Castle thought her life was ordinary. Until a jealous ex turned obsession into danger and pushed her straight into the Queen’s world of power, secrets and control.
There she meets King. The Queen’s favourite. Off limits. Untouchable. Definitely not hers.
They start as enemies. They become something forbidden. And with every spark between them, the Queen’s possessiveness twists into something far more lethal.
Castle never wanted any of this. But falling for the wrong man might cost her everything.
Talk about emotional rollercoaster! I loved seeing all of my favorite characters again from Mark of Amara and Wrath of Amara! The heartbreak remembering that some are no longer with us, to the rage I felt some characters actions in The Tower and wishing they were the ones no longer with us. It's got the highest of highs and the lowest of lows all around. New people we met and some that we've known from the other Obsidian Games books that could all use a swift punch to pharynx. Truly ALL emotions were felt.
The way this entire series is written makes it so easy to immerse yourself into the universe. The characters are so complex and human (I know this sounds crazy, but bare with me) it makes the story feel more real. You get the good with the bad. Not everything is rainbow and sunshine and at the same time its not all doom and gloom. There are heroes and villains and sometimes those characters double down and stay that way, and some evolve and switch it up! You think to yourself "Oh I'm really not going to like this person." Then something happens to change your mind and something else may happen for you to change it back. NOTHING and NOONE is safe in the Obsidian Games. I'm so excited to see where the next book takes us!
ARC REVIEW: The Tower Has Fallen 🖤 Rating: ⭐⭐⭐.5 | Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
*Minor Spoilers*
Overall: • The Vibe: A gritty, high-stakes ride that kept me guessing. It’s incredibly rare that I can't accurately predict a plot, but this one kept me piecing things together until the very last page! I absolutely love this whole series!
• The Romance: Ash & Hayley’s dynamic developed so differently than I expected, but I loved it. Ash really sees her and shows up for her when no one else does.
• The Spice: We had to wait a bit for it, but once that specific scene kicked off? 🔥🔥🔥
• The Plot Connections: The tension between Bishop and Hayley from the first two books makes SO much more sense now! Loving the addition of Caleb to the team and seeing his dedication!
The Warnings / My Critiques: • ⚠️ The Ending: Blood pressure was sky-high! It ends on a brutal cliffhanger. Hayley is in total survival/protection mode for Ash, and now I’m mad I have to wait for the next book. But her choices make total sense.
• 📉 Trilogy Ranking: 3rd place for me. I wanted at least some immediate vengefulness from Ash (he is so trapped with Amelia, it’s so frustrating and hard to wrap your head around it). I also wanted more clarity on why and when Hayley became so unhinged in the first two books. Hoping to get that from the next one!
3.5 🌟 for me is a solid read! One I definitely recommend but want to prepare people for a little before going into it. I am highly anticipating the next book in this series and will be telling everyone who will listen about this indie author’s captivating characters!
I was given an Advanced Reader Copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review. 🤘🏻
Where do I even begin with The Tower Has Fallen? This is the third book I’ve read by EJ Whitehead, and I still can’t get enough. Also, I’m both grateful & proud to have been one of the alpha readers for this incredible story 🖤
If you haven’t yet read the Firefly Duet - Mark of Amara & Wrath of Amara - I highly recommend starting there first. This spin-off delivers the same intense, action-packed storytelling, but with even more emotional depth & heartache woven throughout.
The Tower Has Fallen follows Hayley’s journey leading up to her introduction in the Firefly Duet & what an emotional rollercoaster it is. With multiple POVs, a complicated family history, a toxic past relationship, newfound friendships through her work, a morally divided enemies-to-lovers dynamic unfolding, and a stalker lurking in the shadows, this book keeps you constantly questioning what’s really happening. Every time I thought I had things figured out, the next page (or two) proved me wrong.
One thing I’ve said before & will continue to say is this: EJ Whitehead has an incredible way of pulling readers into a story and making them feel every moment. I end up emotionally wrecked yet still come back for more. I honestly didn’t think I could feel any more disdain toward certain characters until I read this!
Between these pages, you’ll experience every emotion while exploring themes of friendship, betrayal, personal sacrifice, isolation, healing & romance - all wrapped up in a gripping dark romance narrative with plenty of spice.
Once again, the author shows genuine care for readers’ wellbeing by including a detailed trigger warning list beneath an enticing page title for those well versed in the world of dark romance. Absolute chef’s kiss (pardon the pun). It’s always appreciated when an author takes the time to ensure readers can approach heavier themes with awareness.
Overall, The Tower Has Fallen is an unrelenting, raw, and all-consuming read that dark romance fans will absolutely devour.
First of all I have to say that this book has given me a new favourite nickname for idiotic people... Twat waffle. It is now in my every day vocabulary on a daily basis😅
Now to the actual book... Wtf?!?! EJ Whitehead has done it again, this is the third book of the obsidian games series and I must say it is amazing!!
This book is a prequel to the first two books and follows some of the characters that you meet in the first two books and explains in more context why the characters are the way they are.
I would say this book is definitely more on the softer side of the dark romance genre, compared to the other two books and even so there are still three pages of trigger warnings that I would advise you read before starting the book.
This book will make you love characters and will almost make you hate characters, it really did make me dislike "Queen" (her code name) more than I already did from the other books.
Warning this book will make you cry on the very last page, I don't usually cry at books but I did with this one.
EJ Whitehead knows how to get all of your emotions out, she knows how to keep her readers engrossed and invested.
I can't wait to read more!!
I received an ARC copy of this book and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Wow. Just wow! This book is everything 🫶 I absolutely loved the mystery and the guessing who the shadow is, my mind changed so many times! Absolute rollercoaster of emotions throughout the book and so well written. Each book that this author creates, they just become more and more epic. Devoured this book and cannot wait for the next instalment so I can cry over fictional characters all over again
This book is incredible! The twists and turns were fantastic, my heart bled for Ash and Hayley throughout this book. I fell in love with them both in Wrath of Amara and I couldn’t wait to see their story
