A delightful read allowing me to step back in time and see how fast time really does fly - how lucky we are of the technology advancements from color television with one channel to mobile cellphones, in one lifetime. This is the story of my uncle’s career as a TV store owner, in a small town in MN; his life choices and where they took him in his career. He was lucky enough to have developed good friends and a business partner while he grew his business through hard work and determination.
This book felt special because the author took the time to document her father’s career and preserve his story. What a personal and meaningful way to honor a parent!
It is more than a tribute to a man’s career; it’s a reminder of a different era — one rooted in craftsmanship, service, and pride in one’s work. It left me nostalgic and reflective of my childhood when families gathered around big clunky televisions with antennas or rabbit ears.
Side note - When I bought my cabin in Central MN, I discovered five defunct televisions and two enormous antennas tucked away in the attic. Reading this story made me wonder whether the author’s father might have sold one of those very sets to the previous owner.
