About the author

KELLY THOMPSON has a degree in Sequential Art from The Savannah College of Art & Design. Her love of comics and superheroes have compelled her since she first discovered them as a teenager. Currently living in Portland, Oregon with her boyfriend and the two brilliant cats that run their lives, you can find Kelly all over the Internet where she is generally well liked, except where she's detested.

Kelly has published two novels - THE GIRL WHO WOULD BE KING (2012) and STORYKILLER (2014) and the graphic novel HEART IN A BOX from Dark Horse Comics (2015). She's currently writing ROGUE & GAMBIT, HAWKEYE, and PHASMA for Marvel Comics and GHOSTBUSTERS for IDW. Other major credits include: A-Force, Captain Marvel & The Carol Corps, Jem and The Holograms, Misfits, Power Rangers Pink, and the creator-owned mini-series Mega Princess.

Kelly's ambitions are eclipsed only by her desire to exist entirely in pajamas. Fortunately pajamas and writers go hand in hand (most of the time). Please buy all her stuff so that she can buy (and wear) more pajamas.

PT Não sou propriamente fã da Mulher-Maravilha. Nunca li nada desta personagem que fosse suficientemente marcante para me conquistar. Resolvi pegar neste novo título sobretudo por causa do entusiasmo generalizado à sua volta — queria confirmar por mim próprio se era realmente assim tão bom.

O universo Absolute surgiu em força e está a redefinir vários super-heróis populares, e a Mulher-Maravilha é um dos exemplos mais interessantes desse movimento.

Gostei muito do que Kelly Thompson e Hayden Sherman estão a construir com esta nova versão da heroína clássica. Não há aqui diálogos que procurem sublinhar constantemente o facto de a personagem ser uma mulher ou discursos a exaltar a força feminina. Nada disso. O que temos é simplesmente uma figura maior do que a vida, defensora da justiça e do bem, e guardiã da Humanidade. Não é preciso que isso seja explicado — basta olhar para ela.

Adorei esta interpretação da Mulher-Maravilha e é entusiasmante ver a DC a conseguir reinventar os seus heróis clássicos, trazendo as suas histórias para o topo do que de melhor se faz actualmente na indústria americana de banda desenhada. Espero que continuem a apostar nestes criadores, que merecem plenamente as críticas positivas que têm recebido.

Absolute Mulher-Maravilha é uma leitura obrigatória para qualquer fã de super-heróis e entra directamente para a lista das minhas melhores leituras do ano.

EN I’m not exactly a fan of Wonder Woman. I’ve never read anything featuring this character that was memorable enough to win me over. I picked up this new title mainly because of all the praise surrounding it — I wanted to see for myself whether it was really that good.

The Absolute universe has arrived in force and is redefining several popular superheroes, and Wonder Woman is one of the most interesting examples of that shift.

I really enjoyed what Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman are building with this new version of the classic heroine. There are no dialogues here constantly underlining the fact that the character is a woman or speeches celebrating female strength. None of that. What we get instead is a figure larger than life, a defender of justice and good, and a guardian of Humanity. There’s no need to spell it out — we have eyes.

I loved this take on Wonder Woman, and it’s exciting to see DC successfully reinventing its classic heroes and bringing their stories to the forefront of the best work currently being done in the American comic book industry. I hope they continue to invest in these creators, who fully deserve the positive critical reception they’ve been receiving.

Absolute Wonder Woman is essential reading for any superhero fan and goes straight onto my list of best reads of the year.

Este foi o último gibi da Trindade da DC Comics que faz parte da linha Absolute que li. Ele é de longe o mais ousado e o que é mais agradável de ler com as novas roupagens dadas ao personagem título. Talvez eu nem precise elogiar muito a arte de Hayden Sherman, que tem um tanto de sombrio e um tanto de inocência, já que ele foi muito aplaudido por aí. Tem uma sequência que mostra o crescimento de Diana vivendo no Inferno com a feiticeira Circe que é sensacional, um uso fantástico da narrativa visual. Thompson e Sherman nos fazem perder naqueles quadros de página dupla para entender os detalhes da mudança tanto no cenário como no comportamento das personagens. A relação de Diana e Steve Trevor e a forma como a Mulher-Maravilha se impõe sobre os militares é super necessária nos tempos trogloditas que vivemos. Nesta roupagem, Diana está mais envolvida com a magia e o sobrenatural do que nunca, mais sombria do que nunca, mais imponente do que nunca. E, olha, eu, que não gosto muito dessas coisas grim'n'gritty, tive que dar meu braço a torcer.
