A cosmic disaster has struck the territory of Uh. A portal to the Darkworld has opened.
With the portal open, the Demon King Oh—the god of destruction and chaos—will extend an empire of supermarkets that will make the territory an industrious wasteland full of slaves.
DJ is the only one who has heard the Demon King’s plans firsthand, and with Sir Dashing kidnapped and employed by the evil god, DJ is the only one equipped to stop the incoming terror.
With the help of Riley, Francis, and Steve, DJ will embark on another grand quest not for respect, but for survival.
Aaron N. Hall is the author of the The Legend of Uh, The Wevlian Chronicles, the Hammerfist series, and multiple collections of stories and poems. When he’s not writing (which isn’t often), he’s doing nonprofit work, lifting heavy things, reading a book, or sipping a cup of tea. He lives in Utah.
Aaron is now an auto buy author for me. Both Legend of Uh books are so much fun! Mr. Hall! Can I please have a Waffle Wizard backstory book please (or trilogy of books)??
The Second Legend of Uh follows a group of unlikely adventurers as they continue their chaotic and often hilarious journey, navigating unexpected dangers, strange encounters, and the kind of absurd situations that somehow keep escalating. This is an adventure story that leans heavily into humor and character dynamics, making the journey just as important as whatever goal they’re chasing.
I had such a great time with this book. It’s one of those stories that isn’t overly complex, but still manages to deliver a genuinely engaging adventure with a lot of heart behind it.
What really stood out to me was how effortlessly the humor is woven into the story and it gives the characters so much personality. They each bring something different to the table, and their interactions feel natural and fun. That said, Steve completely stole the show for me. He’s such a bright and optimistic character—his presence, his timing, his frying pan, the way he fits into everything—that made him my favorite without question.
Overall, it’s a really entertaining continuation that balances humor, character development, and adventure in a way that keeps you turning the pages. If you’re looking for something lighthearted but still meaningful, this is definitely worth picking up.
Thank you to Aaron for giving me this opportunity to read his eARC.
DNF @ 75 % Aaron N. Hall’s The Second Legend of Uh returns readers to the wonderfully strange territory of Uh, where a catastrophic rift to the Darkworld threatens to plunge the realm into chaos under the rule of the Demon King Oh. As DJ and his companions race to prevent the destruction of their world, they reunite with familiar faces from their previous adventure while navigating monsters, bizarre encounters, and increasingly dire stakes.
One of the things I loved most about the first book was its wild creativity, and this sequel still carries those same Adventure Time style vibes. The territory of Uh remains colorful, absurd, and packed with eccentric characters. Seeing the Waffles Wizard again genuinely made me smile because he continues to be one of the funniest and most delightfully ridiculous creations in the series. Every time he appeared, the book briefly recaptured the charm and unpredictability that made the first installment so enjoyable for me.
Unfortunately, much of the story felt repetitive rather than fresh. The group’s journey often came across like a checklist of returning side characters instead of a natural progression of the adventure. I normally enjoy callbacks and recurring characters, but here they felt formulaic, almost as if the story was retracing the exact same steps as the first book without adding enough new ideas to justify it.
I also struggled with the pacing and priorities of the plot. The novel opens with an urgent, high stakes threat involving the possible destruction of the realm and danger to DJ’s father, yet the story repeatedly detours into unnecessary side quests. While DJ understands the severity of the situation, he still goes along with distractions largely to satisfy relationship drama that felt frustrating rather than engaging. Oddly enough, the teenage romance itself bothered me less than the fact that the characters seemed unwilling to treat the apocalypse with the urgency it deserved.
By the halfway point, I found myself increasingly disappointed because I had adored the first book and kept hoping this one would regain its momentum. Instead, the humor that made the original so memorable rarely landed for me, and the story continued to feel more like a weaker retread than a meaningful continuation. I ultimately stopped reading around the 75% mark because I had lost hope that the experience would improve, which honestly made me sad. I always want to champion indie books, especially when the first installment impressed me so much, but this sequel simply never recaptured the magic of its predecessor.
The Legend of Uh books are just fun. I love the adventures and mis-adventures of DJ and crew. One question though…who really is the waffle wizard? Hmm… Can’t wait for the next book!
