I'll start by saying that my spoken Norwegian is not at all great, but I can read most books without hassle.
I went through this recently in the hopes of finding resources for a friend, having found a cheap copy in a charity shop. As far as I know, this book and the CDs are no longer printed.
In my opinion, it is just as well. I hesitate to place the blame primarily on the author; it is not like the book offers incorrect information. Rather, it is that the book provides so little information. Most of the dialogues are completely transparent to someone who knows no Norwegian at all (I had my friend go through some of them to check), meaning that aside from being given a set of phrases one can memorise (duolingo style), you are effectively no closer at all to learning to speak the language.
The book's biggest asset is the set of listening exercises at the end; had there been more of these I'd have been happy to add a star or two.
I'd advise people to put the money towards a decent dictionary or grammar instead; there are better, free, listening resources for beginners, and even the wikipedia pages for Bokmål and Nynorsk offer up more grammatical information than the book does.
