ARC Review: A Thread of Fate and Ruin

THE WHAT:
We’re back at Drakestone Academy with Elvana and her friends as they’re thrown into a battle of good versus darkness that tests them all in different ways. Elvana discovers she’s magically bound to the dangerous Samael, and their connection could either save the world—or be the thing that destroys it.
THE VIBE:
Slow-burn, dark academia, emotionally heavy, world-building, constant tension, chosen family, friends to lovers, good versus evil, academy setting.
THE HOW:
The story unfolds gradually, with a strong focus on character development and detailed world/scene building. The first half moves slowly but the second half picks up with tension, action and emotional payoff.
THE HIT:
The authors writing is beautiful and very descriptive. She fully develops her characters, and her ability to build and hold tension pulls you into the story. Once the plot and pace picks up, it’s hard to put down.
THE MISS:
It’s a long book, and the pacing in the first half is slow. If you prefer fast starts or constant action, it may take some patience to get fully hooked.
THE REC:
I recommend this read to those readers who love detailed fantasy worlds, strong character development, and slow-burn tension. It is definetly worth the investment if you stick with it.

The first two books of this series were amazing. This book had me from the first scene. So many things happen in the duration of this story. Each character endures their own trials and faces their own demons.
We pick up right where we left off at Drakestone, only something has shifted. Elvana, Sam, Lydia, Leander, Julian, Beth and Edric embark on a journey so filled with darkness and shadow it’s hard to believe they will find the other side. Through their journey, loyalties will be tested, and allegiance will be revealed.
This book is long, and very much a world and story build in the first half. Once the plot digs in, you will be hard pressed to put it down. Ms Lincoln builds her characters so beautifully and the imagery she uses in her stories is profound. You can feel yourself in each moment on each page and it is truly remarkable to read.

Omg what a book this was! It’s the third book of The Echoes of the Veil series. And this one is definitely darker than the first two. But I was here for it all.
One thing I like so much was the multiple POA’s. We get to read about each character and how they lived the same event. It made me understand them better and that was such a nice addition to this book.
The found family trope is very present in this book and this is a trope that I love.
There’s so many things that are happening in this book and I couldn’t put it down. The characters are facing so many challenges and it was so easy to relate to them because their feelings were real.
The author has that touch that makes us so captivated in the story and my god can we talk about some twists (iykyk)? I’m still flabbergasted!

This book is absolutely incredible. I loved the first two, but this has my heart.
Yes, it’s long, but there is so much that happens in the book that it needs to be I felt. It’s not drawn out. It has just the right amount of detail.
It’s full of moodiness, passion, trauma, fights, darkness. It’s just written so beautifully poetic and dark.
The characters really keep growing individually and as a group too, especially Vivienne by the end.
The whole book has left me needing to take a few days to keep thinking it over because of all that’s happened and how much of an emotional rollercoaster it felt like!
With the epilogue, I can’t flipping WAIT to see what’s in store for the 4th and final book. It’s going to be absolutely epic and so action packed.
Danielle is so talented with her writing. I love being able to read her novels as ARCs and now this as a BETA. I can’t wait to buy it when it’s released in February.

I loved the first two that I read as arcs, and was honored when given the chance to be part of the beta team.
This book is by far my favourite of the 3, the twists had me reeling, the character development was A1.
My heart will forever be with Julian and his internal battles.
The audacity some of these characters have too, omg made me so mad.
That is all I will say for this review, if you read the first two, prepare yourself. If you haven’t read any of them, start book 1 now.

Obviously it's a 5 ⭐💚
The third installment in the Echoes of the Veil series.
This book is more emotionally charged than the last two, and darker. I love how Danielle really meshes mental health into her books, but not obviously. It's like all of the internal workings, everything we feel and go through, made visible for everyone to see.
I love how you can kind of tell where Danielle is working through her own very real world things in her writing of this book 💚
I'm excited for book 4, but I'm also really excited to see what's next for her after the Echoes of the Veil series is finished!

If you love a moody, lyrical, dark academia with AMAZING found family and a little bit of spice then I neeeeed you to read this book series!!
A Thread of Fate and Ruin is the third book in this dark academia series and the story just keeps getting better. The second book gave us multi POV and started to grow our found family. This third book just launched us straight into the heart of our found family. I love them so much! This multi POV story has so much going for it! There’s mystery, love stories (multiple) as well as loneliness, magical duels, and magical quests. Oh, and our MCs are all adults in their mid-twenties so that is nice as well. There is some open door spice, I would rate 3/5 🌶️🌶️🌶️. Thank you to the author for the eARC. This voluntary review is my honest thoughts and opinions about the book. I love that the books don’t leave us on a cliffhanger but they do leave us wanting more!

Just a heads up, this is part of a series, not a standalone, so starting from book one really makes Elvana's journey hot harder. Watching Elvana carry the weight of her past and her magic hurt in the best way. And Sam? Their connection is a true slow burn- full of tension, longing, and fate quietly pulling them together. Nothing feels rushed, everything feels earned! Emotionally heavy with sacrifice, destiny, and trust being tested. If you love romantasy with dangerous magic, raw feelings, this series is worth the binge. Trope: Dark Academia, Magical trials, trauma bonding, and Multiple POV

This is book 3 in the Echoes of the Veil Series and it may be my favorite book in the series. It is a little darker, the atmosphere a little drearier, the emotions heavier, and the stakes are higher. This is written so beautifully and so descriptive I was pulled right in and easily got lost in it. I’m pretty sure I ended up highlighting every other page with amazing passages that I felt and some resonated hard (in a great way). It had me emotionally invested. The character growth alone from book 1 is exceptional. It’s such a neat experience to see the characters you love grow and learn and become the person they are and/or want to be. There are additional POVs in this book which adds more depth and understanding by giving us more perspectives. I absolutely love the found family aspect and how much stronger the characters are because of one another. I think it helps them make the right decisions. There are some plot twists throughout and secrets that finally start to reveal themselves. I really enjoyed this series and highly recommend to anyone who loves dark academia, magic, magical trials, secrets, found family, and a gothic setting.