The second installment in this series slaps just as hard as the first. Aaron N. Hall again manages to take you on a heartfelt quest while sneaking in modern parallels and still having fun with it. Absolutely loved this. Can’t wait for the next one.
I am absolutely, utterly astounded at what Hall has done here. Everything that was great about the first Legend of Uh is here and is also dialed up to 11, most especially including DJ's emotional arc. This is absolutely the kind of book teenagers need, something that will help them name and wrangle their big feelings, while remaining hysterically funny and action-packed. I am so, so excited to see what comes next for DJ and the gang.
Absolutely loved this book. The characters are what make it... DJ especially. His emotions feel very real and raw, and you can genuinely see him grow over the course of the series, which made me even more invested in his journey.
The team dynamic is honestly one of the best parts. The crew feels real, and the banter between them is top tier. The author did a phenomenal job developing each character, keeping them consistent, and actually involving everyone in a meaningful way throughout the story.
It’s a super fun, fast paced read that kept me hooked the whole time. I also really appreciated how a lot of things came full circle by the end.
Overall, a great continuation and I’m definitely looking forward to the next one.
If I could describe this book it would be if The Princess Bride and The Lord of the Rings had a cute humorous child. Give me all the feel good adventures. I absolutely love the small hidden references that make me giggle. I mean come on we need more laughter in our lives during the chaos and this book really pulls through. This tale will leave your heart full and wanting more. I will always recommend this book to whoever I meet.
This was such a fun read!! Funny one liners, great references throughout, just comedy gold. Did not want to put it down once I got started. Will definitely be recommending this one and rereading it myself. Well done.
Same lovable cast and just as much heart. But in the Second Legend of Uh, the baddies are badder, the emotions hit harder, and the fate of the realm rests on the shoulders of a teen just trying to do his best.
One of my favorite things about this book—besides Friar Steve (GODDESS BLESS HIM)—is that the main characters feel so true to their age and circumstances. We feel DJ’s angst and anxiety, the tension hits home. But still, it’s all wrapped in a warm cloak (that smells a little like fresh wizard waffles), and delivers that cozy, chaotic goodness we love to see from Aaron N. Hall.
In short: 5/5 🧇 would recommend. It’s even more delightful than the first!
So, this one helped the characters to grow on me a little more. I think he writes the teenagers well, and to me it's personally frustrating, but I do really enjoy the story. I want more Steve. I loved some of the new characters and I can already see the growth from the first book so I would definitely continue in the series. Also, great for readers who want no spice, silliness, fantasy and a whimsical D&D vibe.
Just as fun and compelling as the first one, but with a bit darker/ real tones . Love the character development, these books were a blast to listen to.
Really appreciate Hall adding the full duology to YouTube, especially right after this one's release!
Yes!!! This is everything I wanted and more!! Steve is becoming my favorite! I love how we get to see more of the emotional sides of the characters. There was only one part of this book that was predictable but I love how DJ and his gang figure it out. I love the support for each other you see, I love their camaraderie, and I love the loyalty and devotion to friends and between Dj and his dad. I just love this book!! Seriously if you haven’t read this (or book 1) you ARE missing out!!
THIS WAS SO FUN!!! Literally couldn’t sleep before finishing. Cozy, funny, and fast-paced; can’t ask for much more. Can’t wait for more adventures from DJ and friends!
This is a mixed bag. The characters are awesome. I just adore Steve. I also like the feeling of „it’s a DnD group being their chaos selves“.
The inclusion of modern items like elevators and capitalism threw me off. Also I can not get over the MC being so hung up on his „girlfriend“ with his feelings not changing and evolving for a long time. Although DJ is 15 I did expect more.
Also that women are viewed as trophy and more like objects not subjects (Father being proud of his son having a girlfriend, admiring the nerd for his half-demon wife, of course one has to notice how pretty a mermaid is,…) put me off.
I enjoyed the book, but it somehow feels lesser than part 1.
