He’s my opposing counsel, a billionaire, and the man I never got over. Now we’re on opposite sides of the most important case of my career, and walking away is not an option.
Adrian Steele is my rival, my almost, and my biggest mistake.
Five years ago, we crossed a line that changed everything between us.
Now he’s back, harder to read and impossible to beat in the courtroom.
And somehow more dangerous when we’re alone.
Every argument feels like a dare. One look holds too long. The distance between us tightens, pulling us back toward the line we swore we would not cross.
The tension never left. It waited.
Winning this case means keeping my distance. Losing means risking everything I rebuilt without him.
Adrian Steele does not just want the verdict.
He wants me.
A high-heat, high-stakes enemies-to-lovers billionaire courtroom romance about second chances, power, and the kind of chemistry no courtroom can contain.
This was my first Brandy Garr book and it will be my last. WAY too many adjectives to describe the emotions of the characters and nothing else. I couldn't get into the story because of it. I felt like the whole book was just describing the characters feelings with barely any actual plot or scenes. The couple had gotten back together after 5 years but there was no background about what happened, why they broke up, nothing. And all the emotions were very soft.
Not angry. Not happy. Just flat.
And the book has prose exactly like that on every or every other page.
And zero spice. So if youre looking for a book that reads more like a poem, this is for you. If you expect scene and character building, you may not like it.

I didn’t know what to expect with this story. I’ll be completely honest, I’m still not sure what to expect… the story didn’t feel complete. Not in the way that there was no beginning, middle, and end. There kind of was. However, so much of the story felt like it was missing. I didn’t feel a draw to any of the characters because the only thing we know about them is that they’re addicted to each other. Secondary characters are introduced with little to no value in the story. I’m not really sure what the conflict was supposed to be. I think there needed to be quite a bit more development for me to score this any higher. The two stars is because there was a few chapters somewhere in the middle that invoked some emotion.
This is the perfect romance book to have your body humming with excitement. I had a hard time wanting to go to bed at a decent hour all because of Adrian and Elena and the story they deliver. Holy moly what a fantastic 5/5-star book Brandi write. I feel bad because I read this book faster than she wrote it.
A captivating novel that offers rich, atmospheric descriptions of the setting, painting vivid scenes of urban landscapes and atmospheric conditions. While the prose beautifully captures environmental nuances, the narrative could benefit from deeper exploration of interpersonal dynamics and emotional connections between the characters.
I received this book as a Goodreads giveaway. However I only got 70% through the book before I DNFd. There was definitely chemistry between the characters. However, I was so confused on the history and how they got to where they were, not much plot at all and it just really didn’t work for me.
I don't think this story is for me. It was a miss. The best way I can describe it was that it was just weird. The plot concept was interesting but it was a mess overall. It was hard for me to overlook inconsistencies in the story. Adrian and Elena had a very complex relationship but some things just didn't hit right for me.
