Julian is a meek high school senior, who's just about ready to move out to the loft above his mom's garage. When his beloved Uncle Dook unexpectedly takes the apartment, they begin to play games online together. Soon, Julian suspects that something eerie is happening during these seemingly mundane gaming sessions. It seems that his uncle loses consciousness whenever they play. Most upsetting, is that these timings coincide with a series of increasingly ghastly local events.

Prepare yourself to behold a depraved astral-projected crime spree that spans from the darkest abyss of the deepest ocean to suffocating heights beyond the clouds.

'Double Dank' is a stomach-churning extreme horror novel that may upset some readers! Proceed at your own risk!

Hello Mysterious Stranger!

As of writing this I've just launched my third extreme horror book. Before this I was primarily a movie guy, pursuing indie films and writing screenplays. Anyhow three years into novel writing, and I am still loving exploring this twisted genre.

I still hope to make films and other art along the way too. I have a decidedly less extreme micro budget web-series deep in post production, which is more of an 'emotional horror' but perhaps to most a black comedy. Will keep you posted on that!

In the mean time, feel free to check out some of my films on vimeo; www.vimeo.com/godinthegrass.

And thanks for sampling my bizarre brand of transgressive horror!

I had the privilege of reading Double Dank, the latest from Darryl Shaw, early as well as writing the foreword for it. And it was such a blast. A truly unique concept—an astral projecting killer/deviant—bolstered by a wide cast of interesting characters, creative death sequences, and some dark humor. It's unpredictable, entertaining, and *extreme*. As I mentioned in the foreword, the death scenes reminded me of those you'd find in a Final Destination movie. Fun, memorable stuff!

If you're looking for something fresh and sleazy, you can't go wrong with this one! Enjoy!

Double Dank is about Dook.

He is a one-of-a-kind guy!

He is a family man, a father, an uncle, and a killer. Oh, and he can do astral projection. No one is safe when they are around good ol’ Dook. Well…bad ol’ Dook.

This book is no different from Darryl’s previous novel, Celebrity Sundae, in that he is willing to push things to the extreme. This one especially does not hold back. It reads fast, too. The story maintains a strong pace while still giving space for important, character moments, allowing us to understand them more deeply, even as their actions grow more questionable as the plot unfolds.

There are plenty of scenes that will overwhelm the squeamish, but for those who love and embrace Extreme Horror as a subgenre, this is a must! The kills are wildly creative, rivaling the likes of the Terrifier movies. But what truly elevates this novel is Dook himself, one of the most ruthless villains I’ve come across. His actions, his methods, are so menacing and brutal, grounded in the underlying theme of a man simply fighting his age.

He could be watching you, without even realizing it, and it heightens the story’s tension and suspense. And the mysticism was made with such precision.

From the very first page to the last, I was glued, constantly wondering what would happen next to these amazing characters Darryl has created. For a story that gets as gory as it does, this still feels like a fresh take on the supernatural, something I feel is often overused or used poorly. Here, it feels new again, with set pieces that feel incredibly cinematic thanks to Darryl’s filmmaking background.

He is able to shoot these scenes from different angles with words, especially when it comes to crafting action sequences. I wouldn’t even call it action necessarily, but there are some intense and exciting scenes that come along if you’re willing to stick around for the ride. The middle portion and the ending were some of the most amazing things I have read in a long while.

While I have wished things would have gone differently for characters like Julian, Adelaide, and Alvin, that only proves how well they’re written. I genuinely cared about what happened to them.

Double Dank is an incredibly engaging novel, following in the footsteps of great Extreme writers like Aron Beauregard but with a voice entirely its own.

Darryl is an amazing writer, and I’m excited to see what comes next!

This third novel from the author Darryl Shaw was my favorite of his so far. It hit the sweet spot for me. It has a complex, well woven story with intersting and fun characters (some you love, some you hate, and some you just feel sorry for). It's full of action, tension, horror and gory, graphic violence. The humour and wacky madness made the whole thing so much fun. The vivid and colourful villain was a highlight for me. I recommend this to any horror and extreme horror fans. There are some potentially, highly offensive elements. That's a plus for me! But you've been warned.

Julian lives a relatively average life. Till his uncle moves in. Strange things started happening around him. Julian believes his uncle is responsible. Yet the explanation isn’t really believable. Can Julian stop his uncle? Or will Julian fail?

Highly recommend this book if you are looking for something different than your usual horror. I loved this book. it gave me an adrenaline rush that left me craving for more.

Astral projection! Mysterious deaths! Graphic violence!

If you like any, or all of these things, then Double Dank is a must read. Though geared toward those that enjoy extreme horror, the story itself would stand solid without the gut-wrenchingly detailed death scenes. My personal favourite was the entire hospital section, which earned it the 5 star alone.

Thank you Daryl, for the Advanced copy!