The legendary Aaron Hall is back with a second installment to one of my most favorite indie books. The Second Legend of Uh is another masterfully crafted tale that picks up shortly after the conclusion of book one. DJ and his package deal crew are brought back together for another adventure after a mysterious portal to the Darkworld opens. Its prime resident, the Demon King “Oh”, is ready to exact destruction upon the territory of Uh. How you might ask? The establishment of industrial supermarkets that will turn all persons and creatures into corporate slaves.
For those who read the first book, you will be delighted to return to a familiar setting in the territory of Uh. All the world building from book one gets expanded on as our rag tag group of adventurers trek across the land to find ancient knowledge to close the portal. Even with visiting places they have been prior, new and exciting locations are revealed. From a grand dwarven city to a sunken underwater temple, Aaron gradually expands his world allowing for both feelings of familiarity and uncertainty. Furthermore, readers are exposed to the Darkworld. This hellish landscape is reminiscent of a corporate building, proving some unique yet hilarious interactions and dialogue. I do want to point out that while some readers might not wish to visit the same places from a previous book, I embraced this as it gave the feeling that’s akin to returning to your childhood home after a long time away.
“This, my dear boy,” Sir Dashing said, “is an Amulet of Fastra Vel. Extremely rare and valuable—frankly worth more than this house. When you wear it, you can instantly travel to anywhere you've previously been.”
For our colorful cast of characters, DJ, Riley, Francis, and Steve all make their grand return. As a reader, I didn’t think these characters could be developed much further than they were in the first book. However, I found myself genuinely surprised as tensions and conflict arose within the group. As problems arise, DJ must learn how to navigate these new experiences while also attempting to keep the crew together and focused on their goal. The growth and change that the characters undergo feels believable and genuine.
Another aspect I highly enjoyed that is present in this novel and not in the first is the larger incorporation of DJ's father, the legendary Sir Dashing. This book dug extra deep into the overflowing love and support Sir Dashing feels for his son. Additionally, we finally get to see his prowess and intelligence in a high stakes situation.
“DJ pushed down a gulp in his dry throat. He picked up a cologne called Sexy Ranger Dramatically Pushing Castle Doors Open After Returning From Battle, spritzed it on his wrist and gave it a whiff. His lower lip tightened.”
As with the first installment, The Second Legend of Uh is a masterclass of fantasy adventure. Aaron had shared with me in the previous year that he was going to write a second book and it was always at the front of my mind. The wait was well worth it and this book is easily one of my most favorite indie books of 2026. The feeling of being reunited with familiar characters we have come to love, the diverse locations in the territory of Uh, and the nonstop whip fast humor and adventure gives you a sense of comfort. After reading the acknowledgements at the end of the book, I can proudly say I will be waiting with bated breath for The Third Legend of Uh!
Rare is the sequel that actually builds on a series’ first entry. The Empire Strikes Back, Deadhouse Gates, Shrek 2. And now, The Second Legend of Uh.
I thoroughly enjoyed returning to the province of Uh. This world is so fun and full of life, and I love spending time with these characters. It was awesome to see a story with higher stakes in this world, and I thought Hall’s writing was just as funny and heartfelt this time around.
Put simply, if you enjoyed The Legend of Uh, you should read the sequel.
The second legend of uh is an emotional high stakes fantasy adventure that explores love, loss, and self acceptance in a way that is accessible to a wide rang of readers and age groups.

It took me a minute to parse out how I felt about DJ and crew visiting many of the same places they visited in book one.
BUUUUUUT
Instead of a rehash of the same plot, it was a purposeful continuation of the conflicts we are introduced to in DJ’s quest for the brassiere, and it added depth to the overall story.

I am so happy to not be a teenager anymore!
DJ was really rubbing me the wrong way, until I remembered that he was just a 16 year old boy trying to save the entire world. I was expecting from him the emotional maturity of a grown man, and that was unreasonable.
Hall does a great job writing DJ as a flawed teen who grows through his experiences and failures.
—
Hall has a skill with landing jokes about heavy social topics in silly and accessible ways. For example, he calls out classism and racism in a way that does not diminish the seriousness of those injustices but DOES call out the perpetrators as ridiculous.
It was a stand out in book one and is a stand out in book two as well.

Sir Dashing lore drop in this installment really had me loving him even more.
I will ride or die for Sir Dashing, and fight anyone who says anything bad about him ever.
