries.
If you love an unusual/ twisted love story, where the heroe is not who you think he is, where the heroine goes through horrific events and is damaged, this book is for you.
Dark Boundaries is for me a love story with a dark side, but I wouldn't label it as a dark romance.
That said I really look forward to reading Cruel Boundaries, Book 2 of this series!

Kris, Kelly and Riza are best friends and they've decided on a year break after collage to take a trip together. As they end up in one club things go wrong and they're taken to be made into slaves but things aren't as they seem, two brothers have hidden agendas, they don't plan on hurting the girls the way the others do.
This storyline is very dark and heartbreaking. It kept me interested from the beginning, I couldn't wait to see how everything turned out. The characters were all amazing and played perfect roles in the book. I definitely enjoyed this book and would recommend to anyone who loves dark reads.

If you don't like dark reads then this book isn't for you. There are some heavy situations that some people might find difficult to read!!
There is alot of twists in this book that will keep your gripped, praying that Kris will find safety and love that she so much deserves. Garrett do I love or hate him? The evil kidnapper but you also see a caring, loving, protective side of him.
I really enjoyed this book and seeing both points of view. You can see both sides of the story. Why Garrett's doing what needs to be done and the strength in Kris, will she let him break her?
There is alot of twists in this book that will keep your gripped, praying that Kris will find safety and love that she so much deserves. Garrett do I love or hate him? The evil kidnapper but you also see a caring, loving, protective side of him.
I really enjoyed this book and seeing both points of view. You can see both sides of the story. Why Garrett's doing what needs to be done and the strength in Kris, will she let him break her?

I love Michelle's books. Her writing style is amazing. She draws you in and shows you exactly what the character is thinking, so that you can feel their emotions. This book lives up to it's name. It's dark and the characters go through things you would never want someone to have to go through. Your heart breaks with them and heals with them. This is an amazing story. It is darker than Michelle's other books but I promise you, you will not be disappointed.

Michelle Horst clearly came out of her comfort zone in order to write this Dark Boundaries. This is very different from. the author's previous work.
This book is dark but the author shows how the power of love could make a dark story becomes better.

5 Crazy Ass Stars!!!!!
That was some crazy twisted shit! It's all kinds of messed up but I loved it! I really enjoy reading dark romances and love when I get sucked into the story. I did just that with this story. I could not put it down. I'm eager to read more from Michelle Horst.

After reading this book, I had to take a break and really think of what I felt. So many thoughts swirled around in my head and I was thinking about it for a long time afterwards. It took me ages to figure out what I wanted to say about it afterwards. I’d read one book by this author previously, and this was so different I was really taken by surprise!
Now - straight off the bat, this is a DARK read! It won’t be for everyone. If you’re looking for a hearts and flowers romance, this is not it. If you don’t mind being taken on a twisted roller coaster of emotion, then you just might love it!
So the basic story - Kristine and her friends are kicking back their heels, travelling and pushing the boundaries of their comfort. What starts out as a seemingly harmless random meeting quickly turns into a nightmare when they are kidnapped. The story then becomes: can the girls protect themselves from the threat of physical and psychological manipulation? And what do the men holding them really want? Is there any hope of their escaping unscathed/
Firstly - did the book evoke emotions within me? Several. Gosh, I wasn’t quite prepared for it. In the first half I felt anything from sympathy to revulsion. The horror of what they went through? I shuddered several times.
Garrett was such a dark personality. I didn’t know whether I was sympathising with him or despising him at times! He was not, in my mind a romantic hero but rather perhaps the person who learns the most out of this experience. Kristine - it’s so hard to imagine how someone can make it through what she does and remain intact, and honestly, she isn’t. She’s changed forever by her experience, but she fights hard all the way and I admired her for that. Both of their actions and thoughts seemed inconsistent at times, but that wasn’t unexpected given the traumatic circumstances that they are all caught up in.
I didn’t really think of Dark Boundaries as a romance, the darkness in the relationship of these two just made it hard for me to go there. But it is still a love story of sorts, and as disturbing as it seems, the characters somehow need to go through their journey and their growing attachment is unsettling yet understandable. And considering the ‘dark boundaries’ they were forced to cross, a story filled with romance and flowers is hardly to be expected. Confronting lessons are learned along the way for sure. It’s not a pretty story, that’s for sure. It’s gritty, unconventional, and definitely kept me turning the page. Any book that has me so torn up, twisted and conflicted is one I won’t forget in a hurry, and I wait (somewhat nervously) for the next in the series!

But through the darkness and horrible brutality, there is the emotion of hope, trust and self worth.
It’s about a girl struggling to live her life the best she can after being tortured, humiliated and treated like an animal.
It’s about a guy who struggles internally with the harsh reality of taking girls, using them as pawns to reach his ultimate goal.
We absolutely loved Dark Boundaries and we cannot thank Michelle Horst enough for giving us the opportunity to read and review Dark Boundaries. We cannot wait for the second instalment.

Dark Boundaries lives up to its name! I felt truly conflicted about how to feel about this in the darkest parts of the story surrounding a group of men kidnapping the the group of women we initially meet; Riza, Kelly and Kristine (Kris). The horror and torment faced by the men subjecting the girls to what lies ahead makes your blood turn cold. I truly didn't know if I could read more but I hung on in there and I'm pleased I did.

Now all that's left is this nightmare.
Warren, one of the lead gang members is sadistic and heartless. Treating the girls like a piece of meat. He was truly a monster. But the one saviour of Kristine (our leading lady) would eventually be her saviour.

I close my eyes and a wave of nausea hits. I always knew Warren was the worst of the lot. Garret protected me and i threw it all back in his face. I hope I get to tell him how sorry I am. I hope I make it through this.
Garret had his reasons behind being the monster he lead Kristine to believe he was. It was Kristines life for for his sister. A life for a life. But he knew himself that he wasn't a monster. He wasn't one of them. He couldn't be. No matter how hard he tried. But with an upcoming auction, he just had to save her. But at what cost?
Kristine and Riza are both paid for at the auction and we fear for their safety. But being sold to different people meant them being separated - the best friends, more like sisters, who u til that point had been living their hell within close proximity.

As the girls try to piece their lives back together, we see their true strength. But also the emotional scars they have been left with. A truly chilling read with a a really good plot. If you like dark, then this story is definitely for you and I would highly recommend. I can't edit to read the next instalment from Michelle Horst (Cruel Boundaries).

They head off to Vegas for a fun girls weekend. Little do they know what lies ahead of them. One night of partying will forever change their lives when they are kidnapped in order to be sold in a horrible human trafficking ring.
Garrett will do anything to save his little sister! Andrea has been missing for years. He and Justin have been looking for her, and are so close to finding their little sister. They will do just about anything to bring her back to their family. Will they be able to see their mission through to the end, or will they blow their cover in this underground world?
This novel is not your typical romance novel. It has dark themes and some scenes that may be upsetting to some readers. The darker parts of the story are not throughout the entire book. There is a love story with the all important HEA that comes out the the darkness. There were some very suspenseful times that had me biting my nails at a few points. I definitely shed a few tears. I got angry at the characters, and felt sorry for their journeys that brought them together. I will honestly say that I did struggle with the theme of kidnapping and human trafficking, but Ms. Horst was able to capture me with the love story part enough to keep reading.