A Thread of Fate and Ruin is darker, heavier, and more emotionally intense than the first two books—and I loved every second of it. It’s a long read, but it never feels unnecessary. The detail, the character work, and the world-building all feel purposeful and deeply immersive.
The multiple POVs add so much depth, especially as the characters face their own demons and challenges. Watching them grow individually and as a group was incredibly rewarding, and the found-family dynamic shines throughout the story.
The writing is beautifully poetic and dark, with vivid imagery that makes you feel fully inside the world. Once the tension ramps up, it’s impossible to put down.
This book left me needing time to sit with everything that happened—and that epilogue? I’m absolutely not okay. I can’t wait to see how this series concludes.

This was easily my favorite book in the series so far. The pacing felt much stronger right from the beginning, and I stayed engaged the whole way through. The story finally feels like it’s hitting its stride, with higher stakes, more momentum, and a clearer sense of direction.
The academy setting and the darker, moody atmosphere continue to be big highlights for me, but what really stood out here was how much more focused and purposeful the plot felt. The world-building and magic feel more grounded in the story, and the character dynamics start to carry more emotional weight.
Overall, this one felt more confident, more exciting, and more rewarding to read than the previous installments. It really feels like the series is coming into its own here, and it definitely left me wanting to continue on to the next book.

Danielle, sweetie, we need to talk about your constant need to put my Julian in danger… I think this is the first time i’m in love with the side character more than the main. And you keep making me afraid and crying that he will die! My heart can’t take this!
And that plot twist! WHAT?! I actually yelled out loud about that! (My dog did not like it) I didn’t see that coming but boy was that amazing!
Reading this was like watching fantasy action movie! There was so much happening and those sitsuations they were, oh my gosh!
I can say, without spoiling, that Caelan is stupid s**t head! I hate him so so much.. Trying to come between a couple, and they are good couple! Tho there were times that i wanted to hit both of them. They acted so stupidly, ARGH!
So many emotions were here, so so many! I will wait patiently(a lie) for more!

What really pulled me in from the series is how unique the tests and trials that the characters have to face, and how it somehow influenced the characters' growth and their decision-making. What i feel left me doubting from the previous books on who's allies and who's not become clearer in this book, and the bond between them is heartwarming - i loved how descriptive the author is in developing the story and characters. With the addition of more POVs, adding more depth to the story while gently setting the expectation for what’s to come.

But that’s ok,that’s what we’re here for,The Emotional Damage 😂😂
✨We get multiple POV from each character and get to see how they deal with the same events in different ways!! If your a found family trope girly,this book is definitely for you..
✨The way the writing is in this book,the author pulls you in and you don’t want to leave..

Furiends let me tell you something….i love love love how @_danii.a.lincoln uses a POV for each character. And let me tell you I love Edric and Bethany. Also Julian too. He has become the comic relief of sorts but you see the reasons behind it. And it is sad really. I also like how Vivienne gets a redemption arc. And that ending whoa that was not what I was expecting. 🖤

WOW!!!! This WHOLE series has been AMAZING!!!! I was hooked from the beginning. Elvana and Sam 🥵🌶️. WOW!!!!! I love all the characters..Bethany and Edric..loving them in this book!!! Julian is still one of my faves..he makes me literally laugh out loud..but I also was heartbroken 💔 for him this book..but he always rises to the top ♥️. Leander and Lydia got closer and that made me so happy. This book had me on the edge of my seat..most of the book..but I LOVED every second of it!!! Definitely recommend!!!!!

Bewitched, I have been drawn in like a moth to a flame. Danielle describes not only the surroundings but the characters their development, has grown tremendously, since the first novel has really not only shown her growth as she over comes every lesson and hardship along her path. The Darkness surrounding her journey is not something to take lightly but the FMC really shines, like a lantern in the fog.

What the whattttt?!
This series had me on a chokehold! I dragged this story as long as I could and I’m not ready to leave this world yet! But man the found in this book got so much closer!
I cannot wait for the 4th book!

This was an amazing book. I literally was able to see the movie with how the words played out. Got me interested and intrigued. Kept me involved and wanting more!

I received this as an arc directly from Danielle Lincoln thank you so much! I will admit that I went into this book completely blind but absolutely loved it. Even being the third book in the series and not having read it prior I was not lost and understood the underlying story. The push and pull of the characters and the angst that they felt within the academy was very well thought out and descriptive. I loved the comraderie of the characters and the fullness of their development. I was kind of expecting the twist with the MMC but I was still kicking my feet with anticipation hoping for the ultimate showdown.

A Thread of Fate and Ruin is a fantasy novel filled with romance, riddles and adventures, relatable characters who have genuine struggles, and relationships that will have you falling in love. There is–as always–incredible found family vibes and amazing friendships, as well as complex and intense romantic relationships that I am truly obsessed with. This book switches between dark and ominous, funny and romantic, and intensely stressful as our cast of characters continue on their journey and work through the next steps of the adventure. And, needless to say, there are plenty of things that I absolutely adored about this book that I can’t talk about yet!