He’s just such a good dad that loves his son more than anything in the whole world!
Thank you Aaron for the opportunity to review an ARC. I just love this world you've created 😊
"He leaned back in his chair coolly as if to say checkmate, then he went back to his smutty orc book." 🤣
I can't get enough of this world.... it feels like a warm hug.
We set off on another adventure in book two, with much more at stake. The main characters' growth throughout this book is sublime to read, and I feel 100% invested in their wellbeing and their stories.
The story sees the characters experience various strange encounters, dangerous creatures and circumstances, all while keeping a good sense of humour and blind faith...with a little help from the Waffle Wizard (we definitely need a prequel novella focussing on the Waffle Wizard's story).
Friendship, love, family, faith and honesty are themes that carry through this story, and the unique challenges and humour throughout really set this series apart from your normal fantasy novel.
Just let me start off by saying how happy I am that Aaron decided to keep writing on what was supposed to only be a standalone. Because this is a great comedy fantasy series! Because even if book 1 left off satisfying, I still couldn't let go off this awesome and funny world.
There is so much fun and exciting stuff happening in these 300 pages, with everything from side quest, stubborn old mages, to familar faces you loved and hated in book 1. There is so much to laugh about, and a few enemies to make you want to hit something. With how annoying but awesome they are.
The stakes are higher and the adventure is more dangerous and funnier than The Legend of Uh. With beautiful friendship all around.
With this being a book that did visit many of the places that was in book 1. I do hope the next one will have less of those places, and expand a bit more on the world.
If you love having a good time with a funny adventure, this is for you.
📖 In this book, we join DJ, Riley, Francis and Steve on their next adventure through Uh.
This one starts off with a slightly drunk witch making soup. What could possibly go wrong? With an intro like that, I know I’m in for an adventure.
This one, unfortunately, wasn’t as amazing for me as the first book. It was feeling a bit repetitive, mostly because the group found themselves in the same or similar situations as in book 1. It also has a lot of character development with DJ working through his anxiety, although the other characters felt like they were mostly in the background. All or almost all of the side characters we met in book 1 return in this book, which was pretty cool. Despite not loving this one as much, I still had a lot of fun reading it. I can’t wait to see what adventures this group will go on next.
I devoured this book!! I finished this book in one sitting.
I love the writing style so much, it is somehow suspenseful, cozy, and hilarious at the same time. The characters were super easy to root for. I love how they get up to tomfoolery and also were trying to accomplish a very serious task.
I really liked DJ in this book, he was a super relatable character. I think he developed so well in the book and was so nice to see his growth. Francis, Riley, and Steve were also such fun characters to see them interact. There was such a good dynamic between them all.
Aaron has quickly become a favorite author, I love his book and it is such a good sequel. I actually think I enjoyed this sequel more than the first book, which is a crazy statement.
Oh how happy I am to be back with this group of misfits and their next adventure. I absolutely loved the first book but this one shines a bit brighter for me. The growth of these characters, the puns and humor, and the emotions had me loving every bit of this. Aaron is an auto buy author for me and I can't wait to see where this series will go.
Reading this felt a lot like watching the tv show adventure time. You have lots of laughs but the lessons are there and the found family/friendship is so heavy you can help but feel full and happy after reading it.
Aaron has done it again! This book builds perfectly of the first entry in the series. I enjoyed spending time with DJ, Riley, Francis and Steve again as well as many other familiar characters from the first entry. The stakes were higher and everyone rises to the occasion. It was full of funny moments, while also having some heartfelt moments that really make you feel for each of the characters. I would highly recommend this to anyone that enjoyed the first book, as well as recommended the whole series to anyone who lives fantasy stories with a side of heart and laughs.
The Second Legend of Uh never really captured the same magic as the first book for me. Too much of the story felt repetitive, with the adventure coming across more like a checklist of returning characters and familiar moments than something fresh.
I also struggled with the pacing. The book opens with a world-ending threat and danger to DJ’s father, but the story keeps getting sidetracked by side quests and relationship drama that make the stakes feel oddly unimportant. I still enjoyed being back in this world, but this sequel felt far less focused and memorable than the original.
