BLURBOne bad decision, one reckless night, and one run in with his demons left Trevor McCall suspended in an unbreachable sleep.
Thanks to a cutting-edge-medical trial, Trevor wakes from his ten-year-long slumber to a world that’s completely changed. His body is broken, his family ties are in tatters, his dreams and memory are long gone, leaving him wondering why he’s still alive, and what he has left to live for.
With the death of her ruthless brother, Dr. Brook Davenport has been given a chance at redemption for a night that has haunted her for the last ten years. She returns to the home she’s avoided all those years in hopes of healing her savior.
As the secrets of their shared past are exposed, Trevor and Brooke fight to right the wrongs, putting their hearts and lives at risk in the process.
When it seems the world is against them, will love be enough to save them?
I cannot tell you how excited I was for this book! When Trevor and everything was introduced I had so many questions. I love that this book not only answered them but gave me background and a better understanding of all the characters. I really enjoyed the flow of the story and I couldn’t put the book down because I absolutely had to see where it went and what would happen next. I seriously cannot wait to see what is in store for Elena Shores.
I initially rated this book 4 stars but changed my mind to 5 stars. Trevor and Brooklyn are both strong main characters who have overcome much in their lives. Trevor recovering from an accident leaving him in a coma and Brooklyn dealing with invisibility from her family. The plot develops well and moves forward at a good pace. It provides insight into TBI and recovery although it reminds us that not everyone makes the same recovery as Trevor did. An emotional and suspenseful journey that was enjoyable to read. I look forward to more of the Elena series.
As a TBI survivor myself, I was really looking forward to Trevor’s book. No two TBIs are alike, and no two TBI survivors have the same journey. Talking to DeDe Ramey about my experience was very cathartic for me, as was seeing some of my journey woven into Trevor’s. It was a beautiful story that kept me on the edge of my seat. I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
This is charming, engaging book. So glad to get Trevor’s story. And Brooklyn is a compelling lead character—smart, capable, but also vulnerable. The story just pulls you in and takes you for the ride!
Awaken Me is the second (#2) book in the Elena series
Following a devastating car accident Trevor McCall is left in a coma. A coma that lasted a decade. Thanks to his brother’s determination Trevor is enrolled in a leading edge medical trial and finally awakens to a life entirely different from the one 18 year old him knew.
When his care is taken over by Dr Brooke Davenport, his progress increases dramatically- thanks to Brooke’s relentless determination to help him succeed. Determination that has Trevor nicknaming her ‘ The Evil Fairy’.
As the pair work together their relationship matures and they both find themselves fighting the undoubted chemistry between them but Brooke has deep, dangerous secrets that puts them both at risk, secrets she can’t share…

This was my first read of a DeDe Ramey book and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
The book has an interesting premise, following Trevor’s recovery from the injuries sustained in his accident and revealing Brooke’s secrets and her previous connection to Trevor’s family.
I thought the relationship between Brooke and Trevor was well written and believable, and I enjoyed both of their characters.
There is subtle threat throughout the story and a clever plot twist towards the end.
I read an ebook copy of this book. At around 350+ pages, and with a male model cover and super editing, this was a great read.
With thanks to DeDe Ramey and BookFunnel for an early copy of this book. All comments are my own honest, unbiased opinion.
🐈 Close Proximity 🐈 Friends to Lovers 🐈 Reasonably spicy 🔥🔥🔥 🐈 Forbidden Romance 🐈 Doctor/Patient
Trevor and Brooklyn deliver an emotionally charged, high-tension ride that never lets up. The story launches at full speed, immediately pulling you in and keeping you guessing at every turn. Trevor is impossible not to admire—his charm, resilience, and quiet strength make him deeply endearing. Brooklyn breaks your heart, yet earns your respect as she faces her truth and chooses her own path.
Their dynamic crackles with chemistry, layered with flirting and heat, while suspense hums constantly in the background, refusing to loosen its grip. Even as answers begin to surface, new confusion and frustration emerge, keeping the stakes high. Through it all, the strength of family love stands firm when everything else threatens to fall apart. A gripping blend of romance and suspense that showcases impressive storytelling.
First of all....Evil TInkerbell, that nickname had me giggling. Trevor and Brooke were so much fun to get to know. If you have read book one in the series (Lost Within Me) then you know Trevor has been in a coma for a decade but with the help of his older brother, Rowdy, and modern medicine he is brought out of the coma. Now he needs to learn living all over again. Enter evil Tinkerbell, aka Brooke, his doctor that will aid in his recovery. HIs progress moves along at a quick pace and just as he is starting to live again ghosts from his past show up.
I loved Trevor and Brooke together. He is such a goofball with his dad jokes and sunshine personality and yet fiercely protective at the same time. He is so determined to have a chance with Brooke and who is she to deny him because she feels just as strongly for him as he does her. She is torn in so many different moral directions though with obstacles like her job and her family history. I love how she finds comfort in Trevor's arms and his safety is her priority.
The connection between Brooke and Trevor is so strong and the way that Trevor doesn't care about what anyone has to say about them will have the reader loving him. He truly is one of those perfect MMCs. He will not let anything stand in the way of getting an HEA with her. With Trevor by her side Brooke finally gets to live the life she deserves with no shadows lurking from her past.
